Did you know that the average human's lung capacity is 6 litres? That means we should be able to take in the equivalent of 8 bottles of wine in a single inhale. 😱 Crazy, right? And yet most of us come nowhere close to that. This week I will be sharing tips and exercises to maximize your breath. But in order to make progress, we first need to know our starting point. If you've never stopped to notice your natural breathing patterns, try this easy exercise: . 1) find a comfortable position sitting, lying down on your back or standing. The key point here is to be relaxed. . 2) set a timer for 2-5 minutes. . 3) place one hand on your heart, one hand on your belly button. . 4) close your eyes and feel your body press into your hands as you breathe normally. Don't force your breath, just observe it. Try to notice where in the body you are breathing (chest, stomach or both?). . 5) optional: when the timer goes off, feel free to write down your observations to see if anything changes after this week. How are you breathing? Let me know in the comments!👇🏾
The magic happens in the routine, the small things you do every day. If you plant seeds everyday, eventually you'll have a garden 🌿 . Recently I noticed my practice getting really stagnant - I wasn't progressing any farther in poses, my sequences didn't feel as inspired, etc. And then I realized I couldn't remember the last time I practiced all by myself, without outside influence. It's been two weeks since I've made space to practice everyday and I can't even believe the progress that I've made! Small daily actions = big results. Don't overlook the small stuff!
I've been working like a busy bee lately and I finalllllly get to tell you all about it! Stay tuned tomorrow for an exciting announcement! Hint: it involves all of my favs: yoga, sunshine and you (yes, YOU!) 🙋🏾 Hope you all get to enjoy some sun today, it's a beauty day!
There's something really cleansing about being in nature. Fresh air, the sounds of life buzzing and a lack of technological bombardment = the perfect recipe for tuning in and resetting. Where is your favourite spot to unwind in nature? 🌳🌱🌿
