Happy Father's Day to this old man. He's taught me a lot, but his lessons on love and finding your joy in life (and fighting for it even when it's hard) are something that I will cherish forever. Thank you for having my back in life, Pops! I'm forever grateful for that, and I love you!!
Happy Juneteenth! Today we commemorate the day when the promise of freedom was enshrined in our Constitution, however the delayed acknowledgement of Black freedom. It's even more special to us here on the 3rd Coast because the delivery of the news to the Galveston/Houston area is what started this holiday. ⠀ The #Juneteenth has gained a bit more popularity this year, but this is the 1st of many steps with many more to go. We must address the root cause of generations of poverty and inequity & transform it into a future of prosperity. #buyblack
It’s still in place.” I actually might have done the praise hand emoji in real life when I heard my gyno say that at my annual appointment last November. I’m a few months away from year five with my Mirena implant and I’m happy I made the decision to get it. ⠀ Unfortunately, women’s bodies have been heavily policed, but topics like menstruation and contraception are still seen as taboo subjects. In 2020! I think that we need to be able to discuss topics like that with as much ease as we discuss the flu or getting our eyes dilated. That’s why I’ve been very vocal throughout the years about not only my experience with my Mirena implant and women’s health rights in general. So I'm talking about my experience with my #MirenaIUD implant on the blog today! Click the link in my bio to read more!
Guess what?! @msbeaut are back with another episode of @andallthatjazpod! We're diving into #BlackLivesMatter, #Juneteenth, Insecure (which we recorded prior to the finale on Sunday) and more! Click the link in my bio to check it out on your favorite podcasting platform! #podsincolor #podcast
Hey y'all, you alright? I know it's been heavy these past few weeks but I wanted to hop on and remind you that it's okay and ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to take care of yourselves. We're still in the middle of this COVID-19 pandemic and this fight against racism is a marathon, not a sprint. Don't feel obligated to be everywhere and do everything every day because you will burn out. ⠀ Thank you @unprocessedlifestyle for this dope tee that serves as a reminder that no is a full sentence. You can use it as easily as you decline a meeting invite with no comments...something I do frequently.
Missing the days when I could wear jumpsuits and bralettes on someone's patio. This picture was actually taken at Bar 5015 before their renovation, but according to the dress code they posted recently I wouldn't be allowed to enter in this outfit. Have y'all seen their dress code?
I've been tagged in a few posts by some phenomenal Black women in my life, and while I won't be sharing that long caption and quote I will share this one. ⠀ The voice of a Black woman should always be HERSELF ...No edits - no erasure - no pressure - no expectations - no additions - no intruders - #MaleboSephodi ⠀ I see some new faces around here and I want to welcome you and let you know that my voice will always be mine. So you're going to see me sharing posts about things I'm passionate about like music, traveling, women's rights (especially health), Black lives and how they matter and more. I can't in good conscience only show y'all the highlight reel. I have open and honest conversations in real life, and I'll continue to have open and honest conversations here. So welcome and thank you for making space for my #Blackvoice on your timeline. #BlackBlogger #blackgirlmagic #TexasBlackBlogger #HoustonBlackBlogger #Lifestyleblogger
🚨ACTION ALERT🚨 🗣️#SayHerName #BreonnaIsNotForgotten TODAY #BreonnaTaylor would have turned 27 years old. A birthday that family and friends would be joyously celebrating with her. Instead, they are heart-broken, (still) crying out for answers and justice in her senseless killing! On March 13th, the reckless and excessive actions of three Louisville police officers executing a no knock warrant on the WRONG home, ended her promising life. To date, NO CHARGES have been filed against the involved officers. Three months is too long to wait for justice! As a Birthday tribute to Breonna, I am sending a message to Kentucky Atty Gen Daniel Cameron & Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer demanding justice! JOIN ME: https://p2a.co/HcTMsHO
I cannot tell you how many days I've just been overwhelmed and just cried. How many days I've been frustrated for having to explain why Black Lives matter. How many days I wish other people would speak up and out against the injustice that's been going on for HUNDREDS OF YEARS. Well I don't know what suddenly sparked a change of heart in people, but I'm happy it happened. My inboxes have been flooded with messages similar to these and while I've responded to some, I don't have the mental or physical bandwidth to respond to them all. So I want to share this awesome resource tool by a phenomenal Black woman, @glographics. I've followed Glo for years and truly appreciated how she used her platform to not only make traveling more appealing and show accessible it is, but to speak truths to how it is traveling as a Black woman. She's used her voice and relationships with brands to make room at the table for other influencers of color. She's constantly dropping gems FOR FREE, and this is one of them. In her words Please ONLY use this if you've actually donated or spoke up. Empty words are useless and our Love Language right now is Acts of Service in this revolution. ✊🏾 #BlackLivesMatter #BlackEmotionsMatter
