Sometimes they make you laugh, sometimes they make you cry. Sometimes they make you laugh until you cry. I’ve got 2 things to share about my first born: Yesterday she proclaimed “I made a silent toot! Guess what that is. It’s when you toot and no one hears.” Then today she comes with a form that says she’s been nominated to be a buddy in the Special Olympics. My mamma heart has been warmed. #kidssaythedarndestthings #silentbutdeadly #bigheart #kinsleystarr
For those who have asked: stole the Herringbone painters tape design idea from Pinterest. Paint colors are SW Alabaster white and SW Tidewater cut by 50% to be lighter. It took me 2 days to take down the dinosaur border, spackle, sand, 2 white coats, tape the design, 2 blue coats. Pretty easy, just some measuring. #diy #painterstape #accentwall #biggirlroom #pinterest #herringbone
Surprised her with a new paint job when she got home from school. #herringboneaccentwall #kinsleystarr #diy #goodbyedinosaurborder
This is not to boast in any way, but rather encourage anyone who is feeling torn, who has too much on their plate and is spread too thin... doing too many things poorly, when you could just do less better. For photographers, it's easy when you're starting out to say yes to any job that comes your way. Then you find yourself doing all kinds of random jobs that you don't love. You're OK at them but not great at anything. You have to figure out your niche as you go. Think about it this way - Would you want to go to a doctor who did foot surgeries, facelifts, and fertility treatments... no thanks! But that's what I started to feel like. So in 2016, after 7 years of business, I made a bold business move. I said NO, a big NO to my main money maker and lots of little NOs to other odd jobs. Financially it was a scary decision but it was liberating for my home life and creative heart. Then we bought a house in 2017. Knowing that my income would take a big hit while our mortgage was going up was a bit nerve wrecking. But we had faith that it would work out eventually. BUT God just made it clear that I made the right decision when we went over our taxes... records showed that KWP was actually MORE profitable in 2017 than 2016, even though I removed my biggest source of income. Say what? I'm a bit in shock... Now I did not become a photographer to make money and that's still not my ultimate goal. It's what I truly love doing. And I know God could care less about money. I just took it as a sign that I chose the right path. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up and my story is not complete. So I'm giving God all of the glory here, as well as expressing my incredible gratitude for each and every client (new and old) who has chosen me to document their growing family. It's truly my joy and pleasure! I hope this inspires you to take inventory of your life. If there is something that is not bringing you joy or impacting your family negatively, prayerfully consider removing that thing from your life. I guarantee that you will be OK, if not better. God always provides.
Huge thank you to @ginnyophotography for coming over to capture our own Mommy & Me pictures that we will forever cherish. These babies will soon be too heavy to carry and too big for my lap so I wanted to savor these snuggles, kisses, and tickles while they last. Warning - more sneak peeks coming soon. #sorrynotsorry #mommyandme #familyportraits
