NEW BLOG: Did you know that your thyroid relies on several key nutrients to function properly? The thyroid gland is responsible for so many important functions in the body. From regulating our metabolism and energy, to our adrenal/stress hormones and sex hormones, it's one of the most critical parts of the endocrine system. Yet we often overlook thyroid health until we're faced with thyroid disorders.⠀ ⠀⠀ If you're faced with thyroid dysfunction, suspect that you may have a thyroid issue, or just want to make sure you’re getting adequate nutrition for proper thyroid function (and prevent future thyroid issues), this post is a must-read. In the post, I've included the key nutrients for thyroid function and the best sources of each, so you know exactly which foods support your thyroid - link in profile!⠀ ⠀⠀ Remember, food is information. It has the power to promote healing (or contribute to disease), so we might as well choose wisely...our health depends on it!
Have you heard?! Coconut Vinegar is the new Apple Cider Vinegar! If you're tired of ACV, you may want to give coconut vinegar a try. It's made from coconut sap, which is high in vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes. Like other vinegars, it contains probiotic bacteria essential for #guthealth! It's slightly sweeter than ACV and perfect for adding to water or tea to eliminate cravings, for cooking, using in a marinade, or mixing into homemade salad dressings (just don't take it by itself).⠀ ⠀⠀ Speaking of salad dressings, have you downloaded my free Salad Dressing Wallet Guide? 🥗📩 It includes what to look for if you're buying store-bought salad dressings (+ the best brands) AND how to make your own at home. Click the link in my bio to download + print your free guide.⠀ ⠀⠀ Have you tried coconut vinegar?
Summer is for loading up your plate with colorful nutrients! ☀️ On my plate: Brown rice pasta from @jovialfoods (gluten-free), sautéed onions and garlic with broccoli from the farmer's market, cherry tomatoes, basil, bell pepper, and scallions- all tossed in ghee! Delicious & nutritious 👌🏼 Hope you are having a relaxing weekend ✌🏼
Happy #InternationalYogaDay (and first official day of Summer - 2 of my favorite things) If you're new here, welcome!! 👋🏼 Since I'm seeing so many new faces around here, I thought I'd tell you a bit about myself and hopefully get to know you better too! To me, Instagram is all about community, so I can't wait to learn more about you 🤗 ⠀⠀ I live in Louisville KY 🐎 (not the most health conscious place to live, but we do have a few things going for us!) I haven't always been into health - it wasn't until I learned to view my symptoms as signals that I started to have an entirely different perspective on health! 💫 My educational background includes Public Health, Functional Medicine, and Nutrition (blending these 3 fields together has given me a unique outlook on the medical & health community). I'm Type A and an introvert, who actually enjoys reading medical journals and health textbooks 🤓 (what can I say, health fascinates me!) Oh, and inversions (headstands and handstands) 🙃🤸🏻♀️are my *favorite* way to relieve stress & tension (talk about instant relief!)⠀ ⠀⠀ Even though it may seem like it, my health journey hasn't always been simple and stress-free! So my goal is to help women restore whole body wellness by living healthfully - withOUT the stress and overwhelm that are often part of this journey. Without rules, restrictions, shame, guilt, dogma, or judgment. 🙅🏻 All of these take the joy out of the journey. Each and every one of us (yes you!) are on this journey together, even though our journeys might look different. As soon as we stop comparing ourselves to others and start sharing in our unique struggles and successes, transformation begins! ✨ (I'm talking to myself here too!)⠀ ⠀⠀ Enough about me, I'd love to get to know you better! Where are you from? Tell me a fun fact about you!👇🏼⠀ ⠀
Applying this to your life changes everything! It doesn't have to be an overnight transition, just start today by eating more real food, rather than products pretending to be food. #functionalmedicine #foodismedicine #eatrealfood
Water Fluoridation: once thought to be a great public health achievement... Fluoride is now known to be a developmental neurotoxin (interfering with normal brain development in utero and in children) and an endocrine disruptor (specifically interfering with thyroid function). In fact, patients in fluoridated areas are twice as likely to have hypothyroidism.⠀ ⠀⠀ Here are a few facts from the must-watch film on fluoride (see below)⠀ ⠀⠀ The drug we purposefully added to water to prevent dental decay, has now wreaked havoc on many areas of health we never imagined AND has led to over 22 million children in the US with dental fluorosis (discoloration in teeth from excess fluoride)⠀ ⠀⠀ Fluoride was actually used to enrich uranium in the development of the atomic bomb during WW2. This reminds me of the fact that pesticides (as we know them) didn't exist before WW2 and were used as a weapon against enemy crops (more info on that in the future).⠀ ⠀⠀ What form of fluoride is added to our water supply? Hexafluorosilicic acid, an industrial waste byproduct which contains trace amounts of neurotoxins (arsenic, lead, etc)⠀ ⠀⠀ One of the primary arguments for fluoride is that it couldn't possibly be harmful in small doses, but experts have determined that even small doses at specific times in a child's development have lifelong negative consequences. (It also crosses the placenta) One study showed that children are being massively overdosed, some infants receiving 100X more fluoride than the safe dose.⠀ ⠀⠀ It's easy to assume that substances allowed in our water supply must be safe but I encourage you to do your own research and make an informed decision. You have a right to know & decide what you put into your body!⠀ ⠀⠀ Bottled water often contains fluoride too, so don't be fooled into thinking it is pure.⠀ ⠀⠀ Ordinary filters do not remove fluoride, which is one of the reasons I use Berkey filters (because they offer fluoride filters). I've linked my blog post on this topic in my profile!⠀ ⠀⠀ Click the link in my profile to watch this 20-minute film about fluoride. No matter how busy you are, you owe it to yourself and your family to watch this eye-opening film.

Pro tip: Add collagen peptides when baking cookies, muffins, pancakes, etc! It's a super simple way to add a bit of health-boosting protein. I use @vitalproteins and they dissolve completely without changing the texture.👌🏼These lemon chia seed blueberry muffins are gluten free, dairy free, refined-sugar free and so tasty! 🍋😋 Recipe from @nutiva.⠀ ⠀⠀ Have you ever added collagen peptides when baking?⠀ ⠀⠀ Click the link in my profile to find out the surprising benefits of collagen protein!
