Hey, Hey! It's me, Melissa here and I've been thinking a lot about doors. Not just these beautiful doors behind me while standing on a gorgeous street in France, but the doors we open or close inside of us. The doors that either open to reveal ourselves and make an entrance or doors that close to hide us off from the world. . It's interesting how one's willingness to be seen affects the outcome of a portrait in photography. So often my clients tell me that they don't like to have their photo taken, they list what parts they don't like about themselves and everything they want to change about their appearance. They just want to get it over with as quickly as possible and spend the least amount of time they can in front of the camera. Many people believe that it is the photographer that has all the power to make someone look like themselves and make them look good. . But this is simply not true. I can't make anyone look different than they are. I can't change anything about them or make someone show me their true selves in front of the camera. Only my subject can stand before me and show me their true selves inside & out. . I love this quote from Annie Liebovitz: There's this idea in portraiture that it's the photographer's job to set the subject at ease. I don't believe that. All the work I've ever done, the ideas emanate from that person (subject). Stand over here, and present yourself. We are so complicated as human beings, there are so many parts to us. That's where the ideas come from. Even in the most setup situation I believe there is something really going on. . I can put my subjects at ease, I can spend more time with them so they're comfortable, I can create a warm environment where someone feels safe. But in the end it's up to them to open themselves up to allow the camera (and audience) to see what's really inside. . So don't be afraid. Present yourself. Show your truth. Show the world what's inside your heart & soul. . Because we don't have time to waste pretending to be anyone else than who we truly are. . And in the end, not only should a portrait show someone's outward appearance...but also capture a glimpse of their soul.
Love. It's the only way. ❤🌊⛵ . . . . . #quote #quotesoftheday #lovepoems #lovequote #lovequotes #sailyouroceans #loveyourself
