That sweet little smirk!
I was out of town most of the week with almost no internet access. It was a nice break & a great visit with my dad, but I'm excited to be home & share some birthy beauty with you today! I love how she is reaching down to bring her precious boy to her. Every birth is beautiful, but an empowering birth center waterbirth to welcome a rainbow baby... there wasn't a dry eye in the room when this little man came earthside! @birthbecomesher @birthofamama @birthwithoutfear @empoweredbirthproject @sabirthcenter

Birth is both beautiful and unpredictable. This momma was just shy of 37 weeks & planning a birth center birth. She just needed to make it to midnight. At 3 that afternoon at her prenatal she'd been about 3cm dilated. Since she was a first time mom everyone was sure there was plenty of time. They figured they'd head to the birth center in the wee hours of the morning for baby to arrive sometime the next day. Dad called me to see if I could come do some early labor stuff, documenting them getting things ready to head to the birth center. The plan was that I'd shoot for an hour or so & head home so I could & return to follow them to the birth center sometime after midnight. I arrived just before 7PM & watched her power through a few contractions as her hubby loaded the truck and installed the carseat. I told her I wasn't sure baby was going to wait for midnight, and I was pretty sure I wouldn't be leaving either. As it turned out, I shot this image just a few hours later of dad on the phone with 9-11. I had a chux pad with me in my birth bag so I grabbed it and threw it under momma just in case. Labor was progressing quickly and we had reached a point that she didn't think she would be able to get into the truck to head to the birth center even if they did manage to make it to midnight. A 10 min ride in the ambulance to the nearest hospital (I followed in the truck with dad) and baby arrived just 4 min shy of midnight! Dad barely made it into the delivery room before she was born! Sadly because momma arrived via ambulance it was treated as an emergency situation and I was not allowed into the delivery room... so I waited in the family area with grandma & big sister. While I didn't get to be there for **THE** moment of birth, they had an amazing birth story and it was an honor to be able to help them tell it!
My heart! Such a sweet little rainbow after their storm.
From all of us at Mamarazzi Photography, Merry Christmas!!
Sweet little guy.
