Recycled flower bouquets are new on the blog! . I’ve had big plans for getting our recycled art on for #getcreativewith all week, but summer has had other plans so far and just in case I can’t get my little fish out of her backyard pool again today (pretty likely 🤪😎), I’m bringing back an oldie but super goodie! . If you’ve got a spare egg carton and some paint, you’ve probably got everything you need to make some pretty 3-D flower art of your own 😁 Just click the link in my bio for the full instructions! . Happy weekend!! 😘💕😁☀️
Now that the rainbow oats are all mixed up, I think they are actually even prettier! Don’t they look like Fruity Pebbles? 💕🌈😁🤤 . Yesterday, I threw together a quick ABC hunt for Kinley with our new sensory cereal treasure and her old @melissaanddougtoys wooden lowercase letters. I set the timer for 4 minutes and she had to dig through and find all the letters, put them in order and hit the imaginary buzzer before the time ran out. (That kid will do anything with joy if it involves a time limit and a buzzer, pretty sure it’s thanks to her obsession with American Ninja Warrior 😎😂) . Would you believe she requested to play this again on the way home from our park play date? Letter game requests in summer?! 😱 I’d say this one’s a winner! 🙌🏼✨
K and I tried out a @picklebums -inspired straw sculpture today and it was every bit as fun as it looked on Pinterest! . Kinley mostly just wanted to chop straws and watch them fly around the schoolroom (#gigglefest ✂️🤪) so we teamworked this little straw city — she was on scissor duty and I wielded the hot glue gun 👩🏻🙌🏼👧🏻 . Didn’t it turn out cool? Something about the texture and straw colors makes my old eyeballs all hearty! 😍😍 . Did you do any rad/easy arting today? Holler and we will come check it out! We are all about the easy these summer days 😎☀️😉 Happy Wednesday!
The RainbOats are ready!! 💕🌈 . I’ve dyed beans and noodles and rice and sand, but until yesterday I had never tried dyeing oatmeal and the results are awesome! These gorgeous things have been popping up all over the ‘Gram but when I saw @the_paige_diaries’ gorgeous bin the other day, I finally put oats on the grocery list — they’re just so pretty!! 😍😍 . Wanna make some? 1️⃣ For each color, measure one cup of oats into a baggie. 2️⃣ Squirt liquid watercolors or food coloring on top. 3️⃣ Shake them up and add more color if you need to. 4️⃣ Dump on a paper towel lined cookie sheet to dry (approximately 1 hour in the sunshine ☀️😁) . I have this terrible thing that I think I know how to do everything art-related without reading instructions 🤦🏻♀️🤪 so I’m sure there are better ways to dye oats than my random method because my way took a TONNNNN of liquid watercolors. Those little oats are color sponges, man! I did sprinkle in maybe a 1/2 tsp of cold water in each baggie too to help the color spread around a little bit but I was afraid adding too much would make them all slimy and gross. Maybe I should’ve tried alcohol? 🤔🤷🏻♀️ Whatever...it worked out! Kinley is happily digging in those beautiful grains as we speak ☺️ . Have you tried making these things before? Do you have a better method? 🤞🏼😁
Sticky art wall hangings inspired by the ever-amazing @100daysofartbar 💕🌈 . We haven’t played along with our fave art prompt account in wayyy too long, and today when I headed over to find a quick and easy one to try before our thousand Monday errands it was nearly impossible to pick just ONE 😍😍 but after much deliberation, we ended up with sticky collages and they were a big old giant hit! . I laid out: ▫️old photo paper art ▫️cupcake wrappers | @ikeausa ▫️paper buttons (my mom has a super cool paper punch that makes these things 😍😍) ▫️hearts punched from paint chips ▫️scissors ▫️self-sealing laminating pouches | @scotchproducts & Kinley and I spent the next twenty minutes artfully arranging all of the goodies. Aren’t they pretty? 😍 . I ended up hot-gluing cardboard strips decorated with washi tape to the tops of our sticky masterpieces so they are all ready to hang up on Kinley’s brand-new playroom art gallery wall (we ran out of schoolroom gallery wall space! 🤪😂🙌🏼) . Thanks for another super fun one, Bar!! 😘💕
Ginormous canvas number one is COMPLETE, y’all! 🙌🏼😁 . Kinley and I settled on DANCE painting for this one and it couldn’t have been a bigger hit! I was just gonna put on some background music for her like usual, but it occurred to me while we were out in our fave backyard art spot that it might be fun to change the style of music for each of the colors of the rainbow! . We went with: ▫️red: 80’s ❤️ ▫️pink: country 💕 ▫️orange: EDM 🧡 ▫️yellow: reggae 💛 ▫️green: Latin pop 💚 ▫️blue: 60s French pop 💙 ▫️purple: Gwen Stefani/Katy Perry 💜 (Kinley’s pick! 😎😍😂) . It was so fun to see just how much the music effected her style! EDM had her painting like a robot and shaking her tail feather, reggae had her laying down on her mat to paint 😎🏝, French pop was a splatterfest, but I think both of us loved her “Hollaback Girl” style the most 😎💃🏻😂 (if you wanna see for yourself, there’s a little vid for ya in my stories today 😉🙌🏼) . This whole entire process was a two day crazy messy, big gigantic BLAST! As a matter of fact, I think we might try it again but together this time and maybe on an even bigger canvas like a drop cloth or something! 😍👯♀️😍 . I can’t wait to hang this incredible Kin masterpiece in the playroom!! What do you think? Would you give dance painting a try?!
Stuff to climb, experiments to try, gadgets to build, beautiful interactive art everywhere you look and all the water you can imagine to splash around in — the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is PACKED with awesomeness!! . I was trying to round up some pics to share with ya, but we were having so much fun I didn’t take very many 🤪😂 (I DID however take 45 pictures of those gorgeous pink and orange streamers hanging from the art room’s ceiling 😱😍🤓😂) Kinley loved visiting Piggie and Gerald in the Mo Willem’s exhibit and climbing in the giant maze, but her ultimate favorite part was definitely the incredible water room! I’ll throw the videos of her top fave parts from my stories yesterday in my highlights in case you missed them while you are adding this amazing gem of a museum to your must-visit bookmark folder 😉😍 . Thanks for a fabulous visit, @pghkids!! . . . #raisingkinley #childrensmuseum #mustvisit
When your feet look this pretty, the canvas has gotta be good right?! . If you want a sneak peek of this #workinprogress head to my stories or stay tuned til tomorrow for the big musical masterpiece reveal! 😁🤩🎶🎨 . . . #raisingkinley #messyart
Can you spot the critter!? 😍😁 . Raccoons generally freak me out, but this guy’s the exception! Isn’t he incredible?! Rainbow AND recycled for crying out loud 💕🌈♻️ This is just a very small taste of all the awesome that’s going on at the Pittsburgh treasure trove that is @creative_reuse! . Today was the first day of our PA adventure and this place was first on my list. The Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse is an entire thrift store filled with donated ART SUPPLIES 🖌🎨 They’ve got bins full of everything you can dream of — test tubes and wooden spools, old slides and buttons, fabric, wooden scraps, PHOTO PAPER 😉😉($1 per pound!)...EVERYTHING! If you’re ever in this amazing city, you’ve gotta check it out 😍 . Big giant thanks to Lisa @playagainreads for the hot tip on this amazing spot! 😘🙌🏼 . Tomorrow is the big Children’s Museum trip & Kin can’t sleep — she’s too excited to meet Piggie and Gerald 😁🤩🐷🐘💕 We love you, Pittsburgh!! 😁😍 . . #raisingkinley #artmatters #recycledart
If you need us, we’ll be outside swinging, swimming, and sweating! 🤪😂 HAPPY FOURTH, Y’ALL!! 😁💕🇺🇸🎉💥
Happy (almost) 4th, my fellow Americans!! 💕🇺🇸😁🎉💥 . We were totally inspired by @tishteach and her beautiful patriotic photo paper art! Photo paper + watercolors + USA = YES, please 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️😂 . Kinley and I used white oil pastels and our trusty @blickartmaterials liquid watercolors to make red, white and blue fireworks and flags and pretty designs and we are now officially ready for our first of two 2018 fireworks displays tonight! 😁🙌🏼 . Do YOU have any big plans for the 4th? 🇺🇸💥🎉💕
Picking faves was ridiculously hard for this #tagfromtheheart cardboard challenge you guys! I switched my grid at least six times before settling on my final gorgeous amazing rainbowtastic NINE!! 🌈🤩💕 . Slide for a closer look at the awesomeness and make sure you head over and show these creators some love if you find something that makes you go 😱😍 too! . I chose: ▫️ @cardboardschoolhouse who invented a genius (& beautiful) no-hands twist on the peaceful protest sign ☮️ ▫️ @thekidsbookhunter who broke out the cardboard to pimp their fishie’s tank 😎 ▫️ @learning_with_mali_and_v because they used toilet paper rolls to make 3-D art in a way I’ve never seen before 💕 ▫️ @theartgardenblog‘s amazing sparkly nature collages — texture + colors = 😍😍😍😍😍😍 for dayz ▫️ @bookbloom who made a BOOKSTORE, y’all. A flipping bookstore! AMAZING!! 📚 ▫️ @creatingcreatives ‘cause those gorgeous rainbow pops are making me drool over here 🤤 ▫️ @follow_the_child_ who made the prettiest egg carton wreath I’ve ever laid eyes on! #thosecolorstho 🌈 ▫️ @playhouseartla and their kiddo helpers who whipped up one seriously amazing and way-too-cute candy dispenser 🤩 ▫️ @tala_and_mommy because they made the world’s most rainbow-y fabulous simply irresistible pretend ice cream shop, & y’all know how I feel about rainbows 🤪🍦 . Thank you so much to everyone who participated this week! I spent the last seven days grinning at my phone and saying “oh you have to see THIS!” to Kinley and the hubster on repeat 😂🙌🏼 You guys and your imaginations 🤯🤩 I really needed a grid of 100 to fit all of my faves. Thank you, thank you!! . And thank you, too, a bazillion times over to Anya @montessorifromtheheart for inviting me to host her challenge baby, @tagfromtheheart. It’s been one rad week — YAY CARDBOARD!! 🙌🏼😁💕📦
Well my fabulous instabuddies, today is the last day to show Anya and I your amazing cardboard creations before we pick & feature our faves, so I thought I’d share one last super simple throwback inspiration project: packing tape ring collage bracelets ✨😁 . Kinley and I made these beauts over a year ago and they are still a dress-up staple. Feathers, sequins, unicorn and holographic heart stickers — these things have got it all! . It doesn’t have to be massive or complicated to be totally awesome! To be featured tomorrow, tag ALL the cardboard things #tagfromtheheart 💕📦😁 and make sure you are following: ▫️ @tagfromtheheart ▫️ @montessorifromtheheart ▫️ & us 🤓😁 . Happy creating and happy Saturday, y’all 😘💕 . . . #raisingkinley #cardboard
It’s #bookishplay Friday again, y’all!! This week we chose to play with Petra, an ordinary rock with an extraordinary imagination. . In her book, Petra imagines herself to be lots of things like a mountain, an egg, and an island but it’s the thing she is last that we love the most — a painted craft rock elephant! . We took some of our Lake Michigan treasure rocks to Grammy’s house yesterday and we broke out the paint and let our own imaginations run wild. Kinley made a tiger body and an Earth rock, I made a rainbow and a lion and Grammy made a happy flower and an absolutely perfect elephant Petra! . If you like this, a whole bunch of my book-loving buddies are going #beyondthebook today too! @tinkerlab #artstartchallenge Day 3: CHALK ART . I’ve seen so many amazing, elaborate cardboard creations from all over the ‘Gram since our #tagfromtheheart week kicked off on Monday, but if you wanna get in on the action you don’t HAVE to go big! You could even just color on @chipotle kid’s meal lids with chalk pastels 😉😉 . I’ve been hoarding these babies for months and yesterday’s invitation to play with chalk pastels from Rachelle was the perfect opportunity to bust them out! This was a late night jammies-on creative sesh and the perfect way to calm down before bed — although Kinley turned so smurf-ish she almost had to have a second bath 🤪😂 . I can’t wait to hang these recycled creations up on the new playroom gallery wall OR to see more of your amazing cardboard inspo popping up in my feed! If you wanna get featured on Sunday, make sure you’re: ▪️tagging all the cardboard things with #tagfromtheheart ▪️following @tagfromtheheart @montessorifromtheheart & us 😁 . . . #recycledart #raisingkinley
@tinkerlab #artstartchallenge Day Two: ABSORBANT ART . I went to bed thinking about what kind of a new twist we could put on this prompt and woke up thinking COTTON BALLS!! We only used three things to make these gorgeous prints — cotton balls (obvi), photo paper, and @discountschoolsupply liquid watercolors. Don’t they look like some kind of crazy animal print? 😍😍 . I popped all the steps from our whole ArtStart creation sesh in my instastories highlights for ya just in case you wanna give it a go or see the extra fun ways K found to art with her rainbowy cotton balls! (It’s in the #ArtStart bubble 😁💕🌈) . . . #raisingkinley #kidsactivities
