Day 23 of the #abnewyearstashchallenge is nail polish. I fully cop to having way too much polish 🤦🏽♀️ It was a thing back in HS and college. Even if I couldn’t treat myself to a new pair of jeans or a lipstick from Sephora, I could totally snag myself a new bottle of polish while grocery shopping 💅🏽 ____ I go through phases with polish colors. Lately, I’ve been loving soft pinks (surprise, surprise) and all things sparkly! The polish that I’ve been wearing non-stop over the past month is @smithandcult’s gay ponies dancing in the snow (@dermstore PR gift.) I’ve redone my nails about once a week since Christmas, and every time I use this same polish 😂 It has a jelly pink base and silver glitter. It looks like something a 5-year-old ballerina would pick out and I love it 🙆🏽♀️ My other fav in the pink + sparkly category is @essiepolish all tied up! Unfortunately, it’s a discontinued shade 😭 ____ Swipe to see around 1/4-ish of my stash. I don't really have much brand loyalty and like both drugstore polishes and luxury brands. If I had to pick a star brand it would be @essiepolish. I love the opacity in most of their polishes, how well they wear, how easy they are to apply, and how long the bottles last. I have some polishes that are around 10 years old 🙈 These days I don't buy much polish unless something unique catches my eye. Lately, I've been eying the bright yellow polish from the @chanel.beauty spring summer collection 🤔
Confession: this photo is actually from December but I never posted it 🙈 I'm finally getting around to trying the @mynuface trinity facial toner (PR gift) + this photo matches the current feel of my feed, so here we are 😎 ____ Even though I love skincare, I'm pretty chill about the state of my skin. I have acne scars and visibly large pores and am ready to accept wrinkles whenever I start getting them. But just as I'm working to fade my scars, I'm also looking towards preventative measures to delay sagging skin and age spots and all other signs of a well-lived life. Hydration + sunscreen are key, but since I got those on lockdown I'm ready to take it things to the next level 🙆🏽♀️ ____ This device uses microcurrents to help improve facial contour, skintone, and fine lines + wrinkles. If you think about it on the most basic level, you're essentially electrocuting your face 😂 (I have had a microcurrent facial before and I honestly didn't feel anything, but the mental image is amusing. Or at least it's amusing to me 😅) ____ Personally, I've heard a lot of positive reviews on the nuface so I have high hopes! Especially since it's quite a pricey device (albeit much cheaper than getting regular microcurrent treatments.) I was just reading a piece on microcurrent facials last night on @intothegloss and apparently, they have the potential to cure a whole host of skincare issues- including acne and scarring! The trick is to use it consistently. So I'll definitely be sharing an update somewhere down the road. If you've used a microcurrent device or have gotten a microcurrent facial I'd love to hear your thoughts on the technique!
Day 22 of the #abnewyearstashchallenge and I'm still pulling through... just barely. Today's theme is hand and foot care, another area I am admittedly lazy in. But lately, I've been better! I did have a second photo I was going to put in a slideshow-- it had my entire stash of hand creams, 1 foot cream, the aloe socks + gloves I bought at the beginning of the month, and the few hand + foot masks I have. But unsurprisingly the upload keeps failing 😒 _____ The hand cream I've been reaching for the most lately has been the @lanolips rose hand cream (PR gift.) And it's totally because it's pink and smells like roses 🌹 It's moisturizing without making my hands greasy. Just the way I like it 👌 _____ If my hands are super dry or cracking I like using @weleda_usa skinfood or @farmacybeauty honey savior! Both are very rich and nourishing, but they also make my hands slippery for a while. Therefore I'll usually use them before bed. I also like using them on my elbows and knees. _____ For foot cream, I only have one-- it's the @burtsbees peppermint foot cream. It has a tingly mint smell (don't ask me how a scent can be tingly; it just is.) It's been my feet savior of the month. I've been wearing aloe socks + this foot cream every night and it's healed my cracked heels sooo much. I'll definitely be following up with a foot peel before sandal weather is here. A note on the aloe socks: I generally don't like the feeling of wearing socks with lotion, but with these socks somehow I'm okay with it. I think it's because they're really soft and have a sort of cooling sensation 🤔
I wasn’t planning on publishing this post, but when I sat down to blog on Saturday it word-vomited out. It’s basically a summation of why I no longer choose to support Tarte 🙅🏽♀️ It’ll also be helpful so that the next time calls me a sensitive snowflake I can point them in the right direction to see proof of tarte’s repeated racist behavior 💁🏽♀️
I'm losing steam for the #abnewyearstashchallenge but I want to keep it up while I can. It's day 21 and even though I wasn't crazy about this photo... I couldn't give up my streak 😅 ______ Today's theme is haircare treatments + styling products. I consider myself to be very low maintenance when it comes to hair... And I think I'm low maintenance thanks to my generous stash of products 🤷🏽♀️ Most days I'll let my hair air-dry naturally and let it do its thang. Maybe 2 or 3x a month I'll blow dry, straighten, or curl it. Basically, as I get older, I get lazier about my hair 😂 ______ After washing my hair my routine out of the shower usually goes something like this: leave-in conditioner, oil, curly/ wavy hair styling product. And I like having options for each step! Of course, I still have my favorites 🙆🏽♀️ For reference my hair has a medium density, is dry at the ends + oily at the roots, and is wavy/ curly depending on how I dry it. ______ 💞 For leave-in conditioner, @oudiad moisture lock and @phytousa phyto 9 are my favs-- both so moisturizing but not sticky or heavy. 💞 For hair oils my all-time favorite is the @bumbleandbumble invisible oil with @verbproducts ghost oil coming in at a close second. Both help prevent split ends without making me look like a drowned rat. Also a little goes a long way with both formulas. 💞 For styling products... I gotta lot of favorites. For winter I like something lightweight that will support the natural shape of my curls. The @theouai's curly jelly (PR gift) gives me soft but define curls. If I use too much it can make things crunchy. For wavier, textured hair I like using @playa's endless summer spray (PR gift). It gives me the look I want without making my hair too dry or gritty. Both the ouai and playa products are light enough that I can easily run my fingers through my hair or style my hair the day after. 💞 In the summer I prefer something drier and with more hold. My favorites are the @oribe après beach wave & shine spray as well as the @bumbleandbumble surf spray (also the foam version!) All 3 give me beachy waves that can survive the humidity of an east coast summer!
I realized I have enough @glossier products to write a part two review on the brand. But because solution is brand spankin’ new and I promised to share my thoughts on it, here’s my mini review. I was gifted this from the brand before it came out so I’ve had about a month and a half to use it 🙆🏽♀️ ____ What is it? It’s marketed as a liquid exfoliant buuuut I’m gonna call it what it is— an exfoliating toner. Let’s call a spade a spade. ____ Active ingredients? Here’s where things get a little fuzzy. On the bottle it says it’s a 10% AHA, PHA, & BHA solution. But on the label it only lists 0.5% salicylic acid (aka the BHA.) The percentages of lactic acid, glycolic acid, and gluconolactone are all unlisted. I do wish they disclosed the %s but it’s not a deal breaker for me. At least we know the overall percentage 🤷🏽♀️ ____ Results? The first week or so of use it did sting my skin a bit, but with regular use that waned. I tried amping up my use to 2x a day but that was too drying for me. With consistent daily use I found that it did help keep my skin smooth! Usually when Aunt Flo visits I breakout all over my cheeks. But with this, it reduced it to a mere 2 or 3 zits. It did brighten my skin some, but not as much as I would have liked (it does contain niacinamide.) ____ Is it worth it? Overall I would say yes. It has cute packaging, nice ingredients, and isn’t exorbitantly priced. It’s unique in that it offers a blend of PHA, AHA, and BHA. On the other hand, result wise it was only marginally more effective than @pixibeauty’s glow tonic and the ordinary’s 7% glycolic acid toner. It is a lot less drying though. ____ I should note, personally I prefer exfoliating serums over exfoliating toners as they get the job done a lot more quickly. Gimme @sundayriley good genes or @drunkelephantskincare TLC over a toner any day of the week. Of course those are also much more expensive and potentially harsher/ more drying on the skin. So I guess it comes down to your budget, what your skin can handle, and how fast you want results!
Day 20 of the #abnewyearstashchallenge is body lotion. I’m really, really, really bad at remembering to wear body lotion. And sometimes even when I do remember I’m too lazy to actually apply it 🙈 I’ll occasionally buy a new tube or bottle to motivate myself but forget about it within a few days 🤦🏽♀️ Last night I actually used one because I had to because it was in this shot of my nightly routine 😂 The rest of my stash is in my stories! _____ Last night’s routine: ✨ @tatcha cleansing oil ✨ @indie_lee rosehip cleanser (@dermstore PR gift) ✨ @mariobadescu rosewater mist ✨ @belifusa true tincture essence (@altheakorea PR gift) ✨ oolu gold + ginseng mist ✨ @joshrosebrook hydrating accelerator (@thedetoxmarket PR gift) ✨ @leegeehaam_global hyal b toner (PR gift) ✨ @saturday_skin lotion ✨ @olivarrier_usa squalane oil ✨ @soroci.usa calming cream (@takegoodcare.ca PR gift) ✨ @herbivorebotanicals Phoenix oil ✨ @frank_bod body cream (PR gift)
Take your vitamins, boys & girls ______ I started taking the @humnutrition red carpet vitamins (PR gift) at the beginning of the month and I wasn’t sure what to expect 🤔 On one hand I grew up eating my daily multivitamins thanks to my parents + pediatrician. On the other hand, the Instagram spam of hair gummies and detox teas and other similar BS has made me wary of any sort of consumable beauty product. But a browse through their site led me to believe their products are based on science and not trends. These pills, in particular, contain gamma and alpha-linoleic acid which have been shown to improve overall skin health. @chemist.confessions recently did a post about the potential benefits of said oils— one of them being less acne! ______ I’d like to think the pills have made my skin clearer and my hair stronger, but maybe I’m just seeing things I want to see. I’m going to have to use them longer to see if they’re really affecting my skin and hair or not 🤨 ______ Thankfully they come in gel caplets cause those are the only type of pills I can swallow 🙈 ______ $25 for a one month supply isn’t cheap but I’ll be reordering them from @dermstore so at least I’ll get 20% off (the current code is ‘WINTER’)
Bits from last nights bath + my stash for day 19 of the #abnewyearstashchallenge! I can’t believe it’s already the 19th 🙈 I’m not sure if I’m going to finish up the challenge as I’m not too keen on posting my makeup stash 🤷🏽♀️ _____ Today's theme is bathing extras. In the summer I don't take baths all that often, but come winter I'll seize any opportunity to hop into the tub! Here's my stash of bathing extras (minus the few bath bombs/ bubble bars not pictured): 🛀 @herbivorebotanicals coconut milk bath soak 🛀 @moltonbrownusa rhubarb and rose bath and shower gel (PR gift): While this could technically be used as a shower gel, I think that's a waste of this beauty. I save it for when I'm in the bath! This smells amazing and makes soo many bubbles! A little really goes a long way. 🛀 @collosolofficiel eau de lait: I dropped a capful of this into my bath last night. I don't think it really did anything buuut that may be because my bath already smelled delish thanks to the Molton Brown gel _____ Other shit pictured: @indie_lee rosehip cleanser (@dermstore PR gift) @firstaidbeauty ginger + turmeric jelly mask (PR gift) @clarinsusa body oil (PR gift) @paparecipe_official rose gold honey mask (@mikaela.beauty PR gift)
