Guess how many litres of olive oil they say the average Cretan consumes annually? 34KG!! 😱 I didn't believe this, until sitting in the restaurants and watching people pour 1/4 of a bottle over their salad, fish and pasta. ⠀ ⠀ So, for today's #nutritiontip Tuesday, I'm talking olive oil. It's one of the healthiest fats out there, as it's rich in monounsaturated fats, particularly oleic acid which is shown to be anti-inflammatory. ⠀ ⠀ It's also high in antioxidants, and is thought to protect against heart disease, arthritis, cancer and Type II diabetes. Personally, I notice a difference in my skin from olive + olive oil consumption.⠀ ⠀ Remember, it's not fat that makes you fat; it's sugar! So don't be afraid to 'glug' some olive oil on to your next salad! Just make sure you get the cold pressed, extra virgin!
