And here it is! The first of our new Barrel Series, Major Oak Barrel Aged Sour “Named after the famous tree that Robin Hood is said to have taken shelter inside, “Major Oak” is a massive oak tree which stands in the heart of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, England. Aged for 10 months in Rioja Barrels, Major Oak exhibits the classic barnyard flavour of Brett, with pineapple-like tartness and acidity, finishing with a dry hint of oak and dark stone fruit.” This special brew can be found here at the brewery, or online for a limited time!
As one of Ontario’s original craft breweries, Black Oak Brewing Company was established in 1999, and was part of the initial movement that helped revolutionize the craft beer industry. It was the dream of our owner Ken Woods to open up a craft brewery that focused on quality and innovation with respect to the original beer styles and recipes brewed from around the world. We’re proud to say that we have held strong to our roots and continue to brew top quality, award winning beer- hence our slogan, “KNOW YOUR ROOTS.” One of the first styles of beer that Black Oak brewed was our signature Pale Ale. Today, we continue to brew this multi-award winning beer as one of our year round favorites. The oak tree on the packaging of this ale actually represents Ken’s childhood tree on his family’s property growing up. With such a strong connection to that brand, and the name of the company, this oak tree continued to inspire the theme for our Barrel Series... Our first edition to the series is our “Major Oak” Barrel Aged Sour. Continuing with this theme, our next barrel aged brews in this series are also inspired by other legendary trees from both history and literature. From Lord of the Rings “Middle Earth” to the “Land of Oz”, we visit some of our favorite legends and folklore throughout this delicious series. We welcome you to share the experience with us one barrel at a time, as part of the Black Oak family. Cheers to quality craft, and knowing your roots.
