A huge thank you to @starrspangledplanner for her story today and for this post I’m reposting. If you haven’t seen it yet, go check her story out. It does such a good job of answering the question, “Where do I begin?” in explaining systemic racism. Channeling my discomfort, my anger, my frustration, and my sadness into these actionable steps. Discomfort is productive. I’m pledging to lean into it, to read, to listen, and then leverage my own privilege to work towards dismantling systemic racism. I pledge to accept feedback with a humble heart, knowing that growth is work above the ego and for the cause. Thank you to all educators on Insta that use their platform to share ways to continue the fight. ・・ . . . . . .#whiteprivilegeisreal #knowbetterdobetter #blacklivesmatter #teachersbelieveblacklivesmatter #socialjustice #blacklivesmatter #nojusticenopeace #sjw #racism #antiracism #oppression #prejudice #implicitbias #socialjusticeeducation #multiculturaleducation #civilrights #humanrights #equity #inequality #inequity #equality #teachersofig #teachersfollowteachers

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, ya’ll. But, take it from a teacher that’s been off-duty for a school year the first time, there’s a lot of light all along that tunnel, too. Having space from teaching is making me think about that magic of being a teacher that you forget when you’re trying to keep your head above water (and just praying for a light at the end of the tunnel). The magic of relationships. The magic of planting seeds. The magic of starting fires inside young hearts. The light is there every day, ya’ll. It may not be the one at the end of the tunnel, but it’s still bright. Do your resident Teacher Off Duty a favor and look for it today, and look for it every day until winter break. You are doing more amazing things than you have time or energy to notice, I promise ❤️❄️
