Wow! We are so privileged to have worked on a project that has received an 'Honourable Mention' in this year's Creative Review The Annual 2020 for the Design, Installation and Exhibition category. Celebrating the best of design, advertising, film and all creative industries. https://www.creativereview.co.uk/welsh-national-opera-a-vixens-tale/ A Vixon's Tale was a collaborative project commissioned by the Welsh National Opera Cenedlaethol Cymru and designed by the incredible team at Arcade - specialists in Augmented Reality projects. The installation was housed in the foyer of the Wales Millennium Centre to coincide with the WNO's production of The Cunning Little Vixen by Leoš Janáček’s. Aimed at immersing the audience in an alternate story-telling atmosphere, and engaging a younger audience in the magical world of opera, a series of arches were built by our talented team at CTS. These arches were used as the backdrop for visitors to enter a VR world, using phones and Bluetooth headphones to watch the story unfold as characters and elements of the arches came alive on their screens. These arches were designed by Arcade and went through an extensive drawings process here at CTS. Olly Shapley, Head of the Drawing Office spent weeks breaking down each archway into a series of built-up layers; each layer, in meticulous detail. The artwork on the arches was printed directly onto the birch plywood by a local company ACT Reprographics who CNC'd the printed sheets as well. Our carpenters then began the detailed task of layering up each individual layer of printed plywood to form the overall arches; each split into 4 sections so they could be transported safely. Hidden fixings and connections allowed the arched to be re-assembled on site without any visible fastenings that would detract from their finished look. The freestanding arches needed sanding and glazing to project the raw plywood edges and to seal the overall look as well as providing a durable and safe finish for the visitors of the installation. It really was a team effort, spearheaded at CTS by Olly and managed by David Massey at WNO in collaboration with Arcade and WMC.
Next up on Meet the Team we have our Managing Director Darren Joyce. He brings a wealth of industry experience and he makes a lovely cuppa!! #cardifftheatricalservices #scenicart #scenarybuilding Stay Safe
