Did you know that I used to work in the corporate world doing marketing? I was the social media girl for a very large fishing company. I was in charge of creating and publishing social media posts for 11 fishing brands—that was over 40 social media accounts. Insane, right? Especially considering I’m averaging about one post a month on instagram and Facebook right now for my own business. • Yes, really. If you look at my Instagram feed, you’ll see I had one post in June, none in July, and only one in August. And now my first post in September. That’s like marketing suicide for a business, especially a small business like mine that is built on connecting with clients through social media. • I don’t really know why I haven’t posted much except that sometimes it’s hard to figure out what to say in these little squares on the Internet. • But I’m still here. Taking pictures of the best people ever. Always growing, learning, creating. These two, along with many, many other couples and families, are going to be on the blog this week. I’m finally catching up on blogging + website updates!
I’m finally catching up on blogging + sharing, starting with this engagement session that landed in my inbox last week. I just melt when I get pretty #fuji400h scans back. There is nothing like film, y’all. 💕 • @mikaylanblack + @jayt0m are on the blog today and it’s one of my favorite sessions yet in the beautiful city of Charleston. I can’t wait until their wedding next year...I’m going to be an emotional MESS. I’m just so proud of this friend I’ve had since daycare, and feel so humbled and honored to be able to capture these memories for her. • The blog link is in my profile to see more!
#Repost @hilaryrushford ・・・ I am stunned at the news of Kate Spade taking her own life. You think that if you build your dream business, with your husband, it’s a smashing creative success, adored by all, you sell it for billions while raising your child in glamorous New York City... the textbook “everything”... that you will be happy. • At least I think that. I’m happy now, but won’t I be even happier with more growth, notoriety, impact, wealth, freedom? It’s right around the corner with just a little more X? • When I can just get all the big wedding planning done. When we have filled our job openings to have more help. When I get the first draft of the book done. When the publishing contract is signed. I’m about to be happier, right? • What I’m convicted of today is you will be as happy as you are in your present position. More doesn’t guarantee happiness. So we should all pursue our mental health, emotional wellbeing, physical balance as our prime aim today. • Not when we have more time because we got through one more launch, season, a little more money, help, followers. Because more doesn’t mean easier. Which is hard to remember when all the stories + marketing tell us otherwise. So we have to remind each other. • Sister. Don’t pull another all nighter. If you’re spiraling in stress it means you’re expecting too much of yourself. If you’re crying with overwhelm it means you need to let more things go. Take tomorrow off. Close the laptop every night at 6. Plan a trip. Take social media free weekends. Go to therapy. Get massages. Be more vulnerable with friends. Journal. Insert a million healthy actions (+ I of course am not presuming to have any insight on what could have helped this one woman) but don’t wait. • The next level you’re working + waiting to get to is going to be wonderful. But it doesn’t mean you’ll be happier. Choose to be happy now. And call your girlfriends. ❤️ #WroteThisForMyself #ChooseHappiness • PS Kate, thank you for sharing your creativity + being my favorite brand mentor. You’ve inspired me as a business woman + that impact is not lost with your leaving too soon.
