5x5 foot panel build, assorted photos. Once the top is glued on, I flip it over to add straight and angled cross bracing. I do this after the top is glued on because the outside frame and ply are lined up as accurately as possible prior to gluing and clamping. I find it's just easier to glue top and sides, then flip the panel and add bracing after. #painting #paintingtechniques #woodworking
Since I don't have a table large enough on which to build my next panel, I decided to build a series of leveled supports. Each one is laser leveled so the whole thing is one level surface. It being a series of boards allows access to the underside or along multiple points when I build a painting panel lying on top. But you may ask-- why not just use the giant panel you just built as your flat surface? 1) i would damage the smooth surface i just applied. 2) no easy access to sides and underneath 3) its just too big, cant walk around it! #painting #paintingtechniques #woodworking
Final stages of a ten foot panel build, priming and installing cleats for hanging. Definitely an enjoyable part of creating large scale works, but there was still so much to do! I still had two more panels to build, and I think my expression and hair show that I'm definitely in work mode! #painting #panel #fineart #commission #oilpainting #artist #artstudio
Very satisfying step-- gluing and clamping the plywood.
Cross bracing in and top ready for gluing. Placing the plywood on a ten foot piece by oneself is a challenge, so I installed temporary supports to hold the ply above the frame while i ran a bead of glue across all supports. #painting #panel #build #woodworking #humantreerobot
Sometimes you get little reminders that it's good to take a break from computer work! @driving_with_nugget is happy to remind me, in oh so subtle fashion.
