Happy International day of women and girls in Science. 🥽🥼💁🏼♀️ . Here you’ll see a photo of me and one of my best friends. Two gals enjoying a trip to Sydney in Australia, both trained scientists in different fields. . If you’d have asked me 10 years ago what I’d be doing now, I would’ve told you I’d be a professional athlete.. fast forward 4 years and a car accident later, I would’ve said a lawyer.. if you ask me now what I am, I’ll tell you I’m a medical researcher doing a PhD on the side. . . I am one of those people that can say I absolutely love my job. It fulfils every aspect of what I’d want and need in a job, but it would be wrong to say it was what I’ve ALWAYS wanted. I didn’t have a clue until I finished my masters, and that’s okay. With ever increasing pressure being put on 15/16 year olds to know what they want to be by the time they’re my age, it’s important to remember that you can change your mind and you have NOTHING to prove to anyone. Do it for you and only you, it’s only going to be you who suffers if you’re unhappy in a job you chose under pressure. At the same time, it is an amazing achievement if your childhood dream job transpires to be the perfect thing for you and you can reach that goal of getting it. Either way, both avenues are okay as long as it is for you. . I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with some incredible female scientists, as well as being able to call some my closest friends. They inspire me every day and I love hearing about people’s different journeys into science. Science acts as a voice for all and discriminates against none. You can learn, practice, teach, write and enjoy it at any stage in life, with any gender and it is relevant to basically everything. I am forever grateful and proud to be a scientist. . So here’s to women and girls in science. May we know them, may we raise them, and may we inspire them 👩🏼⚕️✨
Looking back over how wonderful this Christmas and new year was, it’s a testament to the great friendships forged from avid travelling around my favourite country. I miss Melbourne and Australia 🌏 but most importantly, I miss @avatickle - you can come back now Av please! 💚
Edinburgh is easily one of my favourite cities ever 💚 2 different trips, and 2 very good reasons to be thankful.
Might not be much to you but it meant a lot to me.. wouldn’t say I’m even the slightest bit okay with heights and still haven’t conquered touching the top yet but it’s the highest I’ve ever been and it’s a step in the right direction - thanks to my babe @elweights for pushing me to do it 💖🥰
This has to be one of my most favourite photos I’ve ever been sent of my dogs - the Christmas spam has begun! 🎄💖
She loves it when I take a million photos with her - she even posed and stuck her tongue out 💁🏼♀️🥰
As winter makes it way back into my life, I’m feeling ever more ready to jump on the plane back to Australia.. 🌎🌝 fancy it @benquirky?
Meeting (and falling in love with) the new member of Shaftesbury Grove 🥰
Had the best time with my fave Aussie gal - can’t wait to see you again soon @avatickle 💖
