The new @get.creative.with theme this week is Play Dough! When I heard, I instantly remembered this super fun/super yummy ice cream dough recipe. I made this for Kinley when she was two (check our stories today for a #fbf peek at that little cutiepants) and she LOVED it...like so much that she ate almost the entire batch! Yes, ATE play dough 😂 Don't worry--it's completely edible and actually delicious in a ridiculously sugary-sweet kind of way 😉 All you need is for each color is: 1 cup of store-bought frosting 2 3/4 cups of powdered sugar Just stir it up with a mixer and knead it a little to get all that powdered sugar mixed in, and voila! It's not even sticky! I gave K some cones, rainbow sprinkles, an ice cream bowl and spoon and an ice cream scoop to play with today and she had a BLAST! I don't know yet if you can refrigerate it and use it later--it's in the fridge now, so I'll let ya know tomorrow! @playfullittlelearners chose such a fun theme!! I'm excited to stock up on all of your fab dough ideas 😍🙌🏼 Happy long weekend friends! 😘💙❤️
It's Follow Friday again, friends, and man do I have a good one for ya this week! Introducing Heidi of @the_harmony_tree 💜💚 She wows me daily with her gorgeous photos, story selections, infectious enthusiasm and never-ending supply of sweetness. Hop on over, check out her feed full of bright and beautiful pics and show this creative lady some love if you've got a few 😘 Happy almost weekend y'all!
She ate two for every one she put in her bag, insisted on picking the tiniest cute little baby berries and after sneezing approximately 141 times (by her count) she hollered, It's this hay, man! Another perfect, hilarious strawberry-pickin' day for the memory book 😁💚🍓Happy Fri-YAY!
We've been talking about butterflies a LOT lately thanks to our little caterpillar buddies, and I was thinking this morning about a fluttery project we tried back when Kinley was still in binkies on a gloomy day exactly like today: STICKY BUTTERFLIES! (Slide for the #tbt crafty Kinley pic 👶🏻) We tried them again this afternoon and they were just as fun and easy as I remembered 😍🦋 I'll pop the link to the VERY old blog post in my bio just in case you wanna try making some of your own 😉💜 #creativechildhood
••The Fog by Kyo Maclear, Pictures by Kenard Pak•• #PRHpartner #tundra50 Kinley is still slightly obsessed (huge understatement) with birds so you can imagine her excitement when we cracked the cover of this adorable gem of a book and found that it was about a sweet little yellow birdie who enjoys observing people. One day a heavy fog rolls in on Warble's island and the tourists stop coming. But why did the fog appear? How long will it be there? Can anything be done? And why do none of the other animals on the island seem to notice or care? Just when he starts to lose hope, he spots a small bright-colored juvenile female human in the distance. Maybe together they can find the answers and figure out a solution! I was just drooling over this book while reading the @spiky_penelope interview with the seriously awesome Kenard Pak, and what do you know?! It showed up on our porch THE NEXT MORNING! It was like a book miracle and I literally shrieked with joy when I opened that envelope 😂😍 Kinley and I give this super charming and mysterious masterpiece four thumbs waaaaay up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Thank you so much @tundrabooks 🤓❤️

Kinley and I spent the day strawberry picking but we still had time for an evening print project or two! @blastasticday got me all amped up for fireworks last night so I decided to try and make some of our own. We combined our last @get.creative.with print project with our first #steamkidschallenge patriotic project and came up with spider mum firework prints 😁😍 Totally blastastic, right?! My Mother's Day bouquet was getting all wilty anyway, might as well get some gorgeous stamps out of it 😁🙌🏼 Make sure you tag your last printy projects with #getcreativewith because I don't wanna miss a single one and tomorrow is the big day when I have to narrow down all that awesome into one small grid...wish me luck you super incredibly creative friends of mine! 😘😘

You guys ROCK!! How in the world will we ever possibly choose?! Just in case you need a little MORE printspiration (HA!) have you tried @creatingcreatives crazy vibrant bubble prints? Kinley and I had a blast with these things the other day 😍 Head over to her feed for her easy-to-follow instructions and keep up the amazing work! 😘
It's Small World Week over @kidartlit and it occurred to me today while K and I were in the middle of making an Italian feast out of clay for her dollhouse family that it might just count! On the menu: pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, salad and fruit and cupcakes for dessert 🤤🤤 We play dollhouse just about everyday around here. Usually her little dolly family's got some sort of dramatic adventure going on--trips to Paris, Legoland, Doc McStuffins clinic, dealing with Sofia the First's evil twin, etc., but today was pretty low key. Just TV and eating. Lots and lots of eating...pretty much an exact tiny replica of our own Sunday 😂❤️
I have been meaning to join @ohcreativeday and @hidden_egg on the #4ThingsILove Sundays for weeks and this week I finally remembered before Monday rolled around 😜 So here goes: ❤️ Lazy Sundays -- sweatpants and a Pixar marathon? Yes, please. ❤️ Chocolate -- all the kinds. ❤️ Pedicures by Kinley -- rainbow colors and sparkles galore trump nice, neat toes ANY day 😜 ❤️ Instabuddies -- I hit the big 1,000 followers milestone yesterday and it got me thinking about how much I love this artsy, kiddo-centric, book-loving community of kindred spirits! You guys inspire me and make me smile/snort-laugh every single day and I'm so thankful for you! 😘
FIZZY CHALK PAINT •slide for a closer look at the FIZZ 🤓 and check our stories to see it in action 💚• Just 1 1/2 cups of baking soda, 1/2 cup cornstarch and a cup of water plus a few drops of food coloring will get you one messy, super fun/super fizzy paint sesh outside! We spent most of the day having a garage sale and hitting Sam's Club, so we were def in need of some creative fun! We painted and dripped our chalk paints all over the place and when they were all used up, we sprayed our masterpiece with a spray bottle full of vinegar and enjoyed all that pretty fizzle-y awesomeness! Cool, huh? 😎😜Thanks @kidsactivitiesblog for the perfect STEAMy recipe to spice up our super boring day 💜🤓💚 #steamkidschallenge
• Mr. Zinger's Hat by Cary Fagan Illustrated by Dušan Petričić • #PRHpartner #tundra50 Mr. Zinger's hat is full of stories and imagination and his little neighbor, Leo, discovers its magic the day his bouncy ball goes a little bananas and knocks it right off the elderly storyteller's head. Leo manages to catch it with his own melon and as they sit on a bench to rest after the runaway hat chaos, they piece together a little story of their own with a little help from that magical hat. Slide for a peek at my favorite pages--you can actually see their story coming to life! We loved this one ❤️Kinley totally judged this book by it's cover and she was NOT excited to read it, but once we got started she was captivated. It even inspired her to write a book of her own (about Trolls, of course 😜) Such a unexpectedly charming story! 👍🏻👍🏻
••Slide for a look at the cute little ladybug who dreamed up this project 💜•• Dave made a fire in our backyard last week and as soon as Kinley saw the first flame flicker, she ran inside to hunt for some marshmallows to roast. We didn't have any, but when we went to bed that night she asked me if we could buy some at the store for roasting...and painting with. Say whaaaat?! Haha I thought at first she had spotted the super cool @artbarblog marshmallow painting project (head over there and look for that fun if you haven't seen it already 👍🏻👍🏻) but no, that wasn't it. She wanted to make some prints! We got to work stamping our IKEA easel paper as soon as we got home from the grocery store and our dotted and spotted masterpiece made the perfect Mother's Day wrapping paper for Grammie's presents. Wouldn't this be fun if you used pudding paint, too? Just sugar-free vanilla pudding (unless you LIKE super sticky messes) with food coloring and marshmallow stampers? Perfect for those little tiny artists who like to taste paint 😉 Hope this inspires even the mommas of the smallest painters to @get.creative.with prints this week 😘🙌🏼🎉
You guys are blowing me away with all of your printed masterpieces already! 😍 I'm so glad you are as excited about this @get.creative.with theme as I am 🙌🏼🎉 @ohcreativeday promised you some printing tips from yours truly for those of you with kiddos who are all about that smearage, and I dreamed up an idea yesterday that just might help. Reverse stamps! I hot-glued the different printing materials on paper-sized pieces of foam board (cardboard would work just as well, but I just had foam board handy) Kinley and I tried painting on them and instead of stamping them on paper, we placed the paper on top and squished down on it to make the print. Today we tried sticks, flat glass marbles, bubblewrap and drinking straws. Sticks and marbles were meh, but bubblewrap and straws were a huge success! Not a single bit of smearage in sight folks 🙌🏼🎉 Wouldn't it be fun to layer the prints with different colors or even different textures on the same sheet? So many possibilities! Do you have any ideas for other printing materials to try? If you find a great one, holler cause we wanna give it a go, too! Keep up the awesome work you guys 💜👍🏻 I've got a tot printing tip coming tomorrow ••Shout-out to @creatingcreatives for inspiring the straw texture with those awesome straw stamps from a few weeks back 🙌🏼❤️••
It's @get.creative.with Prints Week, baby, and guess who's hosting...ME!! 😁🎉 Making prints is one of Kinley and I's favorite ways to get creative together and we can't wait to be wowed and inspired by the incredible things I just know you are about to create. Bubble wrap, leaves, hands and feet, veggies, whatever you can dream up -- make a print and show it to us! Don't forget to tag your pics with #getcreativewith so we can all swing by and check out your awesomeness, and be sure to follow @ohcreativeday and @littlebuttondiaries --two of my ultimate favorite accounts, who just happen to run this show regularly 😍😍 Next Wednesday I'll choose and post my fave printed masterpieces. EEP! I'm SOO excited!! Let's do this y'all! 😁❤️🙌🏼
I am known as the baker in my family. I can make ANYTHING from lemon meringue pies to the perfect chocolate chip cookies, but there is one dessert that no matter how many times I try comes out a total grody mess--LEMON BARS. Galaxy jars are apparently the preschool science equivalent of lemon bars in this house. We tried three times and used up everything resembling a cotton ball around here and still a big old giant fail. Oh well, we had fun getting messy and glittery and now that I've got some extra tips from my buddy Heidi 💜( @the_harmony_tree ) maybe we'll give it another go another day. Or maybe they will just join lemon bars on the list of things we never speak of 😜 They can't all be winners, can they? 😉🤷🏻♀️✨
