Team United Way had a great time volunteering in Alma painting fire hydrants this morning!
Did you know current data suggests that more than a third of kindergarten students enter school unprepared? As part of our strategic plan to increase literacy rates in the region, United Way has partnered with Gratiot-Isabella RESD and the Regional Early Literacy Collaborative to create a Getting Ready for Kindergarten calendar! This 12-month calendar (June 2018-May 2019) contains fun activities that parents can do with their children to help them get prepared for kindergarten. There is also information about our local libraries and other great community resources for parents. The calendar is free to families with children ages 3-5 years old. Calendars are being distributed to elementary schools, community agencies, health care providers, libraries and child care centers around the region. To get your own copy of the calendar, please call us at (989) 463-6245 or stop by the United Way office in Alma or Mt. Pleasant!
This week we teamed up with Mercantile Bank of Michigan to deliver over 1,100 summer literacy kits to every first grader in Gratiot & Isabella Counties. Thank you, Mercantile Bank for encouraging children to continue learning during the summer months!
