We have 3 languages in our home but primary speak English. For now, I want our kiddos to learn Spanish - their dad’s native tongue - so they can speak and listen to all sorts of stories about their dad from their Abuelita. Once in a while, I “sprinkle” Tagalog and waray-waray. Although Tagalog is the primary language spoken in the Philippines, I grew up with the waray dialect in Tacloban city. It’s not uncommon for three diff Filipinos to have varying levels of difficulty in understanding each other. For instance someone who grew up speaking Tagalog couldn’t understand some of what I’m trying to say in waray but I can understand them perfectly.... while another can speak Illocoan and I have no clue why they’re saying so we have to butcher Tagalog to find a common ground..... the amazing thing about the Philippines is though that we all were taught English in school. So all 3 Filipinos could forgo their own native dialects and just communicate in English. 🤷🏻♀️ . . Sounds complicated, huh? That’s why most of the time we speak English at home. And due to living in Texas, we choose to focus on Spanish for now. . . I hope that once they’ve “mastered,” it, I can start on Tagalog. . . I want my kiddos to be proud of both their cultures. And to know that there exists more than our first world bubble and first world problems. . . #raisingbilingualchildren #learninglanguages #filipino #tagalog #spanish #mexipinokids
How are you doing with your resolutions? Did you know Jan 12th was “quitters day?” I’m not sure how I feel about that but I’m on day 16th of no meat! 🥳 I’m mostly doing it for health reasons. With my preeclampsia history, I’m at risk for heart disease. And quite recently, needed to embrace a healthier view of food and different ways to manage stress. . . SOoo I’ve mostly eaten at home since I can control what I eat. The two times we went out, I found a veggie option. If you’re at Chick-fil-A , they have a yummy veggie wrap! 😋😋 The salad took me 2 days to finish but it was still good. . Life happens and if you haven’t started or got distracted or whatever the case, don’t worry about it. Start again. It doesn’t matter if you began on Jan 1st or Jan 31st.... if you want to change something or do something....do it now. Start today. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Almost halfway through January!! ❤️❤️ Happy and Blessed Monday, friends!
❤️❤️ Happy Wednesday!
Waiting for my daughter at school pick up line and after finishing this, I just want to go home, lock myself in a room and not come out until I’m done with all my work-in-progress stash. 😂👊 . . Write your story, the queen demands that it be written. . First poetry book read of 2019. #poetry #poetrycommunity #amandalovelace #thewitchdoesntburninthisone 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
From “Storm of Hope: God, Preeclampsia, Depression and me.” . . My friend goes back to work today. It’s been 5 years since she’s been employed - in part to help care and raise her daughter, and then of course, finding a job is hard enough on its own without the gap in employment. . . The other day, she told me about the guilt she was feeling about leaving her daughter. I know this guilt, as I’m sure every mom has felt this way at some point. Should I go back to work? What will my daughter think? Who’ll take care of her? Questions and guilt and anxiety and scenarios all play over and over. . . The thing is.... it’s exhausting enough to be a mother. Why do we have to second guess ourselves when we carried a lovely little human? Our child won’t forget us. We’ll always be their mama no matter if we wear our fancy pant suits to work, or sweat pants. They don’t think about guilt. They think about the bedtime stories that’ll happen, the cuddles, the random outings.... the friends they’ll make and the fun they’ll have. . . So give yourself grace. ❤️❤️❤️ This mama will applaud and support you and rooting you.... we’re all in this together! 👊 . . #poetry #poetsofinstagram #writersofinstagram #poetrycommunity #writerscommunity #mamawriters #leilatualla #stormofhope
I’m going to be sharing weekly Bible verses, from now till the end of the year. Here’s a bit of Wednesday Wisdom for you. ❤️❤️❤️
Messy room in the background but starting the new year with a new read! . . One of my goals this year is to read and review 30 books. Last year, I read 27... so 3 more should be a breeze, right? 😉 . . Also, I love the title of this book and therefore will be using “becoming,” as my one word for 2019. I have NO IDEA what I’ll be “becoming,” - a better cook, Baker, poet, writer, who knows but the idea has lit a spark. . . Do you have a word or theme for this year? If not, don’t fret! It’s a new year, after all and whatever you want this year to be, let it be! ❤️ . . Happy reading. Cheers to day one of Chapter 2019. . . #becoming #michelleobama #bookstagram #book #oneword2019 #bookblogger #bookreviewer

“When I think of ghost towns, I think “empty,” “ silent,” but walking through feeling every bit like someone or something is taking you in; watching your every move hidden in the darkness. This collection isn’t what I’d label as “haunting.” It is a brutally honest walk through this shell of our memories and calling out every single skeleton in our proverbial closet and demanding it/them to show themselves out.” . .
