There’s been so much buzz lately both in real life and in the news headlines about social media and the effects it has on us. Both good and bad, but I can tell you as a small business owner and creative it has become all too consuming. I find myself questioning the purpose and intent of it all. I question the time it takes away from my family, I question all that it is and what it will look like 5 yrs from now. . . . Is it here to prove that we’re showing up? Because if that’s the case, then that’s a little crazy and I don’t think I’d still own a thriving business after 12 years if I weren’t. Ya know? 😉 . . . Social media and feeds have us tricked into thinking if we don’t show up “here” then we aren’t “engaging” with our clients. Nothing could be FURTHER from the truth. I am more engaged than ever with current and potential clients thanks to incredible platforms like @honeybook, Zoom, @skype, @calendlyhq and so many other powerful tools I use everyday in my business. 🙌🏻 . . . But social media ... in an effort to get real, just doesn’t feel real for me. For my clients. A way to share my work? Absolutely. A way to connect with other creatives and be found by potential clients, sure. But this honestly isn’t where I come to make my most authentic connections. I do that in “real” life. ♥️ Trust me, I do love connecting. I truly do. But trying to keep up with the algorithms and follower counts and engagement of it all is EXHAUSTING. . . . So I’m here today as I’ve always been and will continue to be. I will share my work that I’m really proud of and because I have incredible clients and opportunities. I will schedule posts ahead of time and comment when I have a moment to. Call me a dinosaur, but I value so many other parts of a business I’ve built from the ground up and have such big dreams for and social media is sucking up so much of that creative energy and spirit. Who’s with me? 🙃. I chose this beautiful image of Laura on her wedding day because of the veil. There’s so much more behind a veil. There’s beauty, authenticity, a love of so many things in this life we’re creating and living... not curating in a feed. . . Happy Monday ♥️
It’s supposed to feel like 100 degrees here in Michigan today. Here’s your sweet reminder that winter isn’t that far away. ❄️
This Friday finds me adding some of my recent and amazing clients to my portfolio and website. The few sweet moments we had with Sam & Julie on their wedding day still have me smiling even a few weekends later.
Timeless has never looked better than it did for Hannah & Kiel on their wedding day. Do you love timeless as much as I do?
Because two creatives are better than one. At least that what I’ve learned in this business of being creative. . . . She is more than just someone who I share a studio space with, more than someone who snuggles up my kids whenever she has a chance or is the first to insist we order a hot fudge sundae after lunch. . . . Dayna is someone who has big little dreams just like me. She is the first to cheer me on in the sidelines. She is always there to remind me of His great plan for me. She is my down to Earth, real life angel. And some days we feel unstoppable and some days we waive a white flag in surrender to the pressure of being #allthethings to our husbands, children and businesses. Or most days, we just dance and laugh out loud. Those are my favorite days. . . . But no matter what, she is there. Two creatives are definitely better than one and she is my proof.
