Happy third day of IBD awareness week! Pain is a common complaint for patients living with IBD. Between intestinal pain and the pain associated with disease complications both in and out of the gut, pain can be debilitating and negatively impact a patient's quality of life. Unfortunately, the pain associated with IBD isn't visible to the eye. That is why we need to make all of the different aspects of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis #IBDvisible. Where does IBD hurt you, and how do you cope with the pain?
Happy second day of IBD awareness week! NCCL member Danielle was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when she was just 10 years old. To most people, she appears healthy. But her healthy exterior doesn't reflect the incapacitating nature of her disease. Throughout my 11 year journey with Crohn's, I have been on many different medications. I have had several flares, one occurring at the end of my first semester of college which resulted in me undergoing a bowel resection and the removal of 10 inches of my colon. Although I have never fully been in remission, I have continued to participate in sports at a high level, excel in school, and find time to have fun doing things I enjoy. Danielle is #IBDvisible. Are you?
