“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” ~Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom~ When we were children we never cared what color someones skin is. We didn’t judge people based on their religion. We didn’t ostracize people because of their culture. We didn’t stereotype. We didn’t hate. Not until we were taught to. This group of children had never met before today. They didn’t know each other’s names, the only common connection they had was me. These incredible children are from all different walks of life, different races, different religions, different types of families, different upbringings. Yet these beautiful souls ran around the field together playing, they talked and they laughed, they huddled together to keep each other warm, they hugged, they enjoyed each other. I’m convinced that we can look inside ourselves, discard all of the negativity and preconceived notions, and we can re-learn how to accept and learn from each other. We have the ability to stop this cycle of hatred. We have the ability and the responsibility to raise this generation of children to choose to love and respect everyone. We have the ability and responsibility to end hate crimes. We can raise our children to love, listen to, accept, and respect everyone regardless of having different colored skin or beliefs. This is a time when our children are smarter than we are. Let’s become more like them. #equality #love #endracism #loveeachother #time2unite #timetounite
