Noticing you’re feeling tired throughout the day? . Sometimes it can be hard to sense whether we’re actually tired, or if we’ve been stagnant for too long and are holding on to a source of potential, unused, energy . A good way to find out in which situation you find yourself today, is to practice sun salutations for 5 minutes . And before you say ‘I’m too tired’ or ‘I don’t have time’.... Trust me, you always have 5 minutes to tune in with yourself and explore “What’s up” . In case you notice this is energizing you, you’ve likely been sitting still for too long and can benefit from more movement: energy is freeing up and wants to move through you! You may benefit from pranayama (with a focus on the inhale and a hold) and movement, such as standing postures to get rid of tension, inversions and backbends, and end with some restorative, grounding postures to arrive back in the here and now with more clarity and attention . In case you notice the movements are making you feel more tired, exhausted even, you probably are. And perhaps, you’ve pushed a bit too hard already today or this week? It’s time to take a break by doing the bare minimum and focus heavily on grounding yourself: placing your legs up the wall is a wonderful exercise to find equilibrium, as are longer held restorative postures, followed by Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) . Take 5 minutes to tune in with yourself and follow your body’s whispers. It’ll share its needs when you allow it the chance to speak up . Tomorrow we’ll chat about some oils that can support you during Early Spring and connecting our body + mind 💞🙌🌿
We only need to look at nature, to know how we can be good stewards of our physical and emotional health and bring our wishes to full expression . As Spring arrives, the emphasis is on expansion, breaking free, growth, light and cleansing. Just look at a time-lapse of a sprouting seed, the magic of plant life emerging from something so small - yet so full of potential . Much like yourself, I would say . All of our dreams and desired can be considered seeds, planted long before we even had a conscious awareness of them. Ready to be expressed when the conditions are aligned . They do not come to full bloom without the right soil, nourishment, patience and being tended to with loving kindness . You are to provide these supportive circumstances . By eating real food, mostly plants. By saying nice things to yourself and actively working on changing thought patterns and behaviours that perhaps weren't even yours to hold on or act out in the first place . By allowing your nervous system buffering time, for it is in those moments of Pause and Rest that magic lives . What desires are you tending to in the garden of your body and mind right now? I’d love to hear about them in the comments below, there’s power to speaking your wishes aloud!
In Spring, our most active organs are the Liver and Gallbladder, which control flow of Chi and detox. Emotionally, you may notice strong feelings arise - like Anger, which is the corresponding emotion to these organs . The assignment for this seasonal shift is to move from a state of Anger towards Compassion. How? By practicing Patience . Instead of unleashing your rage and sprinting towards your prey like this Lion, what if you'd take the time to support yourself in releasing some of this frustrated energy first? . One of the BEST ways I know how, is by swinging, slapping and shaking your body. Sounds a little crazy? Sure. Works like a charm though! . Let your physical body do the talking here, your emotions will follow suit. Allow them to be expressed as they desire. Simply start by making a fist, or use the palm of your hand, and gently start to slap against the inside of your opposite arm - moving from the inner wrist upwards, towards the armpit. Spend some time here as it's a place of holding. Don't forget the outside of your arm, slap from your shoulder back down to your palm, then switch hands and move to the other arm. Repeat this process, making your way from your upper body down to your lower body. Be gentle with your face and chest, spend some extra time on and around your lymph nodes and joints to release stuck energy . Slap all the energy down towards the ground, include the bottoms of your feet. Now bring some intuitive movement to your body, either by swinging your upper body, circling your hips, or allowing your entire body to shake - being gentle with your head and neck . Let your jaw release, make any sounds that wish to release. Let your breath come natural, no need to control it here. Bring all the intense energy down, let it seep out of your fingertips and feet, back to the earth . Once you're noticing the energy draining from your body, slow down your movements. Stand quietly, rooted in mountain pose, notice what's happening in your physical + emotional body. Allow all the frantic energy to be taken in by the Earth. Bring your awareness to your breath and how it moves your lower belly . You've just practiced patience in motion! ✌️
1. For the remainder of February, let's talk about practical ways to remain balanced as we slowly shift from the Winter lethargy to the birth-giving momentum of Spring (she often comes with quite the force!). Over the next 9 days, I'll provide practical tools for you to make use of and explore in your path to seek and move towards your natural balance . While we're not at the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere quite yet - which falls on March 20th - at least here in The Hague, Spring truly seems to have sprung and I certainly am noticing the internal shifts occuring. The agitation, the shifts in energy - from lots of inspiration and drive, to sliding back into somewhat of a slump once the cold and damp afternoon sets in . One of my biggest personal lessons is how to work with transitions. To take the time to pause, notice, reflect and adjust when and where needed. I trust I am not the only one to often rush into or prefer one season over the other . But, let's - much like we do during the end of a calender year - pay attention to the internal and external shifts as they arise. Notice what there is to be learned, what wishes to be expressed, what provides us with the nourishment to tread the earth with a compassionate and gentle heart. For it is in these in-between moments that grace lives . Here we go!
Under the fuller-fullest Super Moon of year, she is my spirit animal . Balm of the soul . Bandaid for the heart . Splint for tender back muscles . Weaver, knitter, fixer-upper of holes in my Aura . All that and so much more, who’d thought such a small bottle could all but hold?
I thought I had to have it all together in order to share I thought I needed the 'perfect body' in order to help others I thought I needed to follow my daily routine to a T in order to be taken serious . But that was all chatter of the mind - a way to not take my own growth serious It had me bypass that it's not about the projection of an ideal image or end product that matters, inspires, or moves . Rather, the journey there The showing up when things feel stuck ugly, hard, lonely or so, so far away Is what makes us connect . I thought you wanted me a certain way But I had that wrong, all along . I wanted myself a certain way And through rejection of what I am, here and now I created the stuck ugly, hard, lonely and so, so far away . -- . I thought I needed to know it all I thought I needed to have a system figured out . Practical tips for the do-ers Philosophical insights for the feel-ers Visually pleasing shots for the see-ers and so on . But this life It but a mere snippet A snapshot, a blurb, a blink . And here I am, trying to live and hold up to the full image When sharing the small bits would be more than enough . For the small, it's real Tangible, connected, inspired Here, now . The full image, is coming together On, and on Like a puzzle, made up of all the small bits and won't fall in place Until we near the end . Only then will we realize The lines will blur It won't be as black and white, no more Worries about abs shall fade for concerns about tender bones, heart muscles or loved ones near, worse: far . Some of what will look all encompassing and hard to bear Today Becomes a reminder of the beauty and purity of how we perceived the world as youth . None of this experience is constant Not even the stories we tell ourselves . So let's shake hands and promise To share the small bits Soften our edges Let the puzzle be 'in progress' Pause every once in a while To reflect and call ourselves on our B.S. Then carry on, bit by bit . And enjoy the view, when it's our time
