Just so we're clear. It is white people who need to change. This idea that by speaking out black people are being divisive is far from accurate. There's a difference between exposing the division that already exists and actually creating divisiveness. Black people have been exposing the division and white people need to recognize that they created it. This is a huge point that gets missed often. Many groups are trying to reframe arguments and cast judgment on the way that the black lives matter movement is happening when really they need to be casting judgment on the way the white supremacy movement has been happening for 450 years. It's time to really reflect on it and find ways to change it for a more fair and equal existence. I'm black everyday and if you don't like seeing these post you know what to do but don't at me with pettiness because the content on this page will not be changing.

#Repost @thisisyolandarenteria I have blocked people and deleted comments in the past three weeks, something I had never done before. I have been asked to “debate” my stance. I have been asked to keep an open mind to other people’s opinions. I have been criticized for not allowing others to express themselves. I have even heard, as a therapist, I should allow everyone to speak their thoughts. But here is the thing... What is happening on many discussions are not conversations. Oppression is happening in front of our eyes and we call it freedom of speech. People insult others and say hurtful statements and we call it “their opinion”. These things we call conversations become places where the oppressed group continually tries to explain themselves to those perpetuating oppression. It is emotionally draining. We have enough information to understand that discrimination, prejudice and racism exist. We don’t need to convince people it does. We have enough information to know that white privilege and systemic oppression exist. We don’t need to convince people it does. It’s important to create safe spaces for ourselves and others. There is a difference between being open minded and opening the door to abuse. One last thing... in therapy, when there is a person who is narcissistic in the room, they will be the ones blaming the other for everything and will take zero responsibility. At times it will even lead to insults. That’s called gaslighting. I won’t allow it in the therapy room and I also will not allow it here. #equality #justice #equalityforall

When reality is questioned, false statements can begin to sound true. Especially for someone who is not well informed. I have to remind myself that we wouldn’t be fighting oppression if everyone agreed that the system was oppressive. But I know the facts. And the facts will always be the facts. Facts aren’t debatable. White privilege exists. Systemic Oppression Exists. Police brutality against Black and Brown bodies is disproportionate. Racial profiling exists. Black and Brown people’s history of trauma IS passed down. Oppressive systems have impacted Black and Brown people disproportionately. The history of Black and Brown people had an impact on their future generations, just as for White people. Racism exists. Discrimination exists. Prejudice exists. Inequality exists. #rp @trustmeimasocialworker Consent has a place in this work. I hear the frustration in non Black voices when they tell me how difficult it is to talk about race with a friend, family member, co-worker etc. It's not really cool to unload that on a Black person unless you ask because we're just like "hmmm tell me more about that" but inwardly shaking our heads because obvs we can identify with the frustration...and it's more than "frustrating" for us, its dangerous when we engage. But that's not the point of the post.😅 The point is this. Everybody doesn't want to talk about racism. They don't even have to tell you why or give a good reason. You can communicate the "right" way and use all the "right" steps to engage and still if that person isn't ready, you dragging them into a conversation they aren't ready to have will be unfruitful. You will get frustrated. You will come dangerously close to slipping into the pool of moral superiority, a pool filled deep with ego where distancing yourself from "those" white people makes you somehow better or does anything at all to protect and liberate Black people. 😑 Okay. You're not like them...anymore. Pump the brakes because the glee you get from not being "one of them" centers whiteness too. It's not the woke Olympics. You won't arrive, ever. I won't arrive in any of the identities I hold that AREN'T marginalized either. We are all problematic, always. The systems makes it so. Please know that I am not saying play small and don't speak up. Setting a boundary of what you will and will not tolerate is important and if you don't know how to set those maybe I'll make a post about that. Leaving the room when you hear disparaging comments or saying this makes me uncomfortable because it's racist/transphobic/homophobic etc is always okay and encouraged. Consent though is considering that people start in different places and before you info dump (I'm so guilty of this in every arena ever having to do with human rights😩) Are you trying to one up them or create a safe world for (insert marginalized identity)? Ask for permission. Here are some ways to do that. #blacklivesmatter
