Doing some #cookbookcrusade revison, the lemon and tahini biscuits from Crumb look like my next stop. Had a really busy studio day today, lots of jewellery made although slowly as it was through the fog of a horrid sinus headache 😫 Anyone else feeling rubbish due to this changeable weather? Cosy evening on the sofa reading cookbooks is the best medicine. 👍
Pasta alla norma from @jamieoliver's Jamie's Italy with some pangrattato too. #cookbookcrusade. He has a lot of haters but Jamie Oliver's books are amongst the most used in my kitchen, his recipes just work. His pizza dough recipe in Jamie at Home is fantastic, the carrot cake in Cook with Jamie and all the pasta recipes in this book. I've not been too enamoured with his recent budget and healthy ones but the earlier books are all must haves. The guy also knows what he's doing when it comes to pasta! Loved this, sprinkling the aubergines with oregano is such a great idea too.
Roast tomato salsa from #MexicanFoodMadeSimple by @thomasinamiers. This is a cracker of a recipe! We had it with mushroom and courgette quesadillas and a squeeze of lime (and a G&T cos Friday).#cookbookcrusade
The simplest pasta, and the best when you just need to eat and eat well. Linguine with chilli, lemon and garlic from #CookSimple by @dianahenryfood. I only had linguine in but it would definitely have been better with spaghetti. Catching up with #cookbookcrusade, it's been a few weeks, so I need to use my weekend to do some more cooking and baking! There's some bread books I need to revisit.
Two #cookbookcrusade recipes in one (long) weekend! Super simple and very tasty hot cross bun recipe from New British Classics by Gary Rhodes - blast from the past! They look a bit 'rustic' but taste really good! This is actually @jmwlls book from many years ago. Retro but a very good cookbook, so many recipes it's almost encyclopedic. 😁
Nachos! From @gizzierskine's #healthyappetite for this week's #cookbookcrusade. These took a while to make but I really enjoyed making each element and then nibbling on them while watching TV! The refried beans really make it and that guacamole recipe is aces. 🥑
Mushroom quesadillas and fresh tomato salsa from Mexican Food Made Simple by @thomasinamiers. Back on the #cookbookcrusade! Totally remember why i love this cookbook. So many fantastic flavours and easy weeknight-friendly dinners. Loved the fresh tomato salsa, thankfully I had good tomatoes in, if you don't then the roasted tomato salsa from this book is a good shout. 🍅
I'm so behind on my #cookbookcrusade 🙈 life gets in the way! I've mostly been cooking quick dinners and making jewellery but I'm dying to spend more time in the kitchen. This weekend I'm going to bake a cake and plan some recipes for the coming weeks. Any you can recommend from this lovely lot?
First day of spring so let's have some vegetables! Crunchy chopped salad loosely based on @smittenkitchen's recipe with halloumi coated in zatar and some random yoghurt. I ate two pieces of cake today so I reckon all the vegetables in my dinner resets all that. 😎
This week's #cookbookcrusade - breakfast pancakes from Bread, Cake, Doughnut, Pudding by @justingellatly. I'm finding with this challenge that quick and delicious recipes are my thing, I'd love to have time to make the more involved recipes (doughnuts!) so I need to set aside some time to do that. Easter Weekend looks good. 👍
This week's #cookbookcrusade choice is Kitchen Diaries by @nigelslater. A simple macaroni cheese with some token greenery. I love this book and often use it for inspiration through the seasons. I've got a soft spot for novels centred around food, and the Kitchen Diaries are such a nice way to combine stories and recipes. This recipe is from an October entry, but I think macaroni cheese works year round!
This week's #cookbookcrusade is the simple and easy pancake recipe from Alistair Williams' Student Grub book. This little paperback taught me how to cook, it belongs to my husband but I used it in my 20s to learn the basics. I was a terrible cook until then! It covers everything from spag bol to chicken casserole, scones to Victoria sponge. I'd recommend it to anyone, student or not, who wants to learn how to cook. 🍋
