A very unpretty* but delicious upside down apple cake adapted from #TheCardamomTrail by @chetnamakan. Tastes very much like tarte tatin in cake form which is fine by me! The #cookbookcrusade is not going well. I keep forgetting. I'm busy. I just wanna make a quick dinner and chill. 😬 I don't know whether to give up but that feels wrong. I might use the bank holiday weekend to do some proper planning. *Bet you've got the TLC song in your head 👌
Mushroom quesadillas, sour cream, token green. I keep forgetting about my #cookbookcrusade when meal planning, I think I may have lost enthusiasm for it. 😔
Warm jersey potato and broccoli salad inspired by @gingergourmand's post earlier, mine is much messier! With some fennel simply fried up in oil with some lemon. The @abelandcole cookbook said it tastes like Italy, which it does! #cookbookcrusade 🇮🇹 Just add prosecco.
White pizza with roasted squash, red onion, fennel seeds and pine nuts. The pizza dough recipe is a winner! From the 'Year of Good Eating' book by @nigelslater. Another one ticked off the ol' #cookbookcrusade. Back on it! 🙌
Macaroni (well actually some other random pasta) and cheese. Token salad. Made with smoked mozzarella and breadcrumbs with fennel seeds mixed in. Now I'm going to lie down. 🧀 This recipe is from the first of Nigel Slater's Kitchen Diaries, discovered on my #cookbookcrusade a little while ago. Talking of that, I've totally abandoned it lately but I'm going to start again in a few weeks time! Promise 😇
Tahini and lemon biscuits from Crumb by @ruby.tandoh for this week's #cookbookcrusade. Delicious! Could do with a tiny bit more sugar or icing to counteract the bitter tahini, they are a very grown up biscuit in terms of flavour. Had them with a cup of @kandulatea's newest blend, jumbo detox which fennel, peppermint, ginger and turmeric.
Hill Station Salad from #freshindia for this week's #cookbookcrusade installment. So refreshing in this muggy weather! The salad is made from fennel, pepper, onion and cucumber with a simple yoghurt dressing. 🥗 Definitely more than the sum of its parts! Making this next time we have a barbecue. Today we ate this with tamarind and ginger glazed paneer.
Doing some #cookbookcrusade revison, the lemon and tahini biscuits from Crumb look like my next stop. Had a really busy studio day today, lots of jewellery made although slowly as it was through the fog of a horrid sinus headache 😫 Anyone else feeling rubbish due to this changeable weather? Cosy evening on the sofa reading cookbooks is the best medicine. 👍
Pasta alla norma from @jamieoliver's Jamie's Italy with some pangrattato too. #cookbookcrusade. He has a lot of haters but Jamie Oliver's books are amongst the most used in my kitchen, his recipes just work. His pizza dough recipe in Jamie at Home is fantastic, the carrot cake in Cook with Jamie and all the pasta recipes in this book. I've not been too enamoured with his recent budget and healthy ones but the earlier books are all must haves. The guy also knows what he's doing when it comes to pasta! Loved this, sprinkling the aubergines with oregano is such a great idea too.
Roast tomato salsa from #MexicanFoodMadeSimple by @thomasinamiers. This is a cracker of a recipe! We had it with mushroom and courgette quesadillas and a squeeze of lime (and a G&T cos Friday).#cookbookcrusade
The simplest pasta, and the best when you just need to eat and eat well. Linguine with chilli, lemon and garlic from #CookSimple by @dianahenryfood. I only had linguine in but it would definitely have been better with spaghetti. Catching up with #cookbookcrusade, it's been a few weeks, so I need to use my weekend to do some more cooking and baking! There's some bread books I need to revisit.
Two #cookbookcrusade recipes in one (long) weekend! Super simple and very tasty hot cross bun recipe from New British Classics by Gary Rhodes - blast from the past! They look a bit 'rustic' but taste really good! This is actually @jmwlls book from many years ago. Retro but a very good cookbook, so many recipes it's almost encyclopedic. 😁
