Two #cookbookcrusade recipes in one (long) weekend! Super simple and very tasty hot cross bun recipe from New British Classics by Gary Rhodes - blast from the past! They look a bit 'rustic' but taste really good! This is actually @jmwlls book from many years ago. Retro but a very good cookbook, so many recipes it's almost encyclopedic. 😁
Nachos! From @gizzierskine's #healthyappetite for this week's #cookbookcrusade. These took a while to make but I really enjoyed making each element and then nibbling on them while watching TV! The refried beans really make it and that guacamole recipe is aces. 🥑
Mushroom quesadillas and fresh tomato salsa from Mexican Food Made Simple by @thomasinamiers. Back on the #cookbookcrusade! Totally remember why i love this cookbook. So many fantastic flavours and easy weeknight-friendly dinners. Loved the fresh tomato salsa, thankfully I had good tomatoes in, if you don't then the roasted tomato salsa from this book is a good shout. 🍅
I'm so behind on my #cookbookcrusade 🙈 life gets in the way! I've mostly been cooking quick dinners and making jewellery but I'm dying to spend more time in the kitchen. This weekend I'm going to bake a cake and plan some recipes for the coming weeks. Any you can recommend from this lovely lot?
First day of spring so let's have some vegetables! Crunchy chopped salad loosely based on @smittenkitchen's recipe with halloumi coated in zatar and some random yoghurt. I ate two pieces of cake today so I reckon all the vegetables in my dinner resets all that. 😎
This week's #cookbookcrusade - breakfast pancakes from Bread, Cake, Doughnut, Pudding by @justingellatly. I'm finding with this challenge that quick and delicious recipes are my thing, I'd love to have time to make the more involved recipes (doughnuts!) so I need to set aside some time to do that. Easter Weekend looks good. 👍
This week's #cookbookcrusade choice is Kitchen Diaries by @nigelslater. A simple macaroni cheese with some token greenery. I love this book and often use it for inspiration through the seasons. I've got a soft spot for novels centred around food, and the Kitchen Diaries are such a nice way to combine stories and recipes. This recipe is from an October entry, but I think macaroni cheese works year round!
This week's #cookbookcrusade is the simple and easy pancake recipe from Alistair Williams' Student Grub book. This little paperback taught me how to cook, it belongs to my husband but I used it in my 20s to learn the basics. I was a terrible cook until then! It covers everything from spag bol to chicken casserole, scones to Victoria sponge. I'd recommend it to anyone, student or not, who wants to learn how to cook. 🍋
Emergency midnight noodles from Every Grain of Rice by Fuschia Dunlop for this week's #cookbookcrusade. I've been holding out on you, I've made this a few times and it's such a good recipe if you want food in a hurry after a long day. The last few times I've not had chilli oil on hand so used chilli flakes and oil, this time I bought the proper stuff. The recipe says to use 4 TABLESPOONS of chilli oil, which sounded mad. I used two and it was way too hot to eat. Feel a bit sad as I love these noodles, I think maybe just a scant teaspoon next time! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Two recipes for my #cookbookcrusade this week! Granny Boyd's Biscuits by @nigellalawson from the gorgeous Sensational Chocolates book compiled by @paul_a_young. These were so ridiculously quick and easy to make and I'm so glad I discovered this recipe. #deepascookbookcrusade
Cauliflower shawarma from the @honeyandco cookbook for this week's instalment of #cookbookcrusade. Cooked in florets instead of whole to make for a quickie weeknight dinner. Stuffed into stupid shop bought pittas which fall apart when you look at them, and herby yoghurt, humous, radishes and fried onions. 👍 The baharat spice mix on the cauli is gorgeous, and the recipe made plenty for future dinners.
This week in my #cookbookcrusade. Tahini and garlic aubergines from #Sirocco by @sabrinaghayour with a chopped salad of radish, tomato, green beans, feta and dill. I should give @jmwlls credit because he cooked this 😘 Excellent #meatfreemonday dinner! 🍆
