If you want to increase the diversity of your microbiome, go out into nature and breathe. The airborne bacteria and fungi that are naturally found in clean natural environments is much more effective than taking a probiotic. -Dr. Zach Bush The Case for Organic now on thebeautyarcana.com. C A R B O N snowflake • When chemotherapy researcher and designer Dr. Zach Bush decided to make the shift away from traditional drug based therapies to nutrition driven healing most of his peers either turned against him or dismissed his 'hippy-dippy' brand of medicine outright. He didn't let that stop him • Having sensed that something must be wrong with our plants and therefore our soils he fervently began looking at the earth for answers. What he found gave goosebumps. Flipping through a lengthy paper on soil he came across an image. It was a microscopic look at common garden dirt and it's various forms of carbon. But these carbon molecules looked familiar. They looked exactly like the cancer medicine he had spent most of his career working on. At that point it dawned on him that dirt wasn't just dirt. It had a medicinal quality about it • Delving deeper he discovered that there were a million different variants of these molecules which he called carbon snowflakes. Each one was different from the next and it was exactly this biodiversity that made for a healthy soil • Sadly with the introduction of glyphosate in the 1970s most of this diversity has been eroded leading to a breakdown and thinning out of the communication network that lies in our soils • What does this mean for us? This means weaker soils, weaker plants, leaky guts and weaker more disease prone human populations • The important work of Dr. Bush and the case for eating #organic now on thebeautyarcana.com
A L K A L O I D S • a family of all important compounds that gives our plant food its medicinal quality. These magical, health giving and restorative compounds can be anti-depressive, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory just to name a few. They are what protect us from disease • Sadly with the introduction of Glyphosate in the 1970s and widespread use by the mid 1990s our food supply has been compromised. The production of these precious alkaloids are blocked by glyphosate resulting in plants that are for all intents and purposes, devoid of any medicine. • While Monsanto has been assuring us for years of the safety of its weed killer, health statistics since the 1990s show something different. Rates of chronic disease and cancer skyrocketed about the same time as glyphosate became the number one chemical used on our crops in North America. Coincidence? We think not. Going organic has never been more important. 🍅Read The Case for Organic now on thebeautyarcana.com Link in bio
V I C T O R Y gardens • during both world wars governments from the Allied nations asked their citizens to plant local or backyard gardens. The reason for this was many- to boost morale, increase fresh food supply needed to feed the troops and reduce dependence on the public food reservoirs. A vegetable garden for every home was the tag line of the day. Citizens responded en masse and by the end of WWII about a third of produce in the US was due to victory gardens. Eleanor Roosevelt even planted a garden on the White House lawn in 1943 • This gardening initiative would not last though and by the 1960s and the widespread use of NPK fertilizer the push for cheaper, commercial produce was well underway. Fast forward to the vegetables of today and we can see that they are a mere shadow of what they once were in terms of nutritional density. What has happened to our soils and our plants in the modern age and how it has contributed to our modern health crisis now on thebeautyarcana.com. #thecasefororganic
Our priorities in order.
The upside down.
L Y C O P E N E • the magic component within a tomato 🍅 that gives this fruit its vibrant red color. It is a carotenoid and photochemical as such is a potent and sought after free radical scavenger. It is an essential nutrient for sure and is said to play a role in the prevention of heart disease, breast and prostate cancers. Lycopene is found in cell membranes and is therefore necessary in the maintenance of cell integrity and function • Some higher end skin creams even add it to their formulations as it is great applied topically. These days however, a tomato is not really a tomato • Conventional tomatoes grown in substandard soils with little minerals or even with no soil at all (hydroponics) produce tomatoes that barely contain any lycopene at all compared to tomatoes produced in the 1950s • So as soils become more toxic and depleted the medicine has essentially been taken out of our food. L I F E • F O R C E • A Kirilan image of the humble mushroom. Kirilan photography is the technique of creating images using high voltage. Film is placed on top of a metal plate. The object to be photographed is then placed directly on top of the film. Voltage is briefly applied to the metal plate, creating an exposure. The developed film results in an image called a Kirilan photograph. • Kirilan images are believed to depict the energy field or aura surrounding all living things. This photography has been very effective in illustrating the true life force that resides within our food. When photos of conventional food and organic food (such as this mushroom) are placed side by side, the aura or energy emanating from the organic food is much more visible and stronger. We already knew that organic food tends to have more in terms of vital vitamins, minerals and enzymes we desperately need. Kirilan imagery just makes this a little more clear. ORAC: Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity or the measurement of antioxidant value in a food or product. A concept originally developed by the NIA (National institute on aging), orac values assign an antioxidant score to everything from fruits and vegetables to spices. High scores are of course awarded to brightly coloured beauty foods such as blueberries and superfoods such as chaga and turmeric. ORAC researchers suggest that increasing our daily intake between 3,000 to 5,000 ORAC units can have significant health benefits on blood plasma and tissue antioxidant capacity. • What's the benefit to be had from applying products with a high ORAC value directly on the skin? Magic. ✨ By doing so you are bypassing the digestive system and applying precious antioxidants directly to where you want them- the skin. @plantioxdants is one of the first brands to not only use ingredients with a high ORAC value but also list this directly on their packaging.
