Icelandic cliff or mermaid lagoon? Probably both. ✨
There's a reason why I'm vocal about injustices + inequality as if it's labeled across my head. Did Abraham Lincoln tell people to be loving and then retire to his house? Did Rosa Parks pray for equality in the back of the bus? Did Martin Luther King Jr. keep his thoughts on injustice to himself to remain politically correct, to make sure he didn't offend anyone in his congregation? Hell no. Sending out love into the world in tweets and Instagram captions is nice, but it's not doing your part to support our brothers and sisters. On the blog: I have 3 productive steps to take to eradicate today's social injustices. Did you know you could contact your government representatives via text in like 2 minutes?! We can do so much more than tweet about love. Bio link. PS - If I had an anti-racism hat like my feminist hat from @mysisterorg, I would wear one. Send me suggestions!)
I cannot wait for you to go for it. To jump, both feet first, into pursuing your dream, your idea, your goal. Because you will surprise yourself at what you can bring to life. You won't be able to help but take a step back and awe over what you fabricated into reality with all of your passion, dedication, and persistence. It will take work. Entrepreneurship isn't for the faint of heart. When I was a little girl, I dreamt of being a fashion designer, a magazine editor-in-chief, or a photographer (or the Queen of anywhere– but that's another story). I carried those dreams with me through every conflict, problem, mishap, ego-blow, and insecurity to get me to where I am today. I just spent the week directing a two-day photo shoot for a national fashion catalog, and I am still pinching myself that this is what I get to do. When the @tradesofhope Spring 2018 catalog releases in January, it will circulate to thousands upon thousands of people around the country. My very full self is proof that the persistence precedes the magic. Please, do not let your dream, idea, goal die with you. Someone needs what you will create!
Trades of Hope is featured on Darling today! I was so honored to do an interview about @tradesofhope with my dear friend @vbardega for @darling! It was so much fun + this communications major is an whole hearted supporter of @darling's media that matters. It is a privilege to be featured by them! Link to the article in my bio!
Can we be real for a moment? While I agree that resting is vital, there are some weeks where resting the way we’d like to rest just isn’t in the cards. To be honest, I didn’t really have a weekend. (Great news: I love my job!) The biggest project of our year begins tomorrow, our 2018 catalog photoshoot, at 6:00am. That means I spent the weekend solving issues that arose out of our control, making sure models where checked in at the hotel, and double + triple checking everything is ready for our 2 day long photo shoot. This begs the question: how can entrepreneurs and just generally hard working people get rest when sleeping it’s entirely an option and Netflix binging is off the table? I have learned to find other, stimulating things that give me rest. What are things that rest you mentally (even if for just 15-20 minutes) while your body can’t be resting? I’ve quickly learned to decide that I get rest from things like reading books about being a boss lady for 10 minutes, showering (gotta do it anyway), bellowing Taylor Swift while driving from place to place, and creatively deciding what I’m going to wear that day (again, gotta do it anyway). What strengthens your mental capacity before you can go back to getting those 7 hours of sleep every night? Even if you can’t take a nap or watch all of season 2 of Friends, what are active things that you can decide to use as your resting time?
