These last two weeks have been so. much. fun. I am so lucky and grateful that my job allows me to travel often, and work from almost anywhere. ✨ . I’m headed back home now, after the most amazing time up north with my dear sister and many friends. To avoid sinking into the sadness that this can bring, I’m choosing to breathe into the gratitude for everything that I was able to experience. Gosh I have so many amazing people in my life. I’m not sure how I got this lucky. 💫 . I would be lying if I said I wasn’t exhausted though. I’m ready to sleep in my own bed, get back to my routine, and have all of my things. I’m also SO ready to get back to work - helping you all feel happy, healthy + confident in your bodies. And most importantly, heard and supported. The power of sisterhood + community is so real. 👩❤️👩 . I am starting my Gut Health Guide to Happiness TODAY! I can’t wait to reconnect with my body, decrease inflammation from many late (and magical) night, delicious wine, lots of traveling, and less movement than I’m used to, diminish bloating, clear up a few pimples that have popped up, get rid of all brain fog, and thrive in my body again. I love this program. It feels like a damn hug for my whole being - brain, belly, and spirit. It also reminds me of my strength, and reconnects me to my power + intuition. My body can relax + heal without the irritants coming in, and I typically gain a lot of clarity. And of course, I’m doing it with all my ladies by my side. Sometimes I need the help getting through my own program! #noshame 😉 . FLU SHOT. 😷 . To get it or not to get it - let’s discuss. Here is my take on the topic: The research is...questionable. 💉 . A 2015 meta-review of the available literature on flu vaccines shows that 1. the vaccine has no effect on transmission, aka, it does not prevent people from getting the flu. 2. The Number Needed to Treat (NNT) for the vaccine to show benefit is 71, aka 71 people need to get the vaccine to prevent a flu infection in 1 person. 3. Most of the studies on the vaccine have been funded and conducted by the companies that make and sell the flu vaccine. No surprise there ❗️ . So, take this into consideration this flu season. This is NOT medical advice. This is me sharing information (what I always do/love doing)! Also, if you have a highly compromised immune system, i.e. cancer, autoimmune disease, fall in the elderly population, you may want to consider getting it just in case? 😊 . However, the key is to keep your immune system strong and kicking! How do you do this? • eat a healthy diet, Rich is leafy greens, berries, veggies, nuts, seeds, etc. 🌱 • avoid sugar + processed foods 🍭 • get vitamin d ☀️ • move your body daily 🏃🏼♀️ • manage your stress levels - meditate, deep breathing exercises, laugh with friends, smile more 🧘♀️ • s l e e p 💤 • drink water 💧 . Slow Sunday mornings. ✨ . Wind blowing. Sun shining. Birds chirping. And the sound of my feet hitting the earth with every step. Traditionally busy roads are quiet, with no cars in sight while most are still resting at home. It really is the simple things that bring the most joy. 🌟 . A gentle reminder to take it all in today. So often we get caught up in what everyone else is doing, that we forget to just look around. • . Do something to support yourself today - it could be going for a long walk, binge watching a favorite TV show, working on your side hustle, meal prepping for the week (shoutout to HAN’s 6 week challengers!), drinking coffee in bed - whatever it is for you, it’s good enough. You are good enough. ♥️
I N F L A M M A T I O N 🔥 . Let’s talk about it. Inflammation is triggered by the immune system in an attempt to protect the body, remove harmful stimuli, and begin the healing process. Initially, it’s actually a very good thing that sends healing to the distressed area. Isn’t the body amazing? ✨ . However, if it persists for a long time (chronic inflammation), it can create some serious issues - leaky gut, bloating, weight gain, eczema, migraines, hormonal issues, you name it! Inflammation can also mess with your digestive system, which, if gone unfixed, can lead to nutrient deficiencies. It just gets to be a big mess. 💥 . Thinking about going keto? I break it all down in my most recent article - benefits, risks, yes/no foods, etc. 🌱 . While I am not for wellness fads, the ketogenic diet is more than that. It was developed years ago to treat people with epilepsy and other neurological diseases. It can be an incredibly therapeutic diet if necessary. Many are using it for “fast fat loss” now. And for most - it will work! However, if you can’t S U S T A I N the diet, then there is no way it will work forever. 🤷🏼♀️ . There are also many different ways of doing it. There is so much more to healing than medication, supplements and surgery. It goes deeper than what we eat and how we exercise. It requires conscious attention, yet no force. It requires getting quiet and reconnecting - to intuition, to higher self, and to this earth. ✨ . I encourage you to take this Sunday to pause. Take a moment to be grateful. Get outside and feel the wind brush up against your skin. Feel that you are just one tiny being in this universe, while at the same time, deeply and divinely connected. Find pleasure in the simple wellness practices - feeling the sun on your skin, taking a walk, reading a book, drinking water, laughing with a loved one. We can make it so complicated sometimes (I am so included in this). My grandfather always says — life is simple; It isn’t always easy, but it’s simple. 🌟 . I had such a blast this past Saturday at @thefreshscoop’s #theflowmovement event. Connecting with the community, meeting new beautiful faces, and discussing health + wellness is what lights me up. So grateful to be able to speak to everyone that was able to make it out. And to be on the panel with these other amazing, intelligent, honest, raw, and real humans, ugh #blessup. I truly hope that everyone walked away with something valuable to take with them throughout this next chapter in their journey. 🙏🏼 .
