April is known as the “Month of the Military Child” with schools and military installations holding celebrations throughout the month inviting people to “purple up” in support of military children. Why purple? Purple is the combined color of all the military branches. Swaney Elementary celebrated their military families by inviting students and staff to wear purple today and held a cake reception for military families. Each military student also received a certificate for the sacrifice and role they play being a military dependent. Derby High School's AFJROTC Color Guard was also in attendance to present the colors and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Many schools around the district are holding various events throughout the month. #MonthoftheMilitaryChild
