As corny as it may be, @mileycyrus “it’s the climb” song has been stuck in my head all day! This journey I am on of self love and health and wellness is not for the faint of heart. Financial peace by paying off debts, post surgeries body transformations, Invisalign that hurts so damn bad and even working on my marriage... it’s all hard. It’s all a climb. But I’m not afraid of work and hard times. I was built in hard times. I promise I have failed more than succeeded. I’m going to climb this mountain and enjoy it. When I get to the top, I’ll look to the next highest one and start that climb too. Let fear wake you up, not impair you! The view is always better from the top!
First looks don’t always have to be reserved for your groom ladies, do a special first look with dad first. Just make sure make up sticks around because not only will you cry but I will be crying and need touch ups as well! #kiddingkinda #firstlookwithdad #firstlooks #noididntreallychopoffdadsfoot #instacroppingsucks
Being a professional photographer isn’t always filled with beauty and fun. It isn’t a quick or easy way to make money. Often, photography is isolating. Expensive, hard and limiting. Especially in the wedding industry. This isn’t to say that it isn’t my dream job and that I don’t love it more and more each day, it’s just to shed light on the “struggles” even the most “cool and fun” jobs can still present. When I’m not shooting, I’m alone. Blogging, Editing, location scouting, emails, education, reading/research. It’s lonely. Your friends ask you for discounts, your family invites you to events and tells you to bring your camera. Your husband sees you in the same spot in front of your lap top for 4 hours and wonders what you could possibly be doing. You come home tired and sore and people scoff at how taking pictures couldn’t really be that hard. It costs thousands a year to keep your gear and business running. Weekends are spent away from your friends, family and kids when those are THEIR only days off. You miss events, happy hours and trips. You never know which industry friends to trust or who will stab you in the back. You don’t know who will take advantage or truly want you to fail so they are ahead. You never want to appear over confident or overly vulnerable because owning a business doesn’t have room for either. You can never stop reinventing yourself AND your craft. You have to remain consistent, but not boring. Relevant and modern, but not deviate from your style or tribe. Exclusive, but inclusive. And then... at the end of this daily battle...be a friend and wife and daughter and mother and server of your community and others. So before you make a comment on why photographers charge what they do or spend hours alone or seem distant... try reaching out and telling them how great they are doing, invite them to events and don’t stop just because you assume they will say no. If they are your friends, LET them gift you with a discount if they can or want to... don’t ask or guilt them into it on the premise of friendship. #supportlocalartists #bekind #shopsmall #photographyislonely #loney #stressed #momboss #bossbabe #ceoprobs #businessownerstruggles #struggl
Big bridal party? No problem! Just make sure you have the space RAIN OR SHINE to shoot. More natural light and space the better. This was taken in steady rain but they were dry and smiling because we had a huge covered porch...me however, a little soggy! Lol
