#meetthefarmer Rebeccah, Theresa and Sarah We met the three of them during a group training on fertilizer application. Rebeccah, Sarah and Theresa are members of the oil palm farmers' association in Adum Dominase, Ghana. Rebeccah is a mother of 7 children and owns more acres of cocoa then oil palm. Theresa is a 52 year old farmer who owns about 5 acres (essentially oil palm) and works with just 1 other family member in the plantation. Sarah owns 2 plots of oil palm, 6 goats and 14 fowls. Rurality field staff went to her plantation to provide individual technical training on circle weeding. At the moment, cocoa is the activity which brings the main income to the household. #farmers #story #faces #womenofafrica #ghana #portrait #socialimpact #womenwhofarm
#meetthefarmer Chaisak Chaisak is a rubber farmer in Surat Thani. As a village head committee member, he has the ability to gather many local farmers. Chaisak is a well - respect man and everybody knows him. He was a bit suspicious of our presence in the village at the beginning, but after a while he decided to work with us. This 60 year old farmer has lost 150 latex trees due to a root fungus. Therefore, he would like to learn more about potential treatments and diversification strategies. Chaisak seems to have a lot of energy and to be able to adapt well to changes. #rubber #farmer #thailand #socialimpact #environment

#meetthefarmer Somyos Uncle Lek Uncle Lek is a farmer who took a significant risk, changing his production 15 years ago, when a storm destroyed his rubber plantation. He is now growing rambutans to sell to the international market and saves the very fresh fruits for the local market. This Thai farmer has several workers on his plantation, whom he provides accommodation for. However, Uncle Lek has a strong connection to his plantation and he is grateful for the bees' daily impact in fertilizing it. He has invested money in a pound for fish, a water system for the plantation, and recently a small restaurant next to his house. This agropreneur is now interested in organic farming, which will give a better taste to his fruits he says. #rurality #environment #farmer #entrepreneur #socent #socialimpact

#Repost @sylvain.renou ・・・ She is the first woman who had #triplets in the village of Amara, the #farmer I followed for a week in #ivorycoast.
#MeetTheFarmer Kofi who comes from a farming family in Dominase (Ghana). Did you know that smallholding #farmers produce #food for 70% of the world population? They are in the center of all societies. Let's value their work and empower them, so they can realise their vision.
#MeetTheFarmer Ama, whom we met at the palm oil farmer's meeting in Truebom #ghana. Many #farmers in her village harvest cassava or plantains in their plantation, to have an other source of income and save some money on #food they don't have to buy in the local market. The diversification of sources of values is a key challenge towards better resilience for smallholders. #rurality #farmers #palmoil #womenofafrica #womenwhofarm #goodforgood #socent #vsco #storytelling #portrait
#MeetTheFarmer Douglas. We met him at a palm oil farmers' meeting that we held in Dominase, Ghana. Smallholders gathered and talked about their individual and common challenges so we could better understand their situation. This week, we'll present several#farmers who showed some interest in being part of the #Rurality initiatives in #Ghana
#MeetTheFarmer Theresa is a woman farmer in Dominase (Ghana). She has a palm oil plantation and she came to the #Ruralitymeeting to see how our initiative could benefit her and her family. One of our goals is to help smallholders in being more resilient when they have to face unexpected impacts (#climatechange, pricedrop, disease in the plot,...).
#MeetTheFarmer Stephen is one of the 155 palm oil #farmers that we met in #Ghana.#Rurality field officers went to his plantation in Adum Banso to better understand his situation and challenges, before discussing together of an action plan. While they walk through the plot, they can already provide some technical support and advice. We call this exploration phase: the Rural Dynamics Diagnostic.
