More pics with some of the people who have supported me for the past 2-35 years! We did it! 💙💛💙💛
Today’s the day! I have earned my Master of Social Welfare degree from @uclaluskin! Thank you to the oh so many members of my village, near and far, who helped me get here. This degree is for me. This degree is for my Mom and my Brother, who are no longer here physically but who certainly inspired me on my path toward this degree. This degree is for my Grandpa Mago, a Latino WWII vet who attended a segregated elementary school in Chino where I grew up. I am my ancestors wildest dreams and owning that story and loving myself through that process is the bravest thing I have ever done! #uclamsw2018
One Preschool graduation down...one Masters graduation to go. So proud of her!!!! 👩🏽🎓👩🏽🎓❤️
Wearing orange today as a survivor of gun violence and a member of the @everytown Survivor Network. Over 14 years since my brother, Alex, was murdered. Only 19 years old. Miss him everyday especially looking ahead to my Masters graduation in two weeks. His death inspired me as a community organizer and will forever inspire me as a social worker. As a school social worker I can unfortunately relate to the experience of so many of my young students who have been impacted by gun violence. I DEMAND a change. ENOUGH lives lost. ENOUGH accidental shootings. ENOUGH neighborhood shootings. ENOUGH school shootings. ENOUGH suicides. #enough #enough #enough #wearorange
On Thursday I had the pleasure of speaking at the 2nd Annual LAUSD Social Emotional Learning Conference about the Impact of Social Media on Students Social Emotional Development. The presentation was based on my personal experience as a Mom, my professional experience as a school social worker, and my research experience as a graduate student. Definitely a dream come true in melding so much important learning. I am so passionate about this subject and presenting to a standing room only crowd of almost 100 LAUSD educators felt like a huge next step in my career. I also got to meet soon-to-be retired Lori Vollandt, LAUSD SEL Coordinator who has been responsible for implementing SEL in the second largest school district in the country for the past 25 years. So excited for what’s next! #20daystilgraduation #futuresocialworker #gradschoolmom #uclamsw PS: Thanks to @britt.woods_ for sitting in the front row and cheering me on! It was so nice to recognize a friendly face and fellow UCLA MSW alum 😃
Lucky is all I can say...on the best days and the hardest ones...these two...just 💕
Last week this sweet little princess turned 5! She is the definition of may she be but little she is FIERCE! This girl knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to say it. At the same time she has the biggest heart and expresses her feelings in the most thoughtful ways. Excited for what this year will bring for you my Lola! Love you like the UNIVERSE!
Happy 🐣 from these two amazing girlies! P.S. this iPhone X camera is no joke 📷❤️
