Across the country #UniversalCredit has been a disaster. Food bank use is through the roof and some families will be £200 a month worse off. The rollout starts in Redcar & Cleveland just before Christmas. Sign my petition to stop it: https://annaforredcar.org.uk/stop-universal-credit
Universal Credit is due to be rolled out in Redcar and Cleveland on November 28th, affecting 11,000 people. It has been a total disaster in the areas where it has already been fully introduced. Thousands have faced delays and food bank use is through the roof. Reports suggest that families with children will be up to £2,400 worse off. Today I called on the Minister to either guarantee families in our area will not lose out or to stop the rollout:
***Free rail travel for jobseekers in Redcar and Cleveland*** Jobseekers in Redcar and Cleveland are now able to apply for jobs further afield without the worry of travel costs. @Redcar.Cleveland has partnered with @NorthernRailway on a six-month trial scheme to provide job seekers with free train travel to attend job interviews in the region. For people who are out of work, the cost of transport just to get to an interview can be unaffordable when their limited income has to go on so many other things. This is a good initiative to bring down that barrier and as big local investment projects bring more jobs to our area, support like this will be crucial to make sure local people can make the most of the new jobs. The free rail offer is open to all job seekers in Redcar and Cleveland applying via the Council. They will receive a pass permitting one return journey on Northern Railway services between their home and their interview location on the date of their interview. The free tickets must be arranged in advance. To find out more, call 01642 444366 or email email@example.com.
Kinship carers are a crucial part of our care system. Their love and support keep families together, but it comes with big challenges, including emotional and financial pressures. Read more about it on my website, including on how we are trying to improve the system so that carers get the support they need. https://www.anna4redcar.org.uk/news/2018/10/12/kinship-care-week/ #KinshipCareWeek #Families #KinshipCare #Carers
It was great to welcome year 12 students from Heinrich-Böll-Gymnasium - a school in Redcar & Cleveland's twinned town in Germany, Troisdorf - to Parliament today. I'm pleased to be able to support this international partnership and we had a great discussion about a whole range of issues including politics, Brexit, and tackling poverty. I always enjoy welcoming our schools to Parliament so if you teach at a school in Redcar constituency and would like to bring your class please get in touch. My office can help arrange tours and put you in touch with the Education Service who have lots of resources.
