Happy Monday! If you're a photographer, I have 2 things coming your way. ▫️▫️#1) I'm hosting a webinar on Wednesday at 3:30PM PST about maximizing your social media workflow post-wedding. I'm taking you inside PhotoMechanic (a program) to show you exactly how I make the most of my time to get the maximum return! ▫️▫️ #2) Did you know I have a YouTube channel? Every Wednesday a new video goes live! To sign up for the webinar, and see my latest YouTube video, click the LINK IN PROFILE. 💕 Enjoy!
My favourite thing about travelling is the reminder we don’t matter very much. Our Canadian way of doing things isn’t the only way. Our world has 195 countries (I had to google this fact) - and we live in only one of them. There are 6909 languages in the world (again, thx Google) and unfortunately, I speak only one of them! ▫️▫️▫️ I love thinking about how at any point in my day, someone on the other side of the world is living their day in a completely different cultural context. I’m forever grateful for the countries I have seen - and how my faith has been strengthened by seeing Jesus outside of the “American Church.” (I would say “Canadian Church,” but it doesn’t tend to be a thing people put in air-quotes or talk about on the news in election season ‘cause we are a small slice of this population. 😂) Jesus doesn’t know any cultural bounds. I like how travel helps me see this. ▫️▫️▫️ Allllll of this being said, I recently read “The Year of Living Danishly” and adored every word. It was a fascinating look at Danish culture through a British couple’s first year living and working in the nation. It was a stimulating read I found myself looking forward to every evening! That’s all, happy weekend world! 💕🎉
A little black and white for this moody Vancouver weather. 💕 Also, I got a marketing email today from a wedding company that said, “It’s engagement seasonnnnnn!” (Without the extended N... I just love typing that way.) And I thought holy cow, they are right! It’s NOVEMBER! I got engaged in November. 💕 And it made me really happy and excited for all the holiday engagements soon to come. 😍
Here's the thing, people. A long time ago, I used to think my business would fall apart if I wasn't always on social media! (What a stressful way to live.) Now, I make an intentional decision to step away from the interwebz when I'm abroad. ▫️▫️▫️ Traveling without social media, whether that's volunteering in Uganda or road-tripping through the Maritimes provinces - has become really important to me. I know it's an illogical decision - Instagram LOVES travel, Instagram gives out all the LIKES for cool experiences around the globe. ▫️▫️▫️ But being 'connected' constantly... it affects me. Resetting by way of disconnection is life-giving. 💞 So, if you're anything like me and can fall into believing 'social media constantly = life and business success' lie, maybe you could take a step back. Start with weekends. You'll return refreshed. 💕 #jamiedelainephotography
I can’t lie, it’s not the easiest transition coming home to Canada after being in a developing nation. I feel ‘at home’ fairly easily while traveling (as long as Randy is by my side)—so I didn’t feel a huge longing to ‘be’ home. This makes settling back into normality a bit slower than I’d like. 💕 But at the end of my first workday back today, I’m grateful for a bit of the returned normalcy. Plus - outside, I'm in weather heaven - freezing, sunny, crisp. And inside, I'm admiring golden winter 4pm sunsets streaming through our white curtains, thankful for time to rest this past weekend and a shared heart & vision with my husband. 💕
My best friend. 💕 Home, after 17 days away in Uganda. Enjoyed it so much more than I even dreamed and immensely grateful for the chance to pause, disconnect, reframe our lives in a new cultural context, connect with new friends on our team. [Photo from an amazing safari on our last 2 days! We saw lions, elephants, cobs, water buffalo, warthogs + more 😍]
A new continent being added to the travel list tomorrow. We'll be in Uganda for the next 17 days - looking forward to experiencing a new culture & being challenged in my tiny view of the world once more. 💕
I love my best buddy @randylswatson. He's so patient + kind + teachable + soft + wise + puts up with *so* much junk from me at times. Hahaha. I wish you all knew him. 💕 [But then again, I don't, because he's busy enough, so the more people he knows, the more he's out of the house, so maybe you can just take my word for it. Ok bye.]
Two family sessions this week! Loving all the new work in this beautiful Fall weather. October wins, yet again! 💕🙌🏼🎉 See more of the latest 2 family sessions on the blog.
