What a privilege to be invited to Families of Color Seattle's Black Moms Group last Saturday! I led group members through my signature workshop, Self Care 101. In this space, we talked about what these moms dreamed of doing with time to themselves. One mom talked about how limiting her time in Facebook could lessen the anxiety she feels from the heartbreaking news cycle on her feed. Another mom committed to keeping work at work so she can come home and focus on her family. Another mom made action steps to dust off her meditation corner and check out an exercise class. If you are a mom under stress - and particularly the stress of being a minority in America - you need self care that works for you. I'd love to start the conversation with you. Please say hello and let me know how I can serve you!
Vintage screen time at the Living Computer Museum. 🙃📺 . How are you all today? Thank you so much for the congratulations and maternity denim recommendations on my last post! On Stories, I talk about ways I see overlap between moms of young kids and Asian American social workers (based on a conversation I had - not just out of the blue 😊). Both groups value putting others' needs first, tend to ignore their own needs, and feel guilty when they focus on themselves. Made me think about our cultural values - how some can be so beautiful, yet become stumbling blocks to caring for ourselves. #selfcare isn't selfish if it gives us energy to do the important work we need to in an empowered, sustainable way. I'm off IG 'til next Wed. 'See' you on the Brave Self Care newsletter? Link in bio! We're 270+ and growing.
I'm fasting from IG for Lent but I'm here for my Wednesday check-in. Hello! 👋 I've been refreshed by being away but missed communicating with you here! 2 questions: 1️⃣ Being off IG has made me think of ways I use technology for #selfcare. What apps, podcasts, or phone features do you use that make life better (not more distracted/discontent)? . 2️⃣ I'm starting week 16 of pregnancy and I MISS MY JEANS. Recs for maternity denim, anyone? Overall, I'm feeling better and have more energy than I did during 1st trimester. Excited for what self care lessons I can learn and share with you during this huge transition. I'm hopping off IG again but look forward to reading your comments next Wed! In the meantime, I'm focusing on writing the best-quality newsletters I can and hope to 'see' you there! (Link in bio.) Take care, friends!
