After ten days on the road, I played six shows, drove 2400 rainy miles through ten states, listened to the first three Harry Potter audiobooks, and enjoyed some of my favorite days of travelling and playing music I had ever experienced in my life. To everyone who came to a show, organized, hosted, let me sleep on their couch, pet their pet, bought me food, picked up a shirt, prayed, hugged, spoke, and listened, I am inexplicably humbled and blessed by your generosity and kindness.⠀ ⠀ I got to spend some quality time with an overwhelming number of old friends in most of the cities I visited, and each conversation regularly returned to a few subjects that I came to recognize as being needed to hear often in a short time span, becoming a clear sign that God wanted me to learn a truth and encouragement that would write a deep, lasting impression on my consciousness. I’ve been struggling chiefly over the last couple years with the roots of my identity that don't seem to fit in to what society tells me I need to be as a man. These conversations with my multi-state community validated and lifted me up beyond what my wildest imagination would allow itself to believe— to lean into the diversity I bring to the picture of humanity, to glory in and embrace the feminine as well as the masculine traits of my personality as something beautiful instead of shameful, and to celebrate the different angles of the image of God I reflect through my self expression. Where there is blooming, there must be nurturing. The world needs your whole self.⠀ ⠀ The songs taught me so much this time around in a way I just couldn’t have expected when I wrote them, and the shows were full of such attentive, present listeners that as the week went on the songs found a special rhythm I’ve only found when playing several dates in a row, and never to this degree. Show after show, I grew closer to the heart of the songs and was finally able to lock in, enjoy, and let go. ⠀ ⠀ I have so much I am grateful for through this whole experience. Tour will continue in the following months and I’m looking forward to see what it holds. With my whole heart-- thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
Got to spend some quality time yesterday with Chris at Farmland Studios in Nashville to record a few (secret) things and basically play for a while with all the amazing gear there. Always a sweet time with my friend.
Chattanooga, thank you for being such an inviting and present crowd. It’s always been one of my favorite cities to play in and this time around stood out as a favorite. @themailboxes especially played one of the gutsiest and impressive sets I’ve ever heard from them, and Company to Keep was a lyrical delight. This was the last show of this week and I’ll post a recap once I get home! ❤️🧜🏼♀️🚙 (📸 @jillian_ivey)
After all the growth and change I’ve gone through since leaving Maryville for college in 2010, I’m so grateful to be able to come back to my hometown and look back on the roots of where it all began in light of where I am now. Last night was a beautiful evening with old and new friends, solid convos, and a beautiful night of songs. House shows hold something special. My friend @heythisiskelsi put on a stellar set with @codygbarnhart and if you’re not already following what they’re doing, please do. On to Chattanooga tonight at 7:30 at @stonecupcafe!
Quintessential Asheville vibes last night at the diy basement venue deemed The Rabbit Hole. So grateful for places and people such as these, and to everyone who made out and made it happen. I’m headed over the Smokies soon to play another house show on this sunny evening in Maryville, TN! (message me for address) (first 📸 @avl_rev)
House show tonight in Asheville at 7PM! (message me for address) So excited to play in one of my favorite cities in the world for the first time.
It’s a beautiful day here in Carrboro, NC! Looking forward to playing a good long set tonight at @secondwindcarrboro at 9:30 then high-tailing it I’m over to Asheville in the morning.
So this is the only picture I took in DC (shots from the show to come!) since I've been busy with driving and being outside of cell service, but THANK YOU so much to @sofardc for being a such welcoming, sweet crowd on Sunday night. There's nothing like a pin-drop room in a new city to start the tour off in such a beautiful way. The band and I also had a slightly soggy but completely awesome time playing Cyntheanne Music Festival on Saturday night in Noblesville, IN! So grateful I get to do this. Thank you all for making this such a great tour *so far!* (hahaaa oh boy)⠀ ⠀ p.s. if you haven't treated yourself to a @sofarsounds experience, check out a chapter near you at ( www . sofarsounds . com / washington) . . . . . . . #sofarsounds #sofardc #dcmusic #livemusic #capitolhill #fugazi #saveusall #tour
