A few of the critters living in and on Sub Terra that I found yesterday during deinstallation. #ants #worms #prayingmantis . . . Sub Terra explores time as it is manifested by the invisible flow of water through earth’s circulatory system. The work involves excavating sections of earth and elevating them within a tiered scaffolding structure that collects and recycles rainwater. As water passes through the layers of soil, sediment, sand and clay, it is slowly filtered, eventually draining out over irregular shaped concrete columns, stacked vertically to form a network of exposed drains. #williamlamson #subterra #contemporaryart #time #concrete #sculpture #geology #geologic #installationart

Final works back from the plater, just in time to see them before I leave. Wedge / claw attachment / weight / pair of 10 sides Buckminster Fuller style nuts These two pieces I had seen at on my first visit to the junk yard, but at that time I kept the 14 sided work that I posted about a few weeks ago. bought and plated the 14 sided one on that visit. Two months later, I went back and remarkably, amid this massive pile of i beams, I was able to find them. #mysteryhardware #geodesic #copper #wedge

From measured volume to indefinite expansion For years I have loved the title from Robert Barry’s 1969 Inert Gas work, “From measured volume to infinite expansion”. Perhaps more than the performative gesture itself, which involved releasing tanks of Inert gases in the California desert, the words poetically describe the eventual entropic disintegration of all things. I made this piece for the constant breeze that enters the smallest window in Calder’s studio, travels through the room before exiting the windows on the east facing shady side of the building. Stacked one on top of the other, two concrete blocks close the ends of a 25 ft aluminum tube, creating a sealed ring of air through which this breeze constantly blows. I like the idea of this measured volume of air becoming an aperture, a starting point for a long breeze continuing through this room and then back out into the landscape for as long as the work is installed. #frommeasuredvolumetoinfiniteexpansion #frommeasuredvolumetoindefiniteexpansion #williamlamson #robertbarry #air #entropy

“I don’t want to read. I don’t want to write. I don’t want to do anything but be here. Doing something will take me away from being here. I want to make being here enough. Maybe its already enough. I wont have to invent enough. I’ll be here and I wont do anything and this place will be here, but I wont do anything to it. I’ll just let it be here. And maybe because I’m here and because the me in whats here makes what’s here different, maybe that will be enough, maybe that will be what I’m after. But I’m not sure. I’m not sure I’ll be able to perceive the difference. How will I perceive it? I need to find a way to make myself absolutely not here but still be able to be here to know the difference. I need to experience the difference between being here and not changing here, and being here and changing here.” An excerpt from Roni Horn’s “Making being here enough” I relate to this feeling almost every day. #ronihorn #makingbeinghereenough

This installation is a study for larger piece that involves irrigating salt blocks with a misting system designed to create a rainforest like atmosphere and then using the brine runoff as material to create a saltinated work elsewhere in the gallery that grows as the salt blocks slowly dissolve. At Atelier Calder, I am using this former chemical container as a display system, which itself contains an amazing oxidized topography. The reclamation place we bought it from signed it “Vendu Calder.” Come check it out! Open studio is Saturday June 22, 5-7pm #salt #installation #venducalder ____

I found 16 of these remarkable stones half buried under old pipes at a scrap yard in town auspiciously named Ville Perdue. They reminded me of Chinese scholar rocks, so I asked how much it would cost to buy them, and was told I could have them all for free. Before I had a chance to research what kind of rocks they are, I was flipping through the catalogue of the Prehistory show currently on view the @centrepompidou and I found this anonymous drawing detailing similar looking rocks called Silex. #silex #prehistory #villeperdue
