From our friends at @sweetaviation - a Fort Wayne-based flight school that also offers aircraft rentals and maintenance and is located in Smith Field Airport. They are hosting their annual Spring Open House this Saturday, June 2, from 9 AM to 12 PM. Free breakfast will be served until 11 AM, while supplies last. They’ll also have a free bounce house and other kids’ activities, including arts and crafts; discounted airplane and helicopter rides for just $30; distinctive military and service aircraft on display, including a 1950’s military trainer, the T-28 Trojan; and R.C. model demonstrations from Phil’s Hobby Shop. Sweet Aviation, which is owned by @sweetwatersound founder and President Chuck Surack, continues to experience sustained growth, continually adding to their staff and fleet to provide the best possible aircraft training and rental options. The latest addition to the Sweet Aviation fleet, which will be on display Saturday, is a Cirrus Vision SF-50, also known as a “Vision Jet.” According to Cirrus, it’s the world’s first single-engine personal jet, designed to be a relatively affordable and convenient alternative to traditional private jets. Sweet Aviation’s Vision Jet is just the 25th produced and one of very few available to the public for training and rental. The Spring Open House, taking place at Smith Field Airport is free and open to the public of all ages. Smith Field is located at 902 West Ludwig Road, in North Fort Wayne. More information about this event can be found on their website, by calling (260) 267-5505, or on the Sweet Aviation Facebook page. ______________________________________________ Press release and courtesy photos from Sweet Aviation.

Why Did You Stay Here? ———————————————————— “Apart from the fact that my immediate family lives here and I have a family of my own, I chose to stay in Fort Wayne after I graduated college, because I genuinely feel a connection to Fort Wayne and want to be part of its growth. Despite not being born in Fort Wayne, I consider myself a Fort Wayne native, having spent the majority of my life here. I’ve seen it transform into a dynamic city where relationships thrive and communities work together to build it up. I remember saying in one of my first interviews out of college that one of my career goals was to have a role in the development of Fort Wayne, and though I was unsure what that role might consist of, I was ready to take the leap and begin my path towards it. A unique feature of Fort Wayne, is the amount of truly talented young professionals who share a passion for improving the lives of those who call our city home. I think this is especially important for young people who are looking to make a difference as they begin their careers. I’m thankful to be here, because it means I don’t have to choose between having a family and pursuing my career and my goals. In Fort Wayne, I can do both, which is something I’m not sure I could do in other big, metropolitan cities. The affordability, career opportunities, and family friendly atmosphere of Fort Wayne is why I stayed here.” - Cassey Suthers, web and data specialist and volunteer for Living Fort Wayne.
Why Did You Stay Here? ————————————————————We asked one of our committee leaders, Alex Modarressi, that question in the first part of our new short-form vignette series. “A few years back I was debating with myself “Why would I choose to live here” and “Why would I choose to move”. What reasons should move for…. my career, better income, personal growth, or maybe a greater sense of belonging…? I felt was that if could answer why I would choose to live here or not might help answer what I should look for somewhere else. During this time, I found community experiences such as local art and culture had not been explored and that my lack of involvement would not be a reasonable enough to excuse for leaving the region or state. So I then started looking for ways to be involved and opening myself to opportunities to help our communities. This is when Living Fort Wayne and Wunderkammer started posting their need for volunteers. At first I started to attend events seeing needs that I could fulfill and started conversation about how to start being involved. One thing led to another and to me being involved with local organizations such as @youngleadersnei ,@rotaractfw, @pinehillscitychurch and others like @theclydetheatre and @fortwaynesoup.” - Alex Modarressi, IT System Engineer
