(Detail of today's work)....I love this itty-bitty blossom poking its head up over the edge:)
I was deeply grateful to be able to attend the Governors Artist Awards at the Governors Mansion May 4th. My former professor from BYU, Bruce Smith (who I absolutely adore!!!) received the award. It was a great evening!
Yay!!! Love being in the Spring Salon at the Springville Museum of Art and love my family!!
Wednesday, April 20th the 92nd Annual Spring Salon at Springville Museum Of Art opened!!(Runs through July 9). It was a night of many delights!! First, some of my family got to come! Second, I was deeply honored to have TWO paintings accepted into the exhibit. Third, I was one of the five paintings selected to be in the, Penny Vote by the front door. (The penny vote is a long-standing tradition that allows viewers to choose their favorite painting from five in the exhibit. My still-life, A Hug and a Kiss is in the penny vote)
Having fun with flowers from my friend's the Bank's yard. Planning future paintings. (It smells so good lilac-y good!)
My Cup Runneth Over. I have been painting this these last two weeks (throwing a Spring break in the middle) and sending progression photos to my daughters and grand daughter along the way. Now one of these daughters is going to have a baby in the next few hours. How appropriate that it happens today as I finish this painting. Truly, as it says in Psalms, my cup runneth over!!!!!!
Varnishing day. Somehow it makes the paintings happily finished.
This Saturday night, at the Provo RiverWoods shopping center where Zions Mercantile is located, the Ladies Night hosts me as the featured artist. What a blessing. Please come if you'd like. 6 to 8:30pm
Blossoms waiting to show their colors...(next time I Paint)
Three more paintings off to the gallery :-)
… there was this gorgeous apricot colored bush and this gorgeous phthalo turquoise blue bowl......I love Spring!
Two daughters. Two blossoms. Two different walks home from school. Wow these girls know how to bring a sweet present to their mother🌸
This painting is pretty close to done…, Hopeful Hydrangea. I am hopeful that someone close to me can find the answers and peace she needs.
Gessoing 10 new panels for 10 new painting adventures.
I am in awe of the courage of these three people to flee by night into Egypt.
… grateful it is coming along
I spent all day working on the night sky.
Here's a piece of the shirt I am painting. I want a shirt like this one🌿
Blobs of paint to begin. Three figures in a painting lit by a starry night sky!? OkayI totally don't know what I'm doing but I am over the moon, (no pun intended) to learn something new. 🌜✨
..trying to come up with a young Jesus that I like.
before the painting…the drawing begins...
I love the planning phase. I get very quiet. I think about what I want to say. I think about how in the world to compose it. And I begin.
Blue Friends (24x24 oil on panel) is the answer to that upside-down start over panel from my post a week ago. Ahhhh, now that feels better...
Watercoloring ornaments for the tree🖌
What do you do when you paint a really bad painting? Flip it upside down. Sand off the big paint marks. Start painting again. Pretty much like the rest of life.
Humor is alive in art! Freshly painted and hanging on my wall, Organic Creamsicle....just add ice.
I'm thankful for eyeballs. Look at this beautiful lettuce I am turning into a salad for Thanksgiving. I feel so happy.
Here is the painting Martha, Martha, that won. Here are my thoughts: Jesus Christ loves these two disciples Mary and Martha. He understands their hearts and their thoughts. Today too Christ knows that women often create an endless list of things to do. I am Mary. I am Martha. Often I am, “careful and troubled about many things.” The house must be cleaned and the children must be fed and that PTA meeting needs to be attended. But time must be carved out too for spiritual feeding. As Jesus Christ and Elder Dallin H. Oaks reminds us, “Good. Better. Best.”
I took all of my available daughters down to Springville Museum Of Art for the show opening of the 30th Annual Spiritual and Religious Show. There were over 400 entries into the show. I received, Honorable Mention, for the painting Martha, Martha. I was over the moon!🌛🌟
Highlight of my day!said Taylor. I have been promising my daughters oil painting lessons on Fridays. I kept my promise today. Today was under painting with a complementary color, and beginners paint mixing.
I am working to gather all I need so that my website can be updated. It is fun to go through older paintings. Here is one almost 10 years ago, Two Doves Down As The Moon Dawns.
I just said goodbye to my newest painting So Great Were the Blessings of the Lord Upon Us. (1 Nephi 17:2) It is now at the Springville Museum Of Art to be entered in the 30th Annual Spiritual and Religious Art Show. It is a comment on families. Nephi is here with his wife and children all working together in the wilderness.
This baby's green outfit was so not working with the rest of the painting. Here we go stating to paint the blue over the green. And I want to baby to be holding something.......
Lots and lots and lots of mixing today. Color is so satisfying. I just saw the sun hitting the fall bright trees against the very gray stormy background of today. Crazy deep coloring!!i
To me this is the juiciest part of painting! I get to add the dots and dashes of brights on the faces. (this means I probably only have one day left on this painting). Yum! (Detail of a painting of Nephi's family when he breaks/fixes his bow. Yet untitled.)
Detail of fabric in the painting I am working on… Looks like a modern painting my mother painted in 1968.
Two finished paintings. Ready to ship.
Just finished, Winking at the Wonderful Wallpaper (While Singing a Melodious Mozart Melody) but we can just call it, Winking at Wallpaper for short.
I love peach season. They are making it into my next painting :-)
Just finished… I think… Little Vase. It is a very, very little vase. The tiny flower is a single blossom from a large delphinium. Fun to paint on a greeny-greeny-blue-greeny table.
It's up!! Behold And Consider My latest show! I I'm so excited! Beautiful space! Beautiful art! I hope you can go! It is open. It comes down October 30. So Halloween is too late :-) It is at the Harold B Lee Library at BYU. (Basement floor Auditorium, next to Special Collections.)PS. This is a detail of Gold on Golden. Hope you al had the Very Best Summer💛💛💛💛!
I am just finishing up packing and loading my car with 12 paintings to take down to the Harold B Lee Library (Auditorium basement floor next to Special Collections exhibit). These two parts of paintings of ladies were overlapping each other. They are 10 years apart. It's interesting to see how my painting has changed a bit. It's also interesting to see how it's so much the same… See the fruit on the clothing? And,I do still love to paint strong women. Anyway, my one woman show in the HBLL called, BEHOLD AND CONSIDER, goes up today and comes down October 30. I'm so excited!
Getting ready for my show on March 20. 6 to 9 PM at David Ericson Fine Art if you can make it :-)
A piece of my new painting I think I just finished, Bringing Creation. Did I mention I love color…
Nope. It wasn't done. I had to add a little more juice in some places. (detail of He's a 1 Foot Balancing Wonder.)
He's a 1 Foot Balancing Wonder ...I think I finished it today :-)
I went down to see my painting in the BYU alumni show celebrating the 50 year anniversary of the Harris Fine Arts building at BYU tonight. Delightful!
It's finished! Every Good Gift....Cometh of Christ (Oil on panel)God gave us each good gifts; different, unique, small, bigger, brighter, quieter, bolder, barely noticeable…and every good gift comes from Christ. Bear your gift beautifully and share it with others.
Thanks Be To God For His Unspeakable Gift..... I just posted on my website about this Christmas Painting. (Linda Etherington Fine Art) Merry Christmas to Each and All of You. #ShareTheGift
Part of the title I was painting onto the painting today Every Good Gift. I had to post it because I like how it is painted but it just might be too much where it is located....so it might be wiped off next time I paint. Isn't oil painting great!!! Need something gone? Wipe it out or Paint Over it:)
The gift exchange between the birds is coming along.……
Yep, another bird finding its way into another painting.
This was the start--until it was one of those wipe it all off and start over moments. Next time.
Yep! Love those blooms!! Mary got a crown of paper whites--Joseph, not so lucky--but still a handsome guy.
I'm reworking a painting of pregnant Mary….I also have paperwhite bulbs that I forced and are just coming into bloom. I think the paper whites are going to make it into this painting. We shall see. :-)
