Changing from a leveled library to a library organized by themes has been one of the best decisions ever. My students have always loved to read, but this year they love it even more. They aren’t so focused on what they can and can’t read but on what they want to read. If the text is too difficult, another student can read it to them. They’ve also been much more engaged during read to self time. They are still getting practice with text on their level during guided reading. Our school uses the RCA House System, and we recently had our end of the nine weeks house celebration. Each related arts teacher and staff in different areas of our school give out awards. Our class won the library award, the golden lunch tray from the cafeteria, and the golden trash can award! We were blown away! To say that I’m proud of them is an understatement. 💛 Also, can we talk about the library award?! 😍😍😍 It’s huge and so adorable! It’s currently hanging outside our door for all to see. You can hear about some of the ways I encourage my students and build a strong community in stories tonight!
It’s time for these Creepy Carrots to make their appearance again, since it’s almost Halloween! I can’t tell you how much I LOVE this book. It’s hilarious and great for making predictions. I even used it with my kindergarteners back in the day. My resource includes these crafts, as well as a differentiated response to reading activity. HAUNTED HELPERS is a classroom management game that is designed to encourage students to help you and each other. They will want to keep everything organized and clean, as well as reach out to others when they see that someone needs help with something. It will for sure build community in your classroom! They get to add a ghost to the haunted house each time you catch them being helpful. The house has to be full by the end of the day for a reward. If not, they start over the next day. We LOVE the Cinderella story, The Rough-Face Girl. 💛 They were absolutely captivated by her story! We are comparing and contrasting different Cinderella stories from different cultures this week. Today, we compared that one to The Egyptian Cinderella, since one of our student’s family is from Egypt. We mapped the two stories on the anchor chart that you can see by swiping. We then moved the sticky notes from the anchor chart to the Venn diagram. This offered lots of support to those who still need it for comparing and contrasting. I plan on working to post some of my Interactive Read Alouds from this year over fall break next week. I’ll for sure include this one if you think it’s something you need!

Prepped and ready for text feature surgery in the morning! Such a simple and easy mini room transformation. 💙
I am in LOVE with this book! ❤️ @mysteryinsentencecity My students still have trouble remembering to add all the things to make a complete sentence. Anyone else’s? 🙋♀️ Officer Wiseman takes the class and their writing to Sentence City to help solve the mystery of what’s missing in their sentences. If you swipe, you can see the cute part about starting a sentence with a capital letter. My students were SO ENGAGED while we read this story. You can grab it tonight for only $9.99 in celebration of Punctuation Day! The sale ends tonight at midnight. I’ll add my aff link to my profile if you think your students would love it, too! https://www.amazon.com/dp/0578539225/?tag=thelemonade06-20

SECOND GRADE EXPLORERS! 🌎 We had such a fun Reading in Schools Day today! We learned all about maps and globes while practicing identifying main topic. We also had so many great volunteer readers in our classrooms. Now, I’m ready for the weekend! 😴
My favorite spot in our classroom. 💛 Tomorrow is Friday! 🙌 We are celebrating Reading in Schools Day in our district tomorrow. We get to dress as book characters. I can’t wait to share what our team is doing!
Let’s talk plants. 🌿🌵 A lot of you asked what kind of plants would be best for your classroom. You can’t go wrong with a snake plant! They need very little water and are super easy to care for. I found mine @homedepot. What are your favorite classroom plants?
I’m about to make Classroom Management Games for October and November. What are some behaviors or social emotional skills you would like to work on? Let me know in the comments! Tic Tac Tattle can be found in my August and September Classroom Management Games! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/August-and-September-Back-to-School-Classroom-Management-Games-4719343
Sorry to have not been posting and sharing as much this school year, but I’ve been drowning in this! 😫 Between changing grade levels, new grading rubrics, new report cards, new grading system, new essential standards, and new CFAs that have had to be made, I have just been consumed. I think things are beginning to slow down a little, so hopefully, I can get back to sharing again. So if you feel like this year has been a struggle, I’m right there with you! Thankfully, I have such a great group of kiddos and an amazing team to make this transition with. 💛
Using these has been one of the best ways to build classroom community! My bestie @theadventuresofmisselisabeth created these Student of the Week letters to go home with one student each week. I sent them home on Friday with an All About Me poster I purchased off Amazon. She includes some in the resource that you can also use. She has them for lots of themes, too. My student of the week would share throughout the week, which was perfect for those speaking and listening standards. 🙌 My students learned so much about one another, and they established such strong bonds between each other. I put a link to her resource in my profile! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Youre-On-Point-A-Cactus-Themed-Student-of-the-Week-Pack-3923393
