When there's good light and train tracks (not in service at that time!) it's hard to resist a photo shoot. I'm still surprised he agreed! My bait? A bike ride around the lake on his beloved Strider 🚴🏻 where it's super smooth and you can go fast! 😬🙈🏃🏻♀️🤰#ineedatripod #28weekspregnant
It's a crazy season for us this fall and sometimes it feels like we are rarely all home together. But thanks to the almost-3-year-old in the house who is full of some pretty great ideas, we are still squeezing in some quality family time. In September it was often running bases. Most evenings it's a family walk (run!) all together. On the weekends he finds the perfect spot for a backyard picnic (sometimes with play food sometimes with real food). Last night he suggested we enjoy milk and cookies by the natural area outside the co-op after our shop. 🍁🍪 ❤️😊 It often feels like the messages we receive about parenting these days focus on raising children into responsible, hardworking and kind adults (which is important work!) But more often than not I'm awed by everything the little ones have to teach us about living in the present, forgiveness and honesty. We may teach them how to be adults but they show us how to be good people. #littleteacher #dontrushchildhood #stopandeatsomecookies #letthembelittle
When grandma is in town we play in the woods and learn new words, namely: uffda! #scandinavianboy #childhoodunplugged #natureinthecity
So long grandma, hello fall! ✈️ 🍁🍂#90degreesonfriday 🙄 PS - does anyone know how to paint that white trim around the door window? It doesn't stick!
We followed the trail twisting through a restored oak savannah, running our hands through the tall grasses and flowers until we happened upon a little clearing that looked just right for a mid morning snack. What should we call this place? I asked. He didn't even pause before stating the obvious: Volkswagen 🤷🏻♀️🚗😂 #threeyearoldwisdom #henamedhisshoesthesame
My favorite moments of #bellyrama2017 morning yoga: the quiet before we begin save for the gentle clinking of the sailboats nearby; the balloons (and babies) dancing alongside the mamas resting on their mats; and when we all finally stand for the first time in a sun salutation and realize just how strong a group of women can be -- cheers to motherhood and this beautiful fall day! #bloomayoga #24weekspregnant
We've never had anyone show up right at 10am on a Wednesday they said as we stood there waiting for the first hayride of the day. 😂🚜🍎 Most years I resist fall and the changing season, not because I dislike it, I just hate to say goodbye to summer. I need that little nudge of changing temperatures and colors before I can jump in; it's like the natural world knows I need change before I do. But having a hayride-loving toddler has jump started my fall ambitions this year ... cheers to all the hayrides (and apple cider donuts) this season! #wellbebackthisweekend #hayrideaddict #applesaucefordinner
We made zucchini muffins today (thanks @pinchofyum) and when I brought them to the table to accompany our fancy scrambled egg dinner he said enthusiastically, this is a special treat! Let's light a candle! 😂🎉#thingsiwanttoremember #easilyimpressed #muffinsforthewin
Traffic jam in the lettuce patch! The raspberries and strawberries don't ever fully ripen (and it's not the 🐰 🐰) and the lettuce may not make it to a salad bowl but in the end, this ⬆️ is far more valuable. (Overheard: lines from one of our fav books, The Little Blue Truck ... can you guess what he was acting out?) #toddlergarden #childhoodunplugged
I've been sailing on a tall ship twice in my life. Once for five days in 8th grade from Mystic CT to Nantucket and back, and again in college for a longer two-week trip up around Nova Scotia and Maine. We took a short evening ride on one of those tourist cruise ships while in Boston last week, which of course wasn't the same, but it reminded me of that part of me still standing at the bow of a tall ships, watching the horizon and thinking big thoughts. ... maybe that's all nostalgia is? A yearning for that part of you left behind?
