Can I be a little controversial and honest with you guys? 🤔 I'm kind of sick of these kumbaya business mantras going around. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let's get real. 👊🏽 If you want to be successful, then you need to get your brand out there in front of people. 📣 People have to and need to know who you are. If they don't know who you are, you don't ❌ get business. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Doing that means you need to research 🔍, dig in, and try different strategies, both online and offline. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I've met people who claim that they don't have strategies and it just happens. Or they kumabya'd 🧘🏽♀️ their way to success. Or they can't really put a finger on it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And although I 100% believe that you need to have a positive attitude and that your thoughts 💭 shape your reality... I believe that WORK has to be done. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I didn't get the easy road in business. 🚧 Heck... neither did Oprah, or Jordan, or Tyler Perry. It took me YEARS to: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1 ✔️ Organically grow my Instagram followers 2 ✔️ Re-launch my studio with an actual team of people 3 ✔️ Get on the advisory boards of Google Small Business and GoDaddy 4 ✔️ Become financially stable enough for both spouses to work from home ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trust me, a pretty Instagram feed or a newsletter didn't do that. 👀 I still have to grind. And hustle... yes hustle. 💪🏽 I love that word because, for me, it's the truth of who I am. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have to send emails, DMs, make phone calls, study, read books and apply them, and I am still working hard every day to keep my dream alive. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For me, it's not a whim. 🌟 I didn't see success in my 1st year or my 2nd year. For me, it took time and consistency. And not being afraid to constantly put my business out there. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That didn't just happen without a plan. 📝 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So if you are a business owner who is feeling down, because everyone you ask for help is telling you to just be you, have a pretty brand, It just happened for me naturally ... then I'm here to tell you that yes that's true BUT some of us also have 👏🏽 to 👏🏽 HUSTLE 👏🏽 and that's life.
Finally!! 📣 I can announce something I am so excited about. I've partnered with 🏅award-winning Pro MUA & Licensed Esthetician @jaliadp to launch our own business and creative workshop series, 🧡 Beauty & Brains ---> @beautyandbrains.info! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We'll be traveling 🛫 the country starting Fall 2018 helping beauty professionals elevate their businesses and their brands. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Jalia and I are the perfect fit. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When it comes to 💄👠 beauty, fashion, and networking, she gets it done and is definitely boss goals. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She knows this industry inside and out and has been instrumental in coming up with our name and getting our workshop off the ground. ⠀⠀⠀ Which means I am able to focus on what I'm great at, branding, marketing, and strategy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's a match made in heaven, and I am incredibly grateful to have spent a few years getting to know her heart as well as have the opportunity to launch our own project together. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have goosebumps yall! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am so excited. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Follow us on Instagram @beautyandbrains.info
Currently planning my next trip in nature, to Havasu Falls 🌵☀️ next Spring to be exact, BECAUSE I honestly think the way we use social media and Google can slowly 🔪 kill our abilities to create. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You have to take a break to be your best. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I've completely changed the way I do business over the past two months, and results have been tremendous. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm literally in my office 👀 looking around like WHAAATT?? How was that in me? Where was it hiding?? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are struggling to find your authentic self in business I strongly suggest you give these 3 things a go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1- Mute your competition 🔇 --> IG and FB allow you to mute your competition while you are in creation mode. This doesn't mean unfollow them, just mute them so you can create content and be creative while not being influenced by what they are doing, or feel that pit of inadequacy when you see what they are creating. Then, turn them back on when you are ready to start back interacting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2 - Don't Google 🔍 --> When you are designing something, creating content, coming up with ideas, don't ask google anything or use Pinterest. Try it from your heart first, get inspo from nature, take walks, and create. Then come back during the final refining stages and if needed, look for inspo. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3 - Don't ask for feedback 👂🏾 --> I tell my clients all the time. Only you know what you and your business need. Asking friends, family, etc. will only cloud up your mind and mess up your creative judgment. Again once the creation process is done, or you are stuck, ask for help and feedback. But during those creation times, you should focus on the art of creating. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Using this method, I was able to relaunch my studio @studio.lavi and get 2 other projects off the ground that I TRULY feel is ME. Which I can't wait to announce!!! This uniqueness means I can hold my head high knowing no one else can offer what I am offering. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am finally living in my purpose and creating authentically. How about you?
Y'all -- some bittersweet news, ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After 7 years of running Tierra Wilson & Co -- and 17 years of graphic design, coding, and digital marketing, plus hundreds of clients, it's bittersweet, and exciting, to announce that I am removing my name from the agency we've built, and stepping away from the technical work. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The studio will be renamed Studio Lavi @studio.lavi and while my husband Anderson and I will 100% still be managing owners, the client work will be done by an experienced hand-picked team. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We are incredibly blessed that we were able to build something that can now stand alone! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's time for Anderson & I to move into sales, management and brand strategy roles. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When I turned 35 years old in April of this year, I looked up from my computer, and I realized that I was done. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was tired, I missed my family and my friends, and I had a creative block that wouldn't budge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am so very proud of what we built! But with one kid heading to college, and another starting 9th grade, it's time to grow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a result, we have begun to slowly phase ourselves out of the day to day design and coding. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Over the past 6 months, I have been working tirelessly to hire and re-launch my business as Studio Lavi - www.studiolavi.com - the same company but a different name that will house our legacy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lavi - is the Haitian Creole French word for life. This new brand is us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It combines our heritage in southern Lousiana, our love of the desert, and our obsession with helping others launch, or re-launch, the most beautiful businesses they can, right now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We are so excited to start the next leg of our journey, and we hope all of you will join us. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here's to the next 20 years! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mèsi pou lavi ou te ban mwen an, ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ xoxo Tierra
Did y'all have a productive Monday? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's HOT ☀️ but beautiful in the desert and my Monday has been great so far. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Well... the best decision I ever made for my business was taking Mondays off to only work on my brand and nothing else ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I encourage you to pick one day of the week to focus on your business! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It needs just as much attention as your clients and customers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here are some things you can do: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1 - Plan and schedule social media ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2 - Schedule promotional emails ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3 - Update SEO on your website ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4 - Detail your processes to make future hiring easier ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5 - Read and apply information from business books ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Your biz is like a relationship! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The more you put into it, the more it gives back to you. . . . . #nature #adventure #mountains #travel #mountain #outdoors #landscape #hike #explore #wanderlust #trekking #camping #naturelovers #bossbabe #womeninbusiness #girlpower #ladyboss #boss #bosslady #businesswoman #femaleentrepreneur #mompreneur #womenentrepreneur #businesswomen #womenentrepreneurs #womenempoweringwomen #womensupportingwomen #womeninbiz #successfulwomenrock #communityovercompetition
Ok! Awkward pose + going deep on this caption. Here we go. 9 real life things you didn't know about me. Do we have anything in common? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. I am a mom of 3 kids. We are a beautiful blended family. Our oldest is 17 and getting ready to graduate from high school. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. I married my best friend. Literally. It's just like the movies... you are still besties first, which makes for some hilarious moments and constant adventures. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Hip-hop or classical music plays all day every day in my office. It's complicated. I'm from the hood and the suburbs. I call this being sophistiratchet ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 4. I've been creating websites for 17 years. I can code HTML, CSS, and PHP. I started my studio 7 years ago. Big changes coming soon that I can't wait to announce. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 5. I am very clumsy and forgetful outside of business. I lose my phone, keys, etc often and I have no sense of direction. Everyone I know can speak on this. I'm trying to get better but my brain just doesn't click on stuff like that. Einstein couldn't find his way home either. I'm just saying. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 6. I was born and raised in south Louisiana and I miss Baton Rouge & New Orleans so much... but I love Phoenix way more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 7. The hardest thing I ever went through was losing my daughter Kamaria, at the end of the 2nd trimester of a healthy pregnancy. I had a condition called incompetent cervix. Basically, my cervix opened too early, which only occurs on 1 to 2% of all pregnancies. So having kids for me is a huge commitment. To have my biological son I had to get my cervix sewn closed, get ultrasounds every 2 weeks, go through 6 months of bed rest, and then get it unstitched near my due date with no anesthesia. Not fun but def worth it cuz ↓ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 8. My son Baby B is 7 years old, a miracle baby, and he is smarter than me. It freaks me out sometimes that I have to Google before answering his questions. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 9. I'm an active supporter of equal rights, especially for African Americans, women, and LGBTQIA. I have zero tolerance for racism of any kind against anyone. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A little glimpse of me behind the gram :)
📸 Double tap if constantly trying to capture content can turn into a chore... especially when you are determined to use your own images. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ One tip to keep it fun and not feel like you are wasting your life away behind screens is to capture and forget it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here's how it works. I capture images everywhere, using my phone or camera, I snap it and I put it away .... and enjoy the people and places around me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I don't edit on the spot. I don't try to post it. I don't take more than 1 glance at it. I capture and walk away. Only when I get home and it's time to post or I'm working on content do I look at images and edit them. The same works with stories. I use snapchat to record ....and I save to snapchat memories. Only when I get home do I go through my snaps and download to add to stories. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is what true work life integration means. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How do you stay in the moment while capturing content? Did this help you?
Thinking back on my trip to Barcelona, going through antiques in the market, learning about the people. That's the way I prefer to travel. Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s OK. The journey changes you; it should change you... You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind. - Anthony Bourdain @anthonybourdain RIP
Scared of poisonous snakes? 🐍🌵 You may want to skip reading my caption today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This is an actual picture my neighborhood... and this is just about where yesterday's situation took place. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A little backstory... It's reeeaaally hot right now. 🌡 Even for the desert, it's abnormally hot for early June. So much so that excessive heat warnings were issued in Phoenix this week. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yesterday my hubs, @andersonwilson27, was leaving our neighborhood when 2 guys frantically flagged him down, arms waving, pointing at a random rock on the side of the road. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Side note: Anderson must look like a rescuer because this happens often. 🙄 People run to him or ask for help all the time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Back to the frantic waving. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Rattlesnake!! They exclaimed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The scariest part? Even though it was literally right there, it took bae a few long minutes to spot it. But once he saw it? Mouth dropped. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ IT WAS HUGE Y'ALL. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Take both of your hands and make a circle with your fingers barely touching. Then slowly separate them about an inch. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ YEAP. HUGE RATTLESNAKE. 🐍🐍 This snake was eating better than all of us. 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then it starts to move. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We live on hole 1 in a golf course property next to South Mountain and this mutant snake decided it was too hot out here and it wanted a cooler place to chill. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So right then and there... it started heading straight for the golf course. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Towards Hole #1. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Pretty much angled towards my 😱 backyard. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's like he saw into our souls and knew where we lived and decided that was going to be his new home. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Anderson had the common sense to notify the golf course owner and get animal control involved... but guys, I'm officially side-eyeing every shady spot in my backyard for the rest of my life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I know it's hot. And I love nature. But I'm going to need all the super huge mutant rattlesnakes to stay on South Mountain, where at least I know to look out for them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cuz ain't nobody got time for that.
Mondays are for getting cute and drinking mimosas 🥂 ... cuz coffee just ain't gonna cut it today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm a little on edge this month because I'm in the middle of a big business decision... and I'm not sure if i'm ready to leap just yet. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'll be sharing all the details very soon. But until then... help me out. How do you make big decisions?
