𝘏𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘺 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘋𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭! The United Nations created this day in 2012 to recognize the rights of girls and the unique challenges they face around the world. These challenges include everything from gender-based violence and lack of educational opportunities to child marriage and laws and stereotypes that undermine gender equality. In celebration of the #DayoftheGirl, I thought I would share a few facts about the girl in this photo: 9-year-old me. 📝 She wanted to be an author and wrote novel-length stories in the style of her favorite Dear America series every day after school. 🌟 She also wanted to be an actress. (The red hair was courtesy of a community theater stint as little orphan Annie!) ❤️ She was so self-conscious of the broken blood vessel on her nose but hadn't yet started to count calories or nitpick all of her body's "flaws." 🇺🇸 She loved every bit of school but especially social studies and learning about American history. 🐈 She was already very much a cat person. Girls around the world are advocating for change in the areas of climate change, children's rights, and more. I encourage you to visit @unwomen to learn how we can help them in the fight for gender equality! And, if you wanted to share a fun fact about yourself as a child in the comments or even your own little kid photos, I wouldn't be mad about it. 😍
This mantra seemed fitting for October, both because it’s the beginning of a new year of my life and I’m currently prepping for NaNoWriMo! What words are you living by this month? Also, it’s not too late to grab my Preptober workbook and work toward your best NaNoWriMo yet! It’s completely free at the link in my bio: @tylervrhyde #nanowrimo #nanowrimo2020 #preptober #aspiringpreptober
𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘻𝘦𝘳𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘲𝘶𝘰𝘵𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳. I plan the posts you see here on my feed a week or so ahead of time, which means I had a great quote to share with you today. Unfortunately, I've decided it'll have to wait. Because this week has been 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡. Too much heartbreak, too much anger, too much genuine bafflement, too much laughter because if I don't laugh, I'll cry. So I'm doing the only thing I can do: 𝘐'𝘮 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴. I'm going to vote on November 3rd with the hope that the 42% of eligible voters who sat out the 2016 election will join us this year. I truly believe this will be a turning point for our nation, so if you're on the fence or this is your first time voting (congrats!), here's a quick and easy 1-2-3 for making your voice heard: 1. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞. Each state has its own process and deadlines, and the earliest voter registration deadlines are next week! Visit www.vote.org to check your registration even if you're sure you've registered already. 2. 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞. You can either request an absentee ballot, plan to vote early when your polling place won't be so crowded, or show up ready to go on Tuesday, November 3. Visit www.usa.gov/voter-id to check the ID requirements if you plan to vote in-person. 3. 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭! Remember, real change begins at the grassroots level. Be sure to look into your local officials and make informed decisions about how you vote up and down the ticket. You can Google the candidates that will appear on your specific ballot ahead of time. If you have any questions, hit me up in the comments or via DM. I don't know everything, but I'm willing to do some Googling for you if it will help you make the choice to take part in this year's election! #govote #getoutthevote #gotv #election2020 #vote2020
𝘈 𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘰 𝘢𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐 𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘢 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 💅🏻 I was incredibly excited for the #TargetStyle VoxBox from @Influenster because 1. the clean ingredients in the @Native toothpaste go perfectly with my new bamboo toothbrush, and 2. this adorable @VeraBradley razor and shave cream combo from @gillettevenus was just the push I needed to actually start shaving my legs again. #QuarantineProblems Here’s an honest review of each product I received: 🧴 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐲 + 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐬 𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 - I was really impressed by this shave cream’s latherability (assuming that’s even a word 🤷🏻♀️). Other shave creams I’ve used end up gunking up the razor blades; this stuff lathers like a champ, moisturizing your skin while helping the razor glide. Also it smells heavenly (a light, sweet floral that isn’t cloying), and it’s made 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 Shea butter and 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 dyes, parabens, sulfates, and all that nasty stuff found all too often in bath products. 🪒 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐲 + 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐆𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐑𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐫 - This baby has five blades for a super close shave. Do I really need to say more? Okay, I will. I love that the razor is surrounded by a shave bar to help moisturize your skin even more. The handle is not only beautiful but ergonomically grippable. 💋 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 - I’m a big fan of the Native brand, so getting to test this toothpaste was a no-brainer. Don’t let the charcoal color turn you off; it’s got a minty fresh taste and clean ingredients to detoxify and whiten your teeth! As my friend said when I told her about these products, if you were the kid who needed Mickey Mouse or Barbie on their toothpaste, you’d probably love this new collection from Target! Do you look for clean ingredients in your toiletries? Which better-for-you products should I try next? #GimmeMolar #VeraBradleyxVenusxTarget #complimentary
“Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick.” –J.R.R. Tolkien Happy birthday to the Bagginses! It's the first day of autumn 𝘢𝘯𝘥 Hobbit Day, so to say I'm ecstatic would be a rather large understatement. I love this quote from 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘰𝘣𝘣𝘪𝘵 because it perfectly encapsulates why I always identified with hobbits as a kid reading 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴: live in a cozy hole in the ground, spend your days communing with nature, maybe have an adventure or two in your free time. 🏔🍃🌾🗡 #HobbitDay Did you ever read about a character or group of people in a book and think "Yep, I'd change places with them in a heartbeat?" Tell me who in the comments! 👇🏻👇🏻
Hello, friends! I hope everyone's had a lovely weekend. It's been quiet and peaceful here plus it finally feels like fall, so I have zero complaints. 🍂🎃🍁 It's still pretty terrifying to put any unedited writing up publicly, even in short, little snippets, but I thought this was the perfect opportunity to introduce the story I'll be working on for #NaNoWriMo 2020 and therefore this Preptober! A few years ago, I started writing a story about a girl in a dystopian future who discovers she can time travel. I worked on it during NaNoWriMo 2016 (and won!), but despite all my editing and massaging and begging it to behave, I don't think the story was ready to be written. So, I backed up my Scrivener project and told myself I'd revisit it when the time felt right. Fast forward to this year, and I'm hoping that time is now. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I'll be using my #Preptober workbook 📓 to help me prepare the new story for November (Get your own free copy at the link in my bio: @tylervrhyde), and then begin rewriting from scratch during National Novel Writing Month. If you're taking part in #NaNoWriMo2020, leave your NaNo username below, and I’ll send you a friend request! #FictionLineUp
OH HEY, CINCINNATI. 👋🏻 I've been downtown exactly twice since March when I started working remotely, which is just the strangest thing. I've missed all the beautiful blooms down at The Banks, walks to @brownbearbakery with @cybellini and @haleygoetz_, summer Friday trips to @graeters with the team... I even find myself longing for a morning bus ride now that the weather is starting to slide firmly into autumn. Following the river along Columbia Parkway on a fall morning is *chef's kiss* It can be so easy to focus on the negatives of life as we know it now. I definitely fall into the abyss of politics and vaccines and cabin fever as much as the next person. In the spirit of positivity, though, I want to challenge you to share three good things about this week so far. Big or small, everything and anything counts! I'll start: 💻 The Zoom chat I had with my siblings and some of our cousins on Monday 📝 Finally launching my #preptober workbook this week (check it out at the link in my bio!) 🍂 The most gorgeous morning walk I took with @mollydbecker this morning Leave your positives below👇🏻, and here’s to a weekend filled with only good things!
ARE YOU READY TO SHOW NANOWRIMO WHO'S BOSS? 📝 After a few years of winning (and occasionally losing, too), I've come up with the perfect way to prep for National Novel Writing Month without completely stifling my creative brain. And I've put it all into a month-long "Preptober" workbook that 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦! My method takes you through 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐏𝐥𝐨𝐭, and 𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 before tying it all together just in time for the beginning of November. It'll take about 10 minutes each day in October, and you'll finish the workbook feeling confident and ready to tackle 50,000 words in 30 days! I'll share my own experiences throughout October using #aspiringpreptober, and I'd love for you to join me. Sound like something you've been looking for? Visit the link in my bio (@tylervrhyde) and snag a free workbook. Whether this is your first NaNoWriMo or you're a seasoned veteran, there's something in my Preptober workbook for you! And don't forget to tag a writer friend who's joining you for NaNoWriMo 2020. The month is always better with friends!
Sending love to the veterans, the first responders, the active duty military personnel, the essential workers, the gone but never forgottens, and all their loved ones today. They are the brave ones keeping us free, and I hope we’ll keep them all in mind and VOTE in 52 short-long days. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 #neverforget
HOW ARE YOU CELEBRATING NATIONAL READ A BOOK DAY? 📚 I thought I'd share a photo of my very ambitious trb pile for September. It's ambitious because I'm typically more of a one-book-a-week kind of gal. 𝘉𝘶𝘵, I really enjoyed all the reading I did in August, so I'm hoping to carry that momentum through to the end of the year! Here's a peek at what I'm looking to read this month: 👻 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 by Maureen Johnson - hoping to finish this one up today 🖤 𝘔𝘦 & 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘺 by Layla F. Saad - reading and journaling through each day 🦌 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘰𝘯𝘦 by Leigh Bardugo - must finish this series before the Netflix show comes out! loaned to me by @mollydbecker 👽 𝘋𝘢𝘸𝘯 by Octavia E. Butler - loaned to me by @ian_van_riper 🇮🇪 𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘭 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 by Sally Rooney - another that I need to finish so I can watch the series on Hulu! loaned to me by @corrieloeffler 🧜♀️ 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘩 by Adalyn Grace - an impulse buy from last month that I’m excited to read What's one book you plan to read in September? Does 6 books seem ambitious or easy breezy to you? #readabookday
We're heading into a three-day weekend, so it only seems right to share my #monthlymantra for September! This intention really spoke to me because for the past two weeks, I've honestly found it difficult to focus on the positives instead of fixating on every. single. negative. So for September, I'm taking back control of my brain and am only putting good thoughts out into the universe! For the long weekend, I plan to manifest the chillest vibes, mental space for a little project I'm unveiling later this month, and maybe a homemade tiramisu. What are your plans for the long Labor Day weekend? There are no wrong answers!🍹🏖🛁 #dailymantra #fearlessmotivation #motivationalquotes #consistencyiskey #motivationmindset #quoteoftheday #inspirationalquote #inspirationalwords #lifequotestagram #lifesayings #worldofwords #dobetterbebetter #successmantra #growthquotes #motivatedaily #thegoodquotes #wisewordsoftheday #quotesforyou #dothework #wisewords #quotestagram #createchange #betterfuture #bethedifference #changetheworld #positivevibes #smallblogsociety #creativebloggers #ipreview via @preview.app
Yesterday, I celebrated six years with the Scripps National Spelling Bee. And what a year it's been! Considering everything that did and didn’t happen, I think my biggest accomplishment has been keeping this gorgeous prayer plant alive since @corrieloeffler gave it to me to commemorate last year’s anniversary. 😉 Since the Bee is all about words 𝘢𝘯𝘥 it’s #BackToHogwarts week, here’s my best attempt at a little Dumbledore imitation to describe the past year: Bonhomie! Canceled! Newbees! Zoom!
