Halloween treadmill run without any scares. This is how it's supposed to be! There has been several times in the last few weeks that I wanted to quit.

It's frustrating to not be able to do what you know you should be able to do. When it feels like your body is just not cooperating. I'm so thankful that I didn't quit & this weekend I'm going to enjoy the half marathon!

  • Easing back into things after my 3-day supported fast earlier this week with High Fat Coffee for breakfast.
...
I typically intermittent fast and have black coffee at breakfast, but the protocol I'm following calls for a break during this period. I forgot how creamy these coffees can be!! 💓☕ (Especially satisfying after a run & core work this morning.)

  • 🧘Yin vs Yang: Do you think about this for your weekly workouts?
...
This Chinese philosophy is how opposite forces are complementary and benefit each other when in balance. Most of the workouts we think of would be yang (action/doing) -- running, strength training, cycling. So it's important to include yin movements in your week (receiving/being).
...
I've been more conscious of this in the past year and have noticed a lot more balance as a result. Yin yoga feels amazing in my body and really balances out all the work my body (and mind) goes through each week. I'll also apply one of my favorite yoga oils before class to make my practice even better!
...
A few other Yin-dominant practices you can consider: prayer, meditation, & massage. Incorporating these into your routine can have big impacts!

  • Taper is underway for my upcoming half marathon & I'm taking advantage of the downtime to reset things a bit with a 3-day supported fast. For these three days I'm focusing more on me - focusing on gentle movement (hello yin yoga!), lots of water, and bone broth at the end of each day.
...
It might seem like odd timing with my sub-par running these last few weeks, but I think this may be exactly what my body needs right now. To be clear -- this is NOT a quick-fix weight loss approach. Instead, the benefits are around metabolic flexibility, increased energy, hormone reset, and immune system boost (autophagy).
...
As with all things nutrition -- fasting is NOT for everyone, so please work with a nutrition coach before trying this on your own. It may or may not be the right approach for you. :)
