I’ve got my watercolors out, that must mean one thing... @closetcase.patterns has got a new pattern in the works! Get excited! P.S. if you didn’t already know, I have the pleasure of doing the envelope illustrations for all of Heather’s printed patterns. It’s one of my favorite things to do! #illustration #watercolor #sewingpatterns #indiepatterns #thesewingcommunityrocks #palette #paletteselfie

Depth check!! Squats from this morning 😊 I was working sets of 8. A little while ago I scaled waaaaaay back on my squats - both frequency and weight. I wasn’t really progressing anymore and I had issues with my form I couldn’t ignore. Specifically, I wanted to stop my knees from caving in when ‘coming out of the hole,’ or, as I like to call it, “doing the stanky leg”! To fix this I really worked on incorporating hip abduction movements which strengthens the outer glute and thigh. I’m pleased to say my stanky leg is much better! Now I’d like to make sure I’m dropping just a *smidgen* lower. I aim to hit 90 degrees or a touch lower. These look pretty good, but... I’m never totally satisfied! Ha! #squats #womenwholift #liftingweightsiscool #legday #nomorestankyleg #depthcheck
I just learned that #sideprofileselfie is a thing! And as the owner of a bigger-than-average shnoz I had to post my own! No one ever talks about big noses! I always feel like people meet my nose before they meet me 😂 it’s a very defining feature. This is my “bad side” - not only is my nostril crease deeper and more elongated on this side, but I also have a scar next to my eye that I’ve had since I was a toddler that pulls the corner of my eye down, giving me a sad look. I’ve never considered plastic surgery, and probably wouldn’t do it even if I had the funds. I come from big-nosed people. We used to have contests around the dinner table about how many quarters - yes, as in the 25 cent coin - we could fit in our nostrils! 😂 You almost never see women with big noses presented in a desirable way, but I’ve always preferred to align myself with witches anyway. #bignosegirl #bignosethoughts #howmanyquarterscanyoufitinthere #shnozzle #shnoz Do you guys have a defining feature that you’re slightly embarrassed of but also, maybe, kinda proud of, too?
I bought this dress because I love the fabric, and it was on super sale so I figured even if I could find this fabric to buy I still probably couldn’t make it for this price. I greatly dislike buying clothes, but I wanted a pick-me-up and this print felt like it could do that. But, good lord, I am unbelievably picky about store-bought clothing! I can’t stop thinking about how I wish the shoulder seam sat a little higher, and I wish the armhole was smaller, and wouldn’t it be better if the sleeves were really wide? Or maybe a cuff with a cute covered button? Wouldn’t a wider wrap be more flattering at the waist? The list goes on. I honestly don’t think I’m this critical of my me-made clothes! Does anyone else feel this way? I just wanted to wear this dress and feel good in it, not speculate on armhole depth! #thesewistscurse
Corset Update! This is my first muslin attempt after tracing/rubbing off my @timelesstrends Gemini under-bust corset and extending it to mid-bust (see the last corset post to know what I’m referring to). Two major issues: 1) The whole thing is twisted! I’m not quite sure if this is due to the selvedge denim I used for the mock-up, an error in my drafting, or an error in my sewing. Since it’s all twisting the same way I’m thinking it’s due to the twill weave of the fabric (similar to how you might get leg twist when sewing a pair of jeans), but I’m not sure. Thoughts?? 2) It’s too big. It’s all closed in the back, and I’m not getting much waist reduction (about 1 inch, if that) which makes the excessive hip flare of this design look loose. Again, I’m not sure if this is because this denim has more give in it than a coutil, or if it’s a drafting error. Either way I think I need to lose about 1 1/2 inches per side, for 3 inches total. But the good news is that I don’t totally hate it! The bust fits comfortably, though I think it could use some reshaping to make it more rounded. And I think with some tweaks to the shape and seamlines I could have something that’s getting close to the dramatic shape I’m after, while still being comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Overall, not a bad first attempt. If anyone has any advice on this twisting issue, or thoughts on fitting or tweaks to make to achieve a more historical silhouette, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment!! . . . #corsetmaking #corsetmuslin #historicalsewing #victoriancorset #victorianaf #sewing #historicalcostume
Busted out some hip thrusts on Valentines Day! This is one of my all time favorite exercises. It mainly targets the glutes, but also works hamstrings and quads. In my opinion, it’s an essential movement for building lower body strength (and a nice tush)! The heavier, the better. I did 3 sets of 12 at 185lbs, with the last few reps being really difficult. And yes, I sometimes make noises when I lift! But if your buns were burning as much as mine were, you’d have trouble staying quiet too! I like to superset these with stiff leg deadlifts, just to be really obnoxious. #hipthrust #thethrustisamust #girlswholift #womenwholift #liftheavy
Spoils from the GAR hive! I’m probably biased, but this was the best damn honey I’ve ever tasted. I *might* have given myself a stomach ache from eating so much of it 😬 #ifeellikewinniethepooh #galvestonartistresidency #beekeeping #warrehive #bees #combhoney #localhoney Thank you @beachtrul for the photos!
🐝💛🖤🐝🖤💛🐝 Our bees have been busy! We’ve basically been letting them do their thing this winter and they have crammed the hive full of comb! We gave them a new box to move into today, as well as stole some of their comb and delicious honey! #beekeeping #warrehive #galvestonbeekeepers #justanotherdayatwork #garbees #galvestonartistresidency #🐝 #ilovebees #tryingnottohugthem Thank you @beachtrul for the photos!
