A little hair update after one week of experimenting with the #curlygirlmethod (I swear I’ll post about something besides my hair soon!) The right picture was after my first wash, completely curly girl method (CGM) and the left is from today, after my 3rd wash. I’m using the #devacurl low poo delight and one conditioner for cleansing and moisturizing - and I’ve been working on my #squishtocondish skills! I’ve tried different amounts and layers of styling products out of those that I have - which is the deva curl wave maker, #moptop curl custard, and #aussieinstantfreeze gel. So far the mop top is a consistent favorite. I’ve been diffusing my hair to dry more than letting it air dry because my hair is so long that it gets weighed down easily and I find the diffuser helps with volume, although I think there might be a sweet spot of diffusing and air drying that I haven’t found yet, because too much diffusing can also make my waves get all kinked and weird looking! Also I need to find a way to style my hair that doesn’t make it appear as if a portal is opening up on the back of my head!! 😂! I find scrunching out the crunch (SOTC) to be one of the most satisfying parts of my beauty routine, and am often impatient to do it. I struggle with refreshing my hair after sleeping on it and have found that wetting with water and lightly diffusing again solves any flat spots, but 2nd and 3rd day hair get exponentially more frizzy and crazy looking. So far I’ve been washing on the 4th day, which is actually more frequent than what I was accustomed to, since I’ve been avoiding my beloved dry shampoo - although I’ve received some recs for alcohol free dry shampoo that I will for sure be looking into! But my hair is super shiny and soft, and I feel like my waves are looking better already! Best of all, for me, my hair is way less tangled and rats-nesty, which has always been my hair nemesis! I’m definitely going to keep this up and am hopeful that my hair might actual develop more waves and even curls overtime, which is really what sold me on the CGM! 🤞
Hey guys! I wrote a post about this @byhandlondon #sabrinadress for the #moodsewingnetwork Link is in my bio if you care to give it a read! I’ve already started on another version of this dress because I’ve worn this one so often since finishing it a week or so ago! #moodfabrics @moodfabrics #byhandlondon #byhandlondonsabrina #summersewing #sewingblogger #sewing #handmade #imakemyclothes
WOW! You guys have a lot of great advice for a wavy haired gal!! Thank you so much to everyone who left a comment on my hair post yesterday! You sent me down a deep rabbit hole of product recommendations and video tutorials! 😂 I looked into the #curlygirlmethod and am super inspired by all the before and after pictures where people developed waves and curls they never even knew they had! I’m also a wee bit intimidated because it looks like it would require a total product (and lifestyle, ha!) overhaul! But anyway, thank you! I am now considering buying gel for the first time in my life! #wavyhair #hairadvice
I NEED HAIR HELP! Dear friends of Instagram, this is my hair’s natural texture. I would not describe it as curly, but it tends to fall in long, loose, rope-y twists. When my hair is shorter or has more layers the texture is more pronounced than it is when it is long, and basically one length like it is now. My problem is this, I think this texture is pretty, but it tends to fall flat quickly, and can feel frizzy and dry, and I feel like I loose definition quickly and rather than looking like someone with natural waves, it just looks fuzzy and tangled. Is there a product or technique out there that can give me some life? I’m looking for defined, moisturized texture that holds and gives volume and isn’t so heavy that it makes my fine hair fall limp. I’d also love a product I could put on dry hair to wake it back up on the second (or third, or fourth...) day. I realize I might be asking for a unicorn, but I really don’t know much about hairstyling, and I’d be interested to hear your thoughts! How can I coax my sad, lifeless waves to stick around for more than an hour? #hairhelp #hairhelpneeded #idontknowwhattodotomyhair
Not a very exciting photo, I know, but it’s pretty rare that I make a pattern more than once (too many shiny new patterns coming out all the time!) let alone back to back! This is take 2 on the @byhandlondon #sabrinadress which will feature a few personalized twists. I already wore the other version a total of 5x’s since finishing it just over a week ago, which means it’ll probably need washing and pressing before I (maybe? Hopefully?) take blog photos later this week! When a garment just fits your lifestyle, climate and current style tastes perfectly, it’d be a shame to only make one! #musingsofastitcher #wip #behindtheseams
#beforeandafter This color ended up being a bit of a process, and, I’m not going to lie, I’m not crazy about it. After washing out my Overtone and Colorista concoction last night I really wasn’t into the color. It was way more “Baltimore Ravens” purple than what I was aiming for! So this morning I made the executive decision to hop into a hot shower where I vigorously washed my hair, then poured a palmful of regular white conditioner into my hands with a couple squeezes of the Overtone vibrant pink daily conditioner and slapped that haphazardly through my hair. The result is what you see here - a slightly warmer toned, hard to define, purple lilac color. In my opinion it looks much murkier in real life, and I’m fairly certain it’s going to turn gray as it fades, which isn’t my cup of tea. But! Good thing it’s only temporary! I decided to rock it HARD today by wearing a #memade dress in a nearly identical color. Go big or go home folks! #overtonecolor #lorealcolorista #diyfashioncolors #athomehaircolor #hairmadscientist #forevermessingwithmyhair
Recently got my blonde touched up, and I told myself I was going to just enjoy being a fresh blonde for the summer. But all I could think about was how my brighter hair would take to some #overtonecolor 💜💕 Didn’t really have a plan for this so just used whatever I had left in my bathroom - some Overtone pastel pink and purple, and also some L’Oréal Colorista pink and purple. Ran out of the Overtone after doing the back half of my head and in desperation squeezed every last drop out of whatever L’Oréal I could find to cover the front. Tried to smoosh it all together as best as I could to blend, but... 🤷♀️ Here’s hoping I don’t look like a crazy person! #temporaryhaircolor #athomehaircolor #fashioncolor #dustyorchid #overtonedustyorchid
Just two little thread tails to weave in on this beauty and she’s done! I might give it another wet-blocking to shape the neckline as well. I mean, it’s not like I’m in any rush to wear it, seeing as it was near 100 degrees today! 😂 #dividepullover #btinthewild #brooklyntweed #finishingsweatersinsummer #summerknitting #knitting Pattern by: @the_other_emily Pattern available from @brooklyntweed Yarn is #brooklyntweedarbor

I don’t think I’ve ever shared our wedding photos before, so indulge me while I’m feeling sentimental! Here’s a full-length view of my dress. I still think this dress was very pretty. I had taught myself to sew by this point but was much too intimidated to tackle a wedding dress. I remember feeling really lost about what to do for my dress and was thinking I’d just order something from Etsy when my sister and mom basically strong-armed me into going wedding dress shopping with them while I was home visiting one summer. After trying on a few really laughably “not-me” dresses in the very first bridal boutique we went to my mom and sister both mentioned that they always thought my style was more “old-fashioned”. I saw something click with the sales lady and she came back with this dress. In my size. Deciding on my dress was actually the easiest part of planning my wedding! 😂 I love the lace overlay, cap sleeve and v-neck and the godets that give it that 30’s shape. I honestly think if I had to do my wedding over I’d probably keep this dress. Oh, and I’d keep the groom too.
