• I think it’s fair to say this weekends weather has been cracking,

Here it is 17.40 Sunday afternoon late February and I’m still sat outside, without a coat,

As it was forecast to be dry I took advantage and thought it would be a good chance to cook on the stove, so tonight we have Lamb Shanks, with sweet potatoes, cooked in garlic and chilli, along with carrots and sliced onions, so far all looking good 👍

  • Arrived this week at Lost World HQ.

After watching a lot of You Tube channels it seems these Mr buddy heaters are in most peoples kit over in America,

Not widely available in the UK I found a supplier in America and imported one,

First impressions are it seems very well made and has a low oxygen safety cut out valve, which no other I’ve seen have, also a tip over cut out valve,

They do a smaller and a larger one but probably this throws of enough heat even on the low setting,

They use the 1lb self sealing gas bottle but ialso can use the EN417 fitting bottles with the converter valve as shown in the photos, there easier to come by in the UK

Now just need to be allowed to go camping 🙄

Safety
Even with a cut out valve I wouldn’t run this thru the night whilst sleeping,

Also make sure you have ventilation where you use it,

  • After our first find of the film set in the desert we continued with the theme and tracked down another location,

This Gas station was used in the 2006 film The hills have eyes, and virtually remains untouched, again protected by a guardian (security guard) after a chat he opened it up and allowed us to view inside, complete with a stocked shop,

apparently as it’s on the main road to Agadir and not hidden in the desert it’s often confused as a real gas station,

  • Flashback to 2019 in Morocco on the outskirts of Quarzazate in the desert we found a disused film set, protected by a guardian, after a chat he offered to show us around,

Interesting as it had many different sides and was obviously used for many films, some of which we believe were, Game of Thrones, The Gladiator
and The Mummy,

At the time of the visit it was also planned a new film was due to be filmed and further building was due to start,

This was not near the road or the many sets at the main studios, this was of the beaten track, in the desert,

  • As the sun has been out today I changed plans and decided to start work on the Porsche, to get it ready for summer,

last time I drove it it started to run badly, missing, so I wanted to check the coils and change the plugs, 2 coils have cracks around the screw holes, so I will replace them although I don’t think that would cause issues, and they were the 2, spark plugs looked like they were past their best, so all new now,

Pollen filter and air filter also changed, air filter is under the engine cover, not to difficult,

The only other thing is the battery was flat so charged it, hopefully that will be ok but may need a new one,

  • Our next collection is further takes us to one of the most known and famous forts of all, Fort Central, although there is many other forts and military buildings scattered nearby, these photos are just a few of Fort Central, taken back in 2011,

This area is not included on our Alpine dash tour as is to far south for a short trip, but we do intend to head back with a full military route alpine tour, as soon as possible,

  • Today we are looking at the Alps, the military route that runs close to the Italian/french border, and in these photos the col du Parpillion,
The Parpillion tunnel is at an altitude of 9.120ft and was built by the french army between 1891 and 1901,

The route both sides approaching the tunnel is not paved, personally I think travelling north to south gives amazing views as you exit the tunnel and travel down into the valley, this is a narrow route running down the side of the mountain,

  • Service kit for the Porsche has turned up today,
I have the oil already so when I get a free day and it’s not to cold I have a little job todo,
so it’s ready for the next road trip, when ever that’s possible,
First thing to do is sort the battery out, it’s been stored in our lockup for a few months now and the battery is dead,

  • Flash back to November 2019

In the mountains above Santander we had heard there was an abandoned railway project, comprising of a number of tunnels through the mountains and a station,
In November 2019 as we headed back to catch our ferry it was cancelled due to bad weather, so the opportunity had now arisen to head up in search,

We already had researched it’s location and had a waypoint so finding it was easy,
We didn’t expect it to be in the amazing condition it was, or to be able to drive the railway for so far, the last tunnel is a few miles long and not in the best condition so we turned around at that point,
Definitely it’s a place we will return too,
