The first official high school senior portraits I created were for this amazing human whose birthday it is today. Happy Birthday, Hailey! Thank you for being my first high school senior model. Your session was epic! And still fills me with so much joy to have gotten to create that experience and memories for you. We photographed in two parts with the first part here in Chicago at the jookie studio, and then I got to travel to your beautiful property in Michigan to photograph you in our happy spot: amongst your horses. This is a reminder for high school seniors everywhere that this is STILL YOUR TIME to celebrate your accomplishments, despite the pandemic. We might not be able to photograph in the studio for a while, but it’s the perfect time for outdoor sessions, safely and socially distanced. Whether you’re a 2020 Senior or a 2021 Senior, I’ve been scouting out even more locations around the city, and I’m ready for you. :-) Call the studio at 773-463-5665 or email me at
to get scheduled. #seniors2020 #seniors2021 #seniors #chicagoseniorportraits #chicagoHSseniors #chicagoseniorportraitphotographer
A little over a year ago, this was the scene in Giddings Plaza. jookie had a pop-up photo studio set up next to @cafe_selmarie to help @timelesstoyschicago celebrate their 25th anniversary. It was chilly and rain was in the forecast but it held off for the four hours that we photographed families almost non-stop. People waited 20-30 minutes in line! Funny to say this as an introvert, but I LOVE being part of fun events like this. (Pictured here is my lovely friend @elizabethtuckwell who was helping out that day with her equally lovely daughter, Violette.) The second photo is that same spot today, now showing Cafe Selmarie’s sidewalk “order” window for carry-out. Did you know that Selmarie opened in 1983??? In this same spot. I have enjoyed many a brunch here with loved ones, and I’m a sucker for their apple streusel pie...which I’m enjoying right now as I type this post. jookie is celebrating its 14th anniversary today, May 17th, the day I got my official business license from city hall. I had been working for another studio for five years, and I purposely got my license on the same date that I had started that job. Which means 19 years today as a kid photographer, too. What better way to celebrate my biz today than supporting another woman-owned local business? Who has been here for 37 years??? Before the apple pie, I had a delicious salmon club sandwich with bacon and avocado. They also have a country style meatloaf sandwich as a weekend special and so many other mouth watering options. If you haven’t ordered some pastries, desserts, or yummy meals from them yet, maybe you’ll think of it today when you need to get out of the house for a walk. It’s rainy today, but warm. There are puddles perfect for stomping in, too. Where will we be with this pandemic in a year’s time? So much is uncertain but I do know that we have an incredibly strong business community and we have wonderful neighbors who want to keep supporting it. When May 17, 2021 rolls around, I hope I will be writing a post for jookie’s 15th anniversary. I can’t even imagine what I’ll be writing but I think I’ll know what I’ll be feeling, which is what I feel today (and every day): incredibly grateful.
I love these Friday (Friyay) vibes from @lauradohertymusic. (Tap her tag here to see the video I tried to share.) Get out and enjoy the weather before the rain comes again! (Wear your masks, stay safe!) And catch Laura’s next live-streaming Kids Show starting again next Wednesday. #Repost @lauradohertymusic with @get_repost ・・・ Closing out week 9 of quarantining. I’m a member of the @avillechamber, and I’m grateful to live in this beautiful neighborhood (since 2001), and work here too. I’ve “worked from home” the past 10 years, but now I’m 100% working from home, live-streaming virtual kids concerts from my apartment on Glenwood. I emerged to my front stoop last night, to sing this message to you! “Everything’s gonna be alright”. Catch “Laura’s live Living Room kids Show” streaming weekly on my Laura Doherty Music Facebook page: Wed. 10am, Fri. 12pm, and a weekly “Live at Five” show on Instagram, typically on Mondays, at, you guessed it, 5pm. That’s Central Time Zone, y’all! Stay safe, everyone...we’ll get through this! #andersonville #chicagoyearofmusic
Scouting spots in the ‘hood for my next high school senior session this week! New, gorgeous mask (the collection grows!) created by the talented interior designer (and all around amazing mom) @instannette4.0 of @juneeightstudio. Stay safe, everyone! Wear your mask to protect both yourself and others. #weareallinthistogether #commoncourtesy #highschoolseniorportraits #chicagohighschoolseniorphotographer
Thank you, neighbors! We were able to make a donation today to @thefriendshipcenter for $350 from money raised from Mask Portrait sessions. (Plus, we covered their processing fees, too, which is why it’s a little higher as shown.) I’m hoping to be able to do a few more of these (and take them on location now) but we’ll see what my I can finagle now that I’m officially allowed to photograph “regular” sessions again. (Regular meaning outdoors and socially distanced, most likely at your house/yard or a very low key, low-volume-people park.) Email me at
if you’re interested. In the meantime, keep on keeping on! One day at a time.
More Mask Portraits for the photo fundraiser for @thefriendshipcenter today! Now that professional photographers in Illinois can officially work again as long as it’s safely social distanced outdoors, I’m starting to take the Mask Portraits on location, too (while wearing my own mask). Did one at a nearby house (they were all wearing Hogwarts masks! 😍) and then a couple at a preschool where kindergarteners would have been graduating this spring. (Kindergarten graduates are the CUTEST!! Sorry, HS seniors, it’s just the truth). 😉 I’ll update the Mask Portraits signup page again next week with new dates and times after I get a handle on my new schedule now that I’m booking up with “regular” sessions again (“regular” meaning Socially Distanced Spring/Summer Sessions). On that note, there is still time to get in on the early booking incentive featured in my last post about gift certificates purchased through Fri, May 15th. Leave me a message on the studio landline 773-463-5665 or email
to schedule a phone chat next week. (The studio is closed Sun/Mon.) #photofundraiser #thefriendshipcenter #lincolnsquarephotographer #chicagokids #chicagokidphotographer #kindergartengraduate #maskportraits #chicagofamilyphotographer #sociallydistancedphotoshoot #chicagophotostudio
