I finally went into this fabric store in Alexandria, Virginia and Holy cow!! It's got everything! Horrible name but lots of fabrics, trims, notions, patterns. They have denim, twill, velvet, home decor, leather, quilting cottons, rayon, knits, dressy fabrics, etc. It's not designer fabrics such as cotton and steel etc but more random fabrics. The twill/bottom weights /denim section was huge. Anyway, if you are in this area and haven't been, you need to go!!
Went to joanns to get Ava fabric for her geisha costume (emily will be a samurai) and I was shocked to find the two bottom rayon challis! So pretty! So the top one is rayon challis as well but heavily embroidered and that will be Ava's geisha robe. It's not exactly what I wanted but they had not one single Asian-like brocade. They used to, at least years ago they did, but this location had none.
A new totoro hoodie for Emily (the last photo is the first one from 4 years ago.). I used a plain hoodie from old navy and my silhouette machine. On my blog I have a link to the file but it doesn't work. If you want it just message me your email address and I'll send it to you. I sewed down almost all of the pieces after ironing them on because after awhile it will peel up from the wash.
A sweatshirt for Evilly (supposed to be Emily but auto correct changes it to Evilly) . I printed out a Sean of the Dead picture from Google on Iron-on transfer paper for dark colors (from target) then ironed it to the sweatshirt. Isn't this just the most adorable concept?? Sean of the Dead on little golden books 😍 (I don't know who designed the graphic so I can't credit them).
We made a nerf gun target from a tutorial by @inspirationmadesimple the girls colored the targets with zombies, a butt with...um..poo in it (they just spent a week with two other kids being gross the whole time talking about poo this and butt that) and animals. The total was about $22 for the pipe and glue. We already had the binder clips. I don't think they'll play with it all the time (mostly because they have no kids to play with here) but it was fun making it with them.
He will sit like this for a long time. #seamusomalley #annoyingorange #shmilo #orangefury #catmemes
Working on my #daisychainabcsampler by #posygetscozy on our way to pick up the girls in Smithfield, Virginia. Years ago when embroidery was still grandma-like (2004) I would ride the bus between #robinsonbarracks and #patchbarracks on my way to my favorite job #patchartsandcrafts in Germany and I'd hide my embroidery if anyone sat near me. That's from growing up with no one my age sewing /crafting---didn't want to look old lady-like. Sublime stitching had just come out or was about to and I think that changed the embroidery world.
Throw Back Thursday! #tbt these are all from about 2009. My most favorite Oliver+S pattern the, Swing Set top. Unfortunately it only went to a size 5. I loved this top by itself or over a little tee. Look at those little babies!!!!
When searching for a tutorial on embroidering a strainer I found one by @brydiefrazer (a picture not a tutorial). It's so beautiful!! So here's my trial run at it. Not knowing what I'm doing at all, I have lots of loose threads, missed stitches and wonky stuff going on. But the next one will be so much better! She used dmc tapestry wool where as I used 12 strands of regular embroidery floss. Next time I will use the wool and the pattern she directed me too. Thanks @brydiefrazer 😊
Some #chatbooks I ordered for myself and my siblings of my father's last weeks . Here's just a few of the photos from the book...The 2nd photos are right after I saw him for the first time. He was having a procedure so I was in the room alone when he arrived and when they wheeled him in I thought who's this old man?? They've got the wrong room!. The next set is of me and my siblings together. And the white board where my sister wrote that my dad's preferences are: long walks on the beach, butterflies & daisies and writing I love you in the sand 😭😭. Next is me using snap chat filters on him, then the day we brought him home to die. My brother took him outside and he looked so happy and at piece because he was home. Next is the funeral. Then my brother spreading his ashes. @chatbooks
