“AROUND 1/3 OF NHS EMPLOYED STAFF IDENTIFY AS BEING BME. YET WHY DOES DISCRIMINATION STILL EXIST HERE?” Joined by Dr Vivienne Lyfar-Cissé, Chair of the NHS BME Network amongst our panel of esteemed doctors (to be revealed!), we shall explore this topic and potential root causes. We will delve into many avenues, including the Bawa-Garba case that has sent shockwaves through the medical profession.
Today sees the launch of the Zero Tolerance Campaign at BLSA. We are working towards becoming an institution that is zero tolerant of all types of harassment.
If you thought BLSA Board looked fun, wait till you get a load of Student Council! We had a great turnout from our reps (including a few who missed the photo!) On top of hearing updates and fielding questions to our Executive Officers, we also went through some interesting motions including a motion about improving lighting on the Whitechapel campus and another on ensuring postgrad students had their Wednesday afternoons off! (Minutes will be available soon on the QMSU website) We also formally met our PGT Rep and First Year Rep in the flesh and had a special Skype in from Sophie, our Gozo President. This Friday is the inaugural ‘War of the Wards’ Event, where we will be coming face-to-face with our rivals around the capital to show that Barts and The London is indeed the best in the land! (And of course to meet new people, dance and have a lovely time). This is a great opportunity to meet your counterparts from around London so do be sure to come along! Tickets are very limited so please be sure to buy yours ASAP! This event is open to ALL BL Students regardless of your year or course! We will be leading a group from The Griff Inn & from Dawson Hall (times TBC) if people wish to go as a group. Remember to dress as ‘Barts and The London’ as you can (We're talking black and white, Chequered outfits, maybe even a Griff Inn Costume) - there will be prizes up for grabs! BLSA Board met to go over the issues facing our students and campaigns we have moving into the next few weeks, including improving student feedback, the Union's Zero Tolerance Campaign & improving developing our engagement to reach more BL students.
