Remember this familiar face? Our sweet floppy ear Belafonte has returned to us. He was adopted about a year ago, but his adopted home's situation has recently changed, so they reached out to us to see if we would take him back. Our answer is always of course. He is now back at the shelter and reunited with some of his old friends. He has a home here with us for as long as he needs it. If you have adopted a cat from us and can no longer take care of it, or have another situation where you need to re-home, PLEASE contact us again. 🚨 #NewResidentAlert 🚨 Rusty came to us after he was found straying near Christie Beach. A good samaritan provided him with food until he was able to arrive here. Rusty is a very friendly boy who loves affection. He is currently being treated for an ear infection and kitty cold since he was outdoors. What a difference a few months can make! 😲🕛 this is Bella, about 10 years old, she arrived in October. When she first came to us she was very nervous and unhappy (as you can see from the picture on the left). Since being here she has been spayed, and given socialization. Over this time we have started to gain Bella's trust, and she is really starting to come around and be receptive to pets and human attention. She is not fully there yet, but we have made so much progress since she arrived. She typically now waits for shelter volunteers beside the sink in the morning, and enjoys watching them do the dishes. She seems to be fascinated by the sink and water and her favourite thing is when we turn on the small drinking tap and she can stick her head under and try to attack the small stream of water. What a silly girl. We are working hard to bring out the best in this sweet girl, and are so proud of how far she has come. Left photo is when she arrived in Octover 2018. The 12 Cats of Christmas Day 10 - Amber Amber has been with us a short while now and she is slowly warming up to us and life at the shelter. Amber likes her own space and does not like to be too close to other cats. She would do best in a home where she is the only cat. She can be a bit nervous when you first meet her, and needs time to build up trust with you. But once she does and deems you worthy of a rub against your leg, she is a sweetie. Amber needs a home that will give her the time she needs and patience to become the amazing cat we know she is. Amber came to us declawed. Perhaps this is one of the reasons she can seem so timid at first and does not like being around other cats. You must meet this lovely girl to really get to know her sweet personality. Koda seems to like his own space and does not enjoy having other cats in his space. He would be best suited as the only cat in a home. Even though he may not enjoy other cats that much, he sure does enjoy human contact and interaction. He is a very friendly boy and loves receiving attention and pets, purrs are almost instant with this sweetie. The 12 Cats of Christmas Day 8 - Jerome Jerome is a playful and friendly boy. He is a real sweetheart once he warms up to you and loves attention. He enjoys chomping on your fingers in a friendly way (not to worry, no teeth so just working out his gums!) Such a cute quirk this boy has. He is a calm and laid-back cat who very much enjoys being around other cats and gets along well with them. Jerome has been with us at the shelter for a very long time; when this happens, it often may take the cat a while to get used to their new surroundings once being adopted. They may hide for days, this is normal! It is a big change for them! But given some time to figure out and get adjusted to their new home, and an owner who is patient and puts in the time, we are sure they will thrive. Jerone is so deserving of a life full of love and a home outside of the shelter. The 12 Cats of Christmas Day 7 - Owen Owen is a shy and quiet boy. He mostly keeps to himself and can be nervous around people he isn't used to. He gets along very well with other cats, and would probably appreciate a friend in his new home. It will take some time for him to warm up to you and come out of his shell, but once he does, he is the sweetest boy. Owen would do best in a mature and quiet home, as he tends to find quiet spaces in the shelter to hide when things get too busy or noisy, we can imagine it would be the same way for a new home. The 12 Cats of Christmas Day 6 - Nadia This girl is such a little firecracker; small but mighty accurately describes her. She is an alpha female and holds her own (and then some) with all the other cats in the shelter even though she is the smallest by far. She came to us with her sister Rowena, but we think because of her domineering personality she may be better suited as the only cat in the household. She wants all the attention to herself and can hear a wet food can being opened from a mile away! Like her sister, she is very playful and loves toys, especially strings with feathers. The 12 Cats of Christmas Day 4 - Simba This boy is new around here so we don't have much to say about him other than the fact that he is an absolute lovebug! He came in with his brother Koda as an owner surrender, and has only been at the shelter for about 2 weeks, but he loves to sit in our windows and get pets. He seems to get along well with other cats (again, he came in with his brother Koda so we know he has been in a home with cats before). See our earlier video on Facebook for live action of Simba. He's a happy enough boy, but can't help but feel he is a bit out of sorts in the shelter environment and would do better and thrive in a home environment. The 12 Cats of Christmas Day 3 - Rankin It was hard to find a photo of Rankin by himself, he is a social cat and ALWAYS with and around his kitty friends, as you can see. He gets along well with all our other cats and we think he would enjoy having this social aspect in his new home as well, having at least one other kitty friend for company. This boy is one of our overlooked cats, it seems to be a trend with our black cats unfortunately. Rankin is a friendly boy, he is usually seen greeting you at the front door, and following the volunteers around rubbing up on their legs as he walks by. This boy just begs for attention! He is a calm and laid-back cat, he is an older and more mature boy. As you can see from his pictures, he does have a small sty in his one eye, but this is minor and in no way negatively impacts his daily living. One of our friendliest boys, Panda LOVES to play with all toys (string toys seem to be his very favourite). He is good with other cats and is very social, he would enjoy being in a multi cat household or at least having another kitty companion. Panda is well suited to any type of home.
