Two peas in a (mother fucking) pod waiting on tacos. Plans change, life ain’t perfect and neither are we. But damn, aren’t we lucky?! I love this guy so much. ❤️ one month from today we will be together 19 years. He has made me a better person, that I know for sure.

Good thing I was planning to wash the ikat. #jerk #robertathecat #ikat
Everyone loves John Nuckels. #prettypearlygirly
I have about 5-6 yards of this narrow Japanese ikat. I scored it at a thrift store years ago and made a pair of shorts that were too small and went to my bff. I’m thinking about making a drindl skirt with wooden buttons. #ikat #imakemyownclothes #thriftstorefinds
We made it home. It rained the WHOLE way but we made it safely.
I’m so in love with my avocado dyed yarn. I’m just not sure about wearing it because it matches my skin color. I’m making the #napaneehalter can always overdye but isn’t this mottled pink sweet?! #avocadodye
Such a peaceful place to be on a Sunday evening

I love this place @los_rios_campground
We finally made it to camp wood @los_rios_campground
I love this hand embroidered blouse that I bought in Tulum last summer.
Second day hair. I discovered As I Am conditioning wash and it works! Ready for my long weekend in the most beautiful part of Texas.
This is the bottom half of an ikat two piece that I made earlier in the summer. I need to add a hook below the waistband and take a proper photo and actually wear it because it’s awesome, and totally my style. . . I was thinking about why 70s fashion is so inspirational to me. If the 70s were all about excess, glamour and over adornment and I am not, then why do I find the era so interesting? I think because the 70s were such a great time of creativity in my own household via my parents. The 70s fashions that I am attracted to are the sewing patterns, not the runway or what celebrities wore. My mom would have made and worn many of them and her style was influential to me. I just can’t get enough of 70s sewing patterns. I have the opportunity to make them from natural fibers and a muted, personalized color palette. My mom has always been a fiber artist and I never remember having polyester in our closest. I was a fiber snob from early on. Back then our clothes would have been cotton but now I have access to silk, linen, rayon and hemp. The arts and crafts movement of the 70s had a major impact on my psyche, aesthetics, life choices, upbringing and beliefs. So that’s why the 70s are so inspirational to me. . . #memadeeveryday #ikat #wardrobearchitect #ashleyakersblog #imadethis #sewcialist #vintagesewingpatterns #handmadewardrobe
Wardrobe architect week 3. Gather 15-20 images that represent the words that describe your core style. . . My words were: MINIMAL, ARTISTIC, EFFORTLESS, INSPIRED BY: 70s FASHION, NATURE AND GLOBAL TEXTILES . . My images are collected here on Pinterest if your interested: https://pin.it/rfvkjbniqwl3sn . . I don’t own the vogue pattern (9509) yet but I sure do like it. #wardrobearchitect #voguepatterns #vogue9509
Haven’t been feeling very well the last couple of days but I am feeling my hair! I literally never like my hair and feel like I can’t ever style it properly, especially when it’s long. I’m trying out the whole #nopoomethod and seeing good results, that’s no shampoo FYI. I want to keep my length because I love wearing my hair in braids so I’m hopeful that I’m finally learning how to deal with my fine hair after 42 years.
Wardrobe Architect week 2 . . If you had to narrow the list down to 3-5 words to describe your core style which would you chose? . . ARTISTIC, MINIMAL, EFORTLESS . INSPIRED BY: NATURE 70s FASHION GLOBAL TEXTILES . . Ok I know that was more than 5 but there you go. The series also asks for you to collect 15-20 images that represent these words. Though I have a million images saved on Pinterest I haven’t curated a list for just these select words. I asked my mom how she would describe the aesthetic that I liked based on my Pinterest board. She said “70s arty hippy chic/ boho” sounds about right. . . In other news this indigo dyed Jessica dress aka the perfect summer dress just jumped to the top of my “to blog” list. Wardrobe Architect week 2. . . Are there other words you would like to add to this list? What other words describe your core style? . . MODERN...MINIMAL...GLOBAL...INTENTIONAL...THOUGHTFUL...WANDERLUST...MUTED...SUBTLE...RESTRAINED...UNDERSTATED...UNFUSSY . . I looked over my words from yesterday and today and grouped them together because many overlap. . . ECLECTIC/TRAVEL/MULTICULTURAL/GLOBAL/WANDERLUST: referring to my admiration for other cultures and their handcrafts. My desire to travel and see more of the world and my daydreams of adventures. I also love the way I dress when I travel. For example I only wear hats then. Would love to wear them in daily life but I feel silly. It’s like I have an alternate travel personality and I want that girl around more! I mostly see these descriptions playing out in my fabric choices. . HAND CRAFTED/HAND DYED/ARTISTIC/CREATIVE: of course a handmade wardrobe is hand crafted. What I want to incorporate are more aspects of my history and the tradition of handcraft in my family. For example: hand dyeing my fabrics, embroidered embellishments and handmade accessories. . CASUAL/COMFORT/EASE/EFFORTLESS: being physically comfortable is important to me but I also want to project an image of ease. Though clearly much thought and effort are going into my wardrobe I want to be casually cool, effortlessly sexy, etc . MODERN/MINIMAL/MUTED/SIMPLE/SUBTLE/RESTRAINED/UNDERSTATED/UNFUSSY: some of these overlap with the above. I am not anti-adornment but I like my prints and accessories in moderation. These words also describe my preference for simple silhouettes. . INTENTIONAL/THOUGHTFUL: these could go hand in hand with the above and also with artistic. Clearly my wardrobe is becoming more intentional and I think that’s the whole reason I’m doing this project. . NATURAL: I’m a nature girl, inspired by the landscape, plants, water. I didn’t really talk much about this last week but when I travel I seek out nature. I prefer a color palette inspired by the earth. . I’m wearing a top that my mom made in the 70s (?) @connie.akers I cropped it and finally have truly high waisted pants to pair it with. Sadly I didn’t make the pants but I......
Wardrobe architect week 2 . . Look over your answers from last week on history, philosophy, culture, community, activities, location and body. List at least 15 words that you associate with your answers. Think about descriptive words, moods and feelings you associate with these. . .
